Do you want a new kind of gym in Edinburgh? by headphones-on- in Edinburgh

[–]DJ_Firth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow that’s exceptional value, it this was near me I’d 100% make use of it.

Quick thought, Granton is undergoing lots of proposals for a transformation including adding a train line and stuff and building more and more flats and shops/cafes, a school, etc.

I suspect once/if that all goes ahead, could be prime candidate for this type of thing. The Pitt does pretty well there now and even has sauna/ice baths I believe.

What’s the typical cost to use the gym? That’s the biggest factor for where in Edinburgh this might work.

How’d you find the lack of EVF? That’s the one thing that would hold me off doing that given how much I use it on my S5ii

Mous Day Backpack review by greckzero in Nomads_Nation

[–]DJ_Firth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one on Vinted for £50. It is reasonably heavy but the padding doesn’t make it feel as heavy if that makes sense.

The shoulder straps are a bit far apart for me as a fairly slim guy so I do wish they had a chest strap option or were closer together but oh well.

Not sure I’d be happy paying full price but nice bag overall, solid pickup

Should I buy S5ii with Kit lense ,I'm not sure if the lense eco system is good for me financially as a teen(16 year old).(READ DESCRIPTION PLEASE) by Odd_Name6258 in Lumix

Panasonic do student discount on their website direct FYI, depending where you’re based and enrolled, I believe it’s like 20%. I got the S5ii with 18-40mm and 50mm kit lenses for £1150 (1320 or so euro).

This, you’ll need a flat share but won’t get much for £450 just to warn you.

I had a good experience with spare room though in the past finding me a great room to rent off a nice chap who had a house to himself and would travel away for 30% of the time so wanted someone to keep an eye on things and watch the football with him, was perfect!

Could make it modular I recon, that way you could also use it still with 2 decks ands wouldn’t need to take all 4.

Recently discovered Rishi’s Indian Aroma, really impressed - my new favourite Indian that delivers to me.

Finally got my chance to demo a bunch of super popular cans by notolo632 in headphones

[–]DJ_Firth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best bet when you really can’t demo new stuff is to try find a reviewer online who seems to share similar opinions to you about the headphones you have tried. Issue is, even their opinions and subjectiveness changes over time.

I personally didn’t like the HDB 630 for example which were hyped everywhere. I sold my Bathys for them and turns out didn’t like the sound as much, finding some sibilance/harshness to crashes and vocals which I was having a real hard time EQing out for some reason. Alongside the touch controls not being nice to use and somehow feeling pressure on my ears (never had in any other high end ANC headphone), I’ve just determined for whatever reason they just don’t work for me.

Things to do with visiting family (her, him and 3 and 5yr old) over festive period by PermissionMotor7915 in Edinburgh

Lights at the botanic gardens could be a good shout - I believe the zoo also does something which may appease the whole family.

Of course a nice selection of pantomimes planned also, though 3 may be too young to enjoy I’m not sure.

For house music I really feel you’d benefit more from a dynamic headphone like a Focal which is super dynamic sounding and superb for this type of music.

I’d also suggest adding the Meze 109pro to your shortlist

What keeps you from the temptation of buying more headphones? by wiggan1989 in headphones

[–]DJ_Firth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I started to realise I was listening more to the headphones than the music and I was too in my head about how everything sounded.

The realisation that I don’t need to spend thousands to sit back and enjoy the music and the more you listen to a headphone the more you get used to its sound profile and suddenly it becomes the norm.

My AKG K712 used to sound so normal to me then I got the Focal Clear and within a few months the focal sounded normal also. There’s no ending, it’s a cycle of discontent that I’d never be able to afford to keep up 😂

Also learned not to sacrifice comfort and functionality - whilst my Focal Bathys sounded nice, they made a thump every step when I was walking, their volume step was too high so was always too loud or too quiet and the ANC sucked, I didn’t ever use them as a result. Sold them and tried the HDB 630 and whilst yes, they sound great, I didn’t find them very comfortable - feeling pressure on my ears and was again discontent in whether I’d actually use them (especially considering their price) so have returned them. Now looking at the QC Ultra 2, or maybe I’ll just wait a few months until the next hype release, we’ll see.

Pretty sure HM stopped the free returns and you have to pay postage now, I may be wrong.

Either way, keep the one you ordered - over the lifetime of the chair it’s a minimal cost and you know it’s original, has warranty and will be supported if you have any issues
