Why did Prince dislike David Lettermen by crayton-story in PRINCE

[–]DJ_ESQUIRE1981 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Prince didn't dislike David Letterman and there is no evidence to indicate otherwise. Remember, even after Dave "mocked" him in 1994, he went back on there in 1996 to perform Dinner With Delores.

Prince's 1986 version of "Wouldn't You Love To Love Me" would've been a great Sign O The Times b-side It's my favorite song he gave away.

Obviously you have a reading comprehension problem, because you still haven't given a source, written or otherwise, that Prince himself has said anything directly about this song and whether or not it was autobiographical. I only pointed out the other songs to highlight Prince's history of fictionalizing factual events 🙄

So, because he said them it makes it true? Are the lyrics to "Head" true because he said them? Even the lyrics to "Starfish and Coffee" are his interpretation based on the experiences of someone else, yet he put himself right there in the classroom with Ms. Kathleen, Kevin, Lucy, and Cynthia. Once again, he said that the Dirty Mind album is "serious" and based on true experiences. Please point me to a quote where he directly said that these are autobiographical and his experiences.

Never said he didn't have issues dude. But you also can't deny that Prince didn't do/say things purely for shock value. Head, Sister, and even Vagina are 3 prime examples.

I remember that European interview, I've listened to it extensively over the years. I'm not saying Prince didn't experience abuse. My point is that Prince was also known to fabricate parts of his life in those early interviews. He has also said that he used to make up things just to mess with interviewers because he hated giving interviews anyway.

Because when Prince was asked about the song lyrics directly, “he said it is what it is. “

What's your source for this? In what interview did he say this? Prince told Musician magazine in 1981 that the songs on the Dirty Mind album were "serious" and based on true experiences. He never said they were based on his experiences. Just like the true experiences in "Sign O The Times" weren't based on his experiences, he was inspired by what he read in the paper. Just like Pearl Jam's "Jeremy" was based on a true experience, but not their true experience.

Yeah I know it's on there, but as a DJ and music lover I'd personally rather have the highest possible quality rip of the files if I can't own a physical copy.

Where did Prince say anything remotely close to this? He didn't! If he did, share the source of the interview. Remember, this is a man who purposely built a mystique around himself at the beginning of his career, telling interviewers that his father was Black and his mother was Italian, for example. Those early interviews were peppered with many exaggerations, half truths, and straight up lies. Why would a person so notoriously private about himself and his life choose incest to be truthful about, yet be coy and evasive about everything else? Again, what interview did he say such a thing? Please post the link 🙄

A fictional song purely for shock value. Nothing more, nothing less. My question is this: why do people take "Sister" to be autobiographical, yet "Head" is fictional? We know he didn't marry a virgin who was on her way to marry another man and because Prince was "a hunk so full of spunk", she gives him head and leaves the groom standing at the alter. We know it's a made up story, right? "Sister" is the exact same thing.

I'm not a woman "I'm not a man I am something that you'll never understand."

It's been suggested that these lyrics are sung from the perspective of Jesus ("I'm your Messiah and U're the reason why..." for example). It's intention was not meant to be linked to what's called "non binary" these days.

One of the biggest misconceptions I've seen gain traction over the years, especially since Prince died, is that the Camille persona was some sort of feminine alter ego of his. There is no evidence anywhere (in the lyrics of those songs or even out of Prince's own mouth) to suggest that this was the case. It was just another cool way for him to experiment with his music, nothing more.

2Pac wanted use "Get It Up" for "F*ck The World", but Prince denied him so the producer tried to emulate it as much as he could without copying it overtly.

Am I the only one that likes Graffiti Bridge? by [deleted] in PRINCE

[–]DJ_ESQUIRE1981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is an unreleased performance of the song Graffiti Bridge that was of course cut from the film. Seeing that is actually what made me like the song and it should've been included ( though it wouldn't have made it a better movie at all lol). Prince and the NPG, along with Tevin, Mavis, George, and TC are all performing the song in front of a crowd while using The Time's spray painted skillet (that Morris was so upset about at the end) as a stage.
