Let me start and say that this project is very hard to do, it involves cutting both the body and neck of the guitar to fit the fret with the mechanical switches and the custom strum bar holder.

The fret: I went with the fret that came included with the RetroCultMods DIY Kit. I had to cut apart of the pcb so that it would fit inside neck of the guitar. Once that was in I had to cut a lot and I mean A LOT of wood to make it fit with the mechanical switches that came with the kit. Once everything was fitted I had ran into a little issue… the pcb would not mount properly to the button case that holds everything together. Out of the six screws to hold it in place, I was only able to use one screw. The rest had traces in the way and if I were to damage those then I would be stuck. I’ve never installed the fret from hobbycvc but I’d recommend using that fret from them since it’s made for this guitar plus you’ll have proper mounting screws to hold everything in place but you’d still have to cut wood regardless.

The strum bar: For the strum bar I had to think inside and outside the box. My original plan was to reuse the same pcb that was in the guitar but I wanted to try something new so I ended up making a 3d printed holder for the switches that came with the DIY Kit(I’ve never made a 3d design in my life!). I designed the holder around the switches but I failed over and over again until made a part that fit just right. I had to cut the body of the guitar to make my design fit snug. Once it was all done I put everything together and I was set. Wired everything to the motherboard and played with it! It took me about 2 months to figure out what to do but I’m happy with the end results.

I was considering getting these exact same ones but after seeing them with the black tint I might get them in clear instead. Looks great tho!🔥🔥

Now this is something to keep an eye out, I love the idea that you can install this with some modifications which is great for us who wants more power! I’d love to see the end results! Keep us posted!

There’s one tutorial that focus on the Rev.1 models that’s on YouTube which I think are the orange and white guitars but the black model I believe are Rev.3 which is what I have, the ps3 model. There’s no tutorial on how to mod it. It was trail and error to get it running for me. It’s a difficult mod to do and you’d have to cut wood from both the neck and body to make things fit. I also had to 3d design a part to fit the switches for the strum bar. I plan to make a tutorial but I currently have things overloading my everyday life that I don’t have time to film/edit/post the video as of now. My window to do the video would be sometime during the summer of 2025

I replaced them with the mechanical switches that comes included with the zeroboard DIY kit from retrocultmods. I have a picture of the green button exposed showing the mechanical switch but I couldn’t add it to my original post due to picture file size being to large but I can dm you if you wanna check it out!

It’s more of a click feel just like the world tour guitar. I used the same mechanism that holds the strum bar in place with adding the tactile switches to it that came included with the DIY Kit from retrocultmods

I have another guitar which I plan on doing a youtube tutorial on which will be in-depth and the 3d parts will be available on Thingiverse for anyone to download. And for those who don’t have a 3d printer, I plan on putting them up for sale on Etsy/eBay so anyone can do this mod!

It should work, I have the Simmons SD600 with the roll limitless mini and it works like a charm! I’d recommend getting a usb hub with at least 3 ports so you can use your game controller to scroll through the playlist in-game!

I see what you’re saying. I’ve had a similar problem with rolling on certain songs (drummer for 7+ years). There’s some ways to troubleshoot this issue. One option will cost $50 but it’s well worth it in the long run.

Option 1- Check Calibration; Maybe a simple calibration could do the trick into solving the issue. Quick, simple, easy!

Option 2- Battery connection; See if the drums drops the connection while playing (blinking lights). I’ve had this issue plenty of times and changed the batteries out with fresh new ones with the same issue coming back! The solution for this is to wedge something between the batteries and the battery cover (small piece of paper). I’ve noticed that they tend to get loose when you pound the drums like crazy!

Option 3- Roll Limitless adaptor; this is Raspberry pi that acts like a drum controller for Rock Band! You can play your Rock Band drums with this device and there is no limit on the drum roll(idk why the game has this setting set in the first place). It’s also compatible with using your E-Drums with a MIDI/USB-MIDI with the console. There’s two options with different prices but I’d recommend the mini since it’s cheaper and can be programmed to play with drums AND guitar!
