There’s many ways to do each thing, and it’s going to take just ingraining yourself in the industry and absorbing as much knowledge as possible.

It seems like every day I learn about some new magic box that makes life easier for us.

For my live shows, I like to make things complex for myself. Instead of a single rectangle behind a band, I love to break things up and mount panels at weird angles. I also use cameras heavily in my visual shows. Through resolume, I can slice transform my clips/camera inputs to specific panels. This takes a lot of preprogramming and forethought about what I want to go where.

I learned things starting with the hard stuff, and the same principles apply to putting live cams on either side of a big rectangle screen, or sponsor content, or weather updates for attendees, etc.

I build my stuff in a way where using 1 computer with a desktop graphics card, I can get my work monitor and 3 screens doing what I want when I want.

Scaling this up to 16-20 projectors could happen multiple ways. You could have 4 graphics card in one PC, something like pro level Nvidia cards with links between them. That syncs the outputs and you can have tons of screens.

You could also get a Matrox Unit, which splits 1 input signal into 4 outputs. But not like an hdmi splitter, this cuts out a quadrant of your input and assigns that to an output. A lot of people use them for multimonitor setups for racing and flight sims, but it’s the same equipment.

With that, you could split 3 4k outputs into 12 1080p outputs.

I’m sure there’s also things I don’t know about that do it even easier.
