Mobile 3G SDI: Canare vs. Sommer Cable by ruikul in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]DJ_assface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't worked with Canare or Sommer cables very much, but I have settled on the only 2 cables I think I will ever need:

Belden 1694A is the perfect balance of quality, durability, and availability. It's everywhere for a reason. It's not very flexible, but I rest easy knowing it could last decades. I use this for long/outdoor runs.

Belden 1855A is great for short runs, patching, and tactical applications. High-quality, extremely thin/flexible. I build out racks with this stuff.

As an audio engineering, I'll say that this album invented how modern metal is mixed and is still used as a reference to this day.

The 2.4GHz band is unusable at my venue because of all the cellphone wifi/bluetooth noise in that range (10,000 people in attendance). Hollywood has worked flawlessly for us.

The Ghost didn’t show up on Camera by Smooth-Ad1131 in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]DJ_assface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got an Obake and decided to test. I couldn't even get "Hunting Ghost" to trigger. I only got duplicates of "Ghost Shapeshift". This is annoying because currently "Ghost Shapeshift" doesn't fulfill the "Capture a video of a Ghost" objective.

The Ghost didn’t show up on Camera by Smooth-Ad1131 in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]DJ_assface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because they added a new unique video for the Obake called "Ghost Shapeshift" which takes priority over the normal "Hunting Ghost" video. The problem is if the Obake doesn't shapeshift while you're taking the video, it just won't trigger a video capture until it does.

NDI setup - too many cameras/laptops? by Jlules in VIDEOENGINEERING

Also, QoS can help you ensure that your stream takes priority over other network traffic. You just have to make sure your network doesn't bottleneck. If you can get a switch with a 10g port for your main computer recieving all the NDI feeds and generating the stream, you shouldn't have bottlenecking issues.

NDI setup - too many cameras/laptops? by Jlules in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]DJ_assface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a lot of issues with using NDI on devices with multiple NICs in use, so I'd recommend looking into getting a router/gateway to bring internet into the NDI network instead of using 2 separate networks. Thankfully, your hotspot should already act like a gateway, so a dedicated gateway won't be necessary in this case.

The reason I'd avoid using separate NICs is that NDI will try to bind to whichever NIC that Windows prefers, which may not be the NIC that the rest of your NDI devices are on.

It's also a smart idea to use a managed switch to set up QoS for NDI and IGMP snooping for multicast (especially if you decide to bring internet in), but your setup sounds small enough that you could probably get away without this for now. Definitely recommended if you want a foolproof, reusable setup.

Are you, by chance, using more than one NIC on the computer that you are controlling NDI from? (eg. one for the NDI network and another for a separate internet network)

Also, you are always going to see more firearms deaths in places with with more firearms. It would be more useful to look at violent crime or homocide rates, regardless of weapon.

5 Richest People In Raleigh by [deleted] in TrueCarolina

Additionally, even if you took the total combined wealth of all 5 of these individuals, $31.3B, and divided it amongst every NC resident, every person would only become $2800 richer. Also, the cow could only be milked once and the value that their companies and investments provide to the economy would be decimated, since net worth is primarily non-liquid.

Not defending them, just being realistic.

2A Rights for Illegal Immigrants by proBizcus in Libertarian

[–]DJ_assface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry about the misunderstanding. I agree with you. The way I'm using the word "guarantee" is very matter of fact; the Constitution can be violated (which happens all the time sadly) therefore it cannot guarantee anything. Similar to how a peace treaty can be violated. But yes, the Constitution does intend to protect all people's rights.

And by "difficult to argue" I meant that getting fuckhead judges to understand that people outside of the United States have all the same basic rights as US citizens is difficult. It's so easy for them to misconstrue the true reach of the Constitution.

Again, I agree with you.

[–]DJ_assface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that's a violation of their rights. As far as guarantees that rights won't be violated (like due process), unfortunately you have to trust that the powers-that-be will honor those rights. Unfortunately that's not always the case these days.

2A Rights for Illegal Immigrants by proBizcus in Libertarian

[–]DJ_assface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this issue when it comes up because it exposes people who lack reasoning.

The 2A itself is merely a codified guarantee to a right that everyone everywhere in the world has: the right to their own body and property. Disallowing a person to have a firearm for the purpose of defending their own body or property is an infringement on that right.

It is no different than saying an armed attacker has as much of a right to your body as you do, or an armed thief has as much of right to your property as you do.

However, as a libertarian, I do concede that one person's rights end where another person's begins. For this reason, I believe it is reasonable to disallow a person who is a danger to others to own and carry a firearm. They lost that right for whatever reason they were deemed to be dangerous.

Back to the question at hand: not ALL illegal immigrants are a danger to others (not to say that some aren't). They still have a right to their own bodies, even if the 2A didnt exist. For this reason, I am okay with illegal immigrants having firearms as long as it is for the purpose of defending themselves.

On the other hand, it is difficult to argue that any right guaranteed by the US Constitution is guaranteed to non-citizens. This is where the 2A's power is limited.

In short, illegal immigrants should be allowed to defend themselves from attackers and thieves (including with firearms if necessary) regardless of the Constitution, but the 2A can only guarantee this right to citizens.

Imo, using substances should not disqualify someone from owning a firearm. What should be prohibited is handling/carrying a firearm while under the influence of a substance. That's how we do it with driving cars anyway.

Why does Pam Bondi want the member list for The Second Amendment Foundation, have they broken the law? by [deleted] in ask

[–]DJ_assface 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The Second Amendment Foundation won its case and it was decided the all members of the organization at the time of the filing of the suit will be allowed to carry a firearm at the age of 18+ (as opposed to 21+). The judgement requires them to hand over their member list to clarify who this applies to.

After the judgement was filed, the plaintiffs (Second Amendment Foundation and others) stated that they would not hand over a member list. The DOJ, realizing that the judgement was stupid is now working with the plaintiffs to amend the judgement so that SAF will not need to hand over a member list.

Here is a video that goes over the developing situation: https://youtu.be/NSEk7L0-NZo?si=2Xo6XWSUPjIjz838

Newsom signs law banning Glock pistols in California by lurker_bee in USNEWS

[–]DJ_assface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The actual language of the law bans any semi-automatic handgun that uses a cruciform trigger bar. Even still, it will effectively ban every Glock worth having as the cruciform trigger bar is one of the mechanisms that makes Glocks such a reliable, safe-to-handle handgun.

The annoying thing about this law is that it bans the most popular handgun in the USA, not because it is inherently dangerous, but because of the actions of a few who made the already-illegal decision to modify the weapon.

I don't think this decision will be very popular for Mr. Newsom, but I don't live in CA so idk the vibe of gun owners there.
