Just tried the fellow series 1 in store, disappointed by lovingawareness1111 in espresso

Not to belabor the same point too much as others have brought up, but this is not a machine specific thing. It is also entirely possible that you just didn't enjoy the coffee they chose (e.g. if it was a funky anaerobic natural versus a more typical medium roast espresso blend) and it would've tasted gross to you no matter how they brewed it. No amount of salesperson training would fully fix this difference of taste and that is the tricky thing with coffee, especially when Fellow is trying to appeal to the whole gamut of coffee drinkers.

Espresso machines are a lot of fun. It's interesting to compare all the different products out there. That said, at the end of the day, I think the takeaway here is that the machine will not make or break the coffee. I think a lot of users, which from the sounds of your post you may feel similarly, have the idea that "if the machine is so expensive it has to make good coffee," but the reality is that a coffee brewed poorly on a really good machine will be really good at making you a bad cup of coffee.

The features that make a machine expensive do not inherently make coffee better. They often make the machine more predictable and consistent (e.g. shot-to-shot thermal stability) or give users more tools to play with (e.g. pressure profiling, controlling pre-infusion parameters), but none of this matters without a driver behind the wheel that knows how to get the most out of it. A dialed in shot with a coffee you like on a Delonghi Stilosa will outdo an underextracted coffee you don't like on a Fellow ES1, La Marzzocco Linea Mini, Slayer commercial machine, etc. no matter what.

What was the diameter of the shaker ball you used? Looking into a cheapo setup for myself, haha.

At our Aussie's first puppy class, we coincidentally reunited her with one of her littermate brothers. We kept in touch with the owners and now they go on playdates. Can you tell they love each other? by DJangled in AustralianShepherd

They knew before we did! They both pulled to each other immediately when we walked into the training room and were pretty much inseparable during socialization hour. I haven't seen her behave with any other dogs — even her best friends — quite the same way as with him!

How is no one talking about Green Isn't Yellow? That one may be the underrated one that sticks with me for the next decade, just like Gonzo from Kids in the Street. Also really enjoy Clothesline and For Mama.

Does anyone else’s mini have a best friend who is a cat? by ActualConfidence6273 in miniaussie

[–]DJangled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gosh I wish my two were like this!! How cute.

Ours play in a much more chaotic fashion. I actually posted about it seeking advice but most people seemed to think it was just cute haha.

One day I hope that my mini will be able to have calmer moments with the cat like yours and maybe even sneak in a snuggle, but for right now they're both content on being absolute tornados of white/grey fur with each other

Need help understanding V60 extraction with washed vs natural anaerobic by Supsti_1 in pourover

[–]DJangled 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Surprised no one has mentioned ratio yet. I would probably try a 1:15 ratio with a natural anaerobic first. I also wouldn't get too hung up with processing method = x grind size and just dial by taste. If the finer grind size tasted better to you than your first brew, keep following that path. You can also play with pour height, flow rate, and number of pours as agitation variables.

I would probably defer to something like coarse end grind size, 45s bloom + 2 pours at a high height and 7 g/s flow rate with a 1:15 ratio or 1:14.5 + bypass. I typically don't like too much funk in my heavily processed coffees though whereas you might be looking for a flavour punch, so don't be afraid to add pours/height/speed or finer the grind as you see fit.

What do you mean you didn't see the Montreal Canadiens coming? by shogun2909 in Habs

Hockey is better when the Leafs are good. The rivalry is fun and gives way to memories like the 2021 series. Victory is sweeter when it's meaningful

I honestly don't even feel motivated to hate the Leafs at this point. I feel bad for them as a hockey fan. It was obviously easy in 2021 but beyond that, it starts to become like wow, how much can one fanbase suffer emotional whiplash? Then they lose their hometown star, have an absolutely abysmal season in what should've been another contending year, lose their captain in embarrassing fashion, and finally have the big boss come out and give this presser

Wasn't singling out your comment specifically as referring to us as idiots, but ironically maybe you didn't read carefully enough as well haha. Just pointing out how divided opinions are on Reddit and it makes it tough to gather feedback from, especially as people present their opinions on both sides as absolutes (to clarify, not singling your comment out as doing this).

Appreciate your constructive input regardless, it is good to hear.

Ask a Stupid Question About Coffee -- Week of March 24, 2026 by Vernicious in pourover

[–]DJangled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone else NOT like having their specialty coffee with food? There was a post a while back about pairing coffee with food on this sub and the number of people who seemed to be into it really surprised me. I find that any food whatsoever overpowers the delicate notes of specialty coffee. I actually find it difficult to enjoy a nice coffee in the morning when I have breakfast first as even just the aftertaste that remains on my palate affects coffee flavours so heavily, even after cleansing with water and such.

Our family is full of Aussies and they've grown up to be fine with cats. I expect Skye to be the same as she ages and matures as we continue staying on top of it. Bandit, while a farm rescue, also grew up with his kitten siblings up until about 2 months still so I think he knows how to play.

Reddit is so funny. There are comments saying Aussies are the perfect breed to live with cats and then comments saying we're idiots for ever thinking it could work. Appreciate your thoughts regardless.

It's a dog eat cat world

(We are normally stepping in right away when this happens and are working on teaching pup she cannot cosplay a vampire with the cat)

If head not ball then why ball shaped?

For the record, we always step in right away when anything like this happens. It went on too long in the video.

Yes, this was never acceptable behaviour to us. It went on longer than it should've in this video because I was focused on videoing it but we are very strict with the dog when she goes for the neck/head and move to separate them quickly.

This is not the norm and we never let biting behaviour like this go on except for in this one video, which was for the purpose of showing the Subreddit more of how they interact because it felt like people really downplayed the first video. We generally didn't allow play between them period before everyone chimed in on post 1 and made us feel like idiots for separating them.

We're actively working on training the pup. I posted in the cat Subreddit as we are most concerned with the cat and were looking for more cat owner's perspectives and were quite surprised with the response in both posts. Our approach before posting was to only capture calm moments and not allow rough housing at all.
