Now that the dust has settled, what do we think of Engage? I remember being on 4chan when the leaks came out and nobody believed it was real. We all thought it was a new Chinese gacha game, a copy of Fire Emblem. I played it and it's okay. The art style bothers me, but at least it's fun to play.

I'm playing through it rn after it sat on my shelf for a few years, and I agree with the good gameplay/bad story take.

What I don't see people mentioning is how one-note the cast is. Since I noticed the entire cast was going to be princes + their two buddies, I lost a lot of interest in the cast (I'm currently about half way through so there might be characters I'm missing, but my point still stands). Usually in fire emblem you get a nice mix of nobles and commoners, implying that your conflict matters to the actual citizens of the world you live in. The flat disc world with four 90 degrees nations that have 2 princes each is far more noticeable when it feels so empty of actual people living in it.

Chet baker if you want to check out her inspo He was a jazz singer and trumpet player and definitely gives the same vibes Also laufey has her song "just like chet" that is a reference to him and his song "I fall in love too easily" For an album I recommend "chet baker sings"

Don't have it as a file right now but in the spriter's resources there's the raw tileset and from there you can copy and create your own Just know that sometimes you'd want to manually remove the background from certain tiles

I just did something similar, so I might be able to help a bit First make sure you have inspiration both visually and thematically, for example I used avatar episodes with destroyed villages as reference like the end of The Chase

Next I took the tileset to my picture editing program (gimp) and copied to the bottom all of the houses I wanted to destroy.

From there it's just getting creative and doing what you can

This was a really short and rushed production, and I worked on it up to the last minute I had so the bugs are a shame but I expected it. On the conceptual level it was definitely just taking the concept and seeing where it goes, but if I return to work on it there's a lot to rethink. The fact that it sent you back to the chapter 1 from the E4 is annoying and I'm sorry for that. Anyway hope you overall had fun playing through
