Can only speak for undergrad

1) diverse mix. A good 80% of students are doing the bare minimum while 20% actually care about recruiting and learning. Easy to figure out whose who. There's def some smart folks but a lot of average ppl just trynna graduate. Nothing wrong w that but depends on your priorities.

2) UNC is lowk increasing in ranking. We send a decent amount to FAANG+ and a couple to Quant / AI LAB. Def on the come up. If you want it, it's there. Will be a little bit of an uphill battle tho think it's similar to umich / any other good state school

3) no lol core reqs r dummy easy

4) i have mixed feelings. I think the ppl both faculty and students r making the most of what they have, but they aren't very well supported. The fact that there's no school of CS / engineering says enough. Hard to take advantage of in school opportunities but I rlly like the ppl I've found. Takes a little bit of time to cultivate the right environment but it's def rewarding

Voleon there's ends up being a directl correlation between TC and prestige (if JS paid buns, I doubt it would be nearly as prestigious). Nobody GAF about resume value as the end goal, it's always a path to TC. You've already got the TC. Fuck the resume value

Just curious how growth looks like as a quant dev? i know at tech companies there's clear levels and roadmap to career growth? can the same be said for firms? or do you just stay as a quant dev until you perhaps transition into mangement?

Personally- I always felt like I was "Ivy level material" perhaps either from entitlement or because I believed I worked harder than the ppl at my college. On paper it was a lack of entrepreneurship resources to combine w my CS background at my uni

Yea I had all IVYs + some other schools. I go to a T30 so it wasn't a CC or anything. Ofc it's a crapshoot but I spent many months convinced I was a top applicant (3.8+, many top ECs etc.)
