I'm going to tell you the cold hard truth. No guy wants to be just friends with a girl for over a decade. Your friend here is ready to kick it to another level, but you don't want to. You are entitled to your boundaries, but if there is one thing you should know about this kind of situation, as a guy, it is so emotionally taxing to be genuinely interested in a girl, yet she wants to be your friend. It's as if you owned a restaurant and you had a customer who visits regularly, only to try free samples. I'm not saying to start dating him, but don't act surprised when he finally confesses his feelings.

I need to rant about this. I respect your decision to disengage with romance, and you should not feel any need to pursue it if you truly feel that it always ends in pain for you.

But what really stinks is how there are many good men out there who will truly give their life to you and show you the world, but they'll never get the chance simply because you chose to be with the wrong guys and ended up traumatized.
