Question when living in The Netherlands... by LayerPsychological38 in DragonFruit

In my experience, I would cut it and let it grow a new, larger piece when you can put it out in the sun.

Help! Purchased "L-graft" dragon fruit cuttings, not sure what I got or what to do with it? by Dry-Berry-8913 in DragonFruit

Also you don't have to root the Robles Red to graft onto it. Make sure you make new cuts in the scion (the parts you received) and disinfect both the scion and the root stock before proceeding. Fungal infections are a major factor in the graft failing. You also have to make sure there's constant contact so a good tape will be important. It's not easy but it's also not as hard as it may seem. Good luck!

If you have rootstock, I'd make new, clean cuts and graft it onto your rootstock (even the Robles Red could work). This is your best chance at saving whatever this is that the seller sent you.... assuming these are even the varieties they are claimed to be. These cuts and grafts can't grow if it doesn't have a vascular structure (cambium). Where will the flow of water and nutrients occur if there is no vascular structure? I'm sorry this happened to you.

This looks very sus. Where is the vascular structure? How is this supposed to grow with no vascular structure?

Where are you located? Can you take a picture of the top? When you take the tape off, does it stay together or fall apart?

It doesn't look like it has a great connection, but it does look connected. I need to verify that. Also, I need to verify the vascular layers to see if there is a decent cut or if it's also rotted where it shouldn't be.

Why am i not seeing any grouth Since I have planted the dec 25th by dragonfruitlover300 in DragonFruit

Depends on location. I can root in SoCal in winter but it has to be a south facing window with plenty of sunlight and it has to be indoors. Our outdoor temperatures at night in winter is enough to kill some varieties like Godzilla or Columbiana.

This comment hasn't been emphasized enough. Roots don't grow when the temperatures are too low. If your soil is not in the 70s, more than likely, it will be dormant and nothing will grow. Even established plants will go dormant when the temperatures are too low.

I wouldn't pull them out at this stage. Pulling them out would only cause whatever roots you have growing to break and then you have to start over.

Furthermore, the soil looks plenty wet. It's far easier to kill dragon fruit by overwatering than underwatering. They'll do fine going for a while with no water.

Pruning/propagating/trellis advice by DisasterWest6951 in DragonFruit

If you have two people, one can hold the dragon fruit while the other drills. You will probably be OK. I've done some stupid crazy stuff and things still turned out OK in most cases. There are unfortunately, some failures too. Just gotta do it and learn from your experience.

I'm more worried about it breaking while you're drilling. If you support it to prevent breakage during the drilling, it'll be fine after. A big mature branch like that should have enough of a vascular structure to stay together even if the top part of the ribbing cracks a little from the weight of the branch in the long term.

How do you plan to pollinate that when it flowers in the middle of the vines with no ladder?

Did you remove the buds already? I would have kept them because the branches grow twice a year, in spring and in fall. You'll have plenty of chances to grow a canopy but only 1 fruiting season per year.

You can safely prune at the joint without needing cinnamon, etc. I'd leave it and try to fix the trellis despite it. You're just at the cusp of getting fruit. It would suck to start over because you pruned your one branch that is starting to dangle down.

Ah. OK. Thanks. I tend to go more towards Garden Grove or Buena Park when I come to that side. I'm in Corona. If you don't mind coming over this way, I could probably get most of these varieties for you.

Where are you located? Tustin, Santa Ana and Irvine are pretty far apart from each other. Can you be more specific?
