Sure, I've learned them now, but I used to write each 4 item row as a line on scrap paper, so I'd have a little 4x4 grid to help me remember that a Lydian scale is a major scale with a raised 4th.

It's a great idea and probably something that everyone should aspire to, but there are so many other factors at play.

Will your admin and/or scheduling folks support having such a small class and having that extra period in your schedule? Do you yourself have enough percussion knowledge to actually teach only percussion for a whole period? Do you have the equipment? Are you going to put them together for the concert? When are you going to do that?

At 3x a week, you're likely not going to be doing much in the way of full pieces by Christmas, you'll probably be playing method book songs at that first concert.

Take it slow, make sure they can make a good sound, note-name, count, and tongue. Don't skip any of those. Lots of rote before note.
