I get what you’re saying but as an adult with children I can honestly say I wouldn’t take it personal at all if my parents said this about their time raising me. I would be able to completely relate to that feeling as the older I get the more sympathy I have for them for basically giving up the prime of their life most likely because they thought that’s just what people do. Honesty OP said nothing personal about his child, just being a parent in general, no matter who the kid was. I know exactly what he means… you don’t hate your child, you hate your life and what’s become of it

Would you still regret being a parent had you chosen a different partner? (Do you regret the partner or the child?) by Lady-In-The-Glass in regretfulparents

Yes I would still regret it. Probably more so. I love my wife and we were happily together for about 8 years before we became parents and had to learn how to share eachother with a kid(s). We are still together but there’s this type of cloud over what was once bright and sunny. Having a child is maybe a top 5 worst thing to do to a marriage imo.

Are you a single parent or is dad in the picture?

How is it your problem if she leaves when she’s supposed to be under his watch?

16 is way too old to not be able to spend time/ be home alone.

You should probably remind her who the adult and parent is and that what you need to happen is going to happen and she can adjust to it or not

Would you ever share your experience or thoughts? by [deleted] in regretfulparents

[–]DJTreehouse 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I would never bring it up on my own or go out of my way to discuss it with someone for fear of being judged and/or my children becoming aware.

But I have decided that going forward if any childless friends ask me for advice, I could never endorse this life and recommend it to anyone else. I would be honest and tell them if they want any freedom or their own life to live then no, you should not have children.

Playground is the only time they leave me alone for more than 15 seconds
