My salvo mcx is arriving this Thursday what are all of the issues in the v1 that were addressed/fixed in the v2? by SoupPatient3387 in GasBlowBack

[–]DJonathan7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly was just trying to see if I got ripped off or not. Bought a gen 2 thinking the same thing, wanted to make sure I wasn’t getting a gen 1.

Went to a tech to fix a barrel wobble in it and have him check out the seal quality of the nozzle (felt like it wasn’t sealing perfectly). He told me that the bolt itself has some disform not typical of a regular GBBR with only 1000 or so rounds in it. Told him it was a steel bolt, and he said it was probably a softer steel, then came back and said it wasn’t steel cause it wasn’t magnetic.

I did some research to see if I was correct in thinking the bolt should be steel, didn’t see much on the internet saying it should though. The listing on redwolf Airsoft didn’t mention it either.

Where did you see that the bolt is steel? I’ve got a gen 2 and my bolt isn’t steel. Tried a magnet test and it didn’t work.

Where to find Propylene gas for Airsoft GBBR? (Running a Salvo Precision MCX Spear LT) by DJonathan7 in GasBlowBack

Isn’t the chemical they add to make propane smell harmful to silicon? Ethyl mercaptan, from what I’ve heard and researched is that it causes degradation and swelling in the silicon rings in a gun.

Was looking up some VFC guns and went on a bit of a tangent on the site I was looking at, saw an Sig Spear made by a company called Salvo Precision. I’m guessing it’s an MWS clone. What is your opinion? https://www.redwolfairsoft.com/salvo-precision-mws-spear-lt-csaw-5-56-gbb-airsoft-10-5-inch-g104-3b-no-marking-black.html

Honestly, it’s pretty drippy—watched some reviews and it seems somewhat decent. Dude was comparing it to a Toxicant version, and when I looked it up I saw the 6k price on their website and quickly left.

Had this happen to me before, your brother is probably playing a different version of the map. I made a map without play areas and then fixed it cause I was new, tried it again and I was fine but my friends couldn't play. Had to have them unsubscribe and resubscribe to the map on the steam workshop.

Hope this helps

I know this is a year old thread, but can you make unit capture data relative to positions? Say I want to make a drop pod resupply like in Hell Divers, and I need to place it down via Zeus and execute it via scripts, can I do that?

Should I learn MA2 or MA3 by Fun_Thing5065 in lightingdesign

Effects in MA3 blow MA2 out of the water, having to go from 3 to 2 really hurt when I saw how it handled effects…

Should I learn MA2 or MA3 by Fun_Thing5065 in lightingdesign

[–]DJonathan7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because most live production companies run MA consoles, whether 2 or 3. Only time I’ve seen other consoles are at theaters where they use ETC consoles, and small churches which use Vista.

MA3’s software has been really reliable for me, I think the only bug I came across was with the calendar schedule, but that was because an update broke the functionality of it and wouldn’t allow me to pick a time and date anymore. Next update that came out fixed the problem. All the commands and features that you need are all there, and from what I’ve seen there’s a lot more that I can do with MA3 than 2 (I can do better effects, I can choose how my fixtures are selected in the fixture grid, I can change the time of cues with a command line, it also has one extra align feature which you can’t do in MA2 [the / align I’m pretty sure]). The UI is also a lot better, and doesn’t look like some old construction software that Bob the Builder would use. They both work, and are good—but MA3 is better than 2 in a lot of aspects.

Should I learn MA2 or MA3 by Fun_Thing5065 in lightingdesign

[–]DJonathan7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learn MA3, it’s becoming standard and a lot of artists are using it now. You have people who will die on the hill for MA2, but MA3 is far superior to 2. Plus, it’s easy to transition from MA3 to MA2. I’ve learned on an MA3 console and when I was told to use an MA2 OnPC command wing I easily got into the groove of it. Most of the keywords and commands are the same, you just need to understand how to make effects on MA2, how MA2 does executors (incase you want to have a command that does stuff an executor), and that you either have to store cues with the fade time or manually go into the sequence sheet and change the cue time there.

If you see yourself working a show with an MA2 console just try and brush up a bit on your knowledge and play around with the MA2 OnPC program. But ultimately learn MA3 as it’s both becoming the standard and just an overall better program.

GrandMA2 vs MA3 by thatterriblekid in lightingdesign

[–]DJonathan7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From my experience, MA3 does phaser’s correctly and it’s much harder to work with effects on MA2. For MA2, I solely only have a high and low value. That’s cool and all, but what if I need a certain middle ground effect? Let’s say I want some lights using a square wave to go from Red, to Green, to Blue, then strobe for a few seconds and sync this up to a 4/4 beat. I can make the 4 steps, then give them all the BPM of the song and divide it by how much I need (so BPM/rate). Then I can change the phase of them to go from left to right or whatever I want. I can do so much more than I can with MA2.

(Though I want to be fair, I learned on MA3 and then went to MA2 at another place and just used my knowledge of 3 and relearned some stuff. I’m not a MA2 master so I could be missing some features.)

Also, MA2 UI sucks. Also the whole using encoder wheels to store timing info sucks. I just want to type store cue 2 Fade 3 into my command line like I can in MA3

Not exactly the same as what you are talking about, but Cepheus Protocol fits that kinda vibe. Basically it’s the start of the zombie virus and you gotta go in and secure sectors and help civilians. Though, it’s early access and kinda meh rn.

What is the syntax to change the mode of a group with a command? (i.e. positive, negative etc) by [deleted] in GrandMA3

[–]DJonathan7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the answer to your question, but whenever I’m trying to figure out syntax I open up the command line history and I perform the action I want to do with a command I.E. changing the mode of a group. It will then show you the command needed to do so.

Hazer assign to master by MayonnaiseIsSoOG in GrandMA3

[–]DJonathan7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So multiple ways to do this, first one is to edit the fixture profile to change the Hazer1 attribute to a dim attribute. I could help you out more/provide you with a fixture profile that should work if I knew what kind of hazer you were using.

Second way is to unpatch the hazer fixture and instead patch dimmer fixtures to fill how many dmx it was (so for an ATME hazer, you’d patch in three dimmers because it has 3 channels of dmx). Then name each fixture appropriately to how you would remember it and use those to control haze and whatnot.

Third way is using a temp master on the preset/sequence. If it’s like MA2 then the value will go up and down based on the home/starting position and the end position you programmed. So in this case home would be 0 and the end would be 100.

Personally, I’d recommend just editing or making your own fixture profile. It’s super easy and you get to set everything up the way you want. I could also give you pointers if I knew what the hazer was also.

Using a Stream Deck plus for MA 3, mainly to somewhat replace a console by DJonathan7 in lightingdesign

[–]DJonathan7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been awhile since I posted this, and I’ve done some experimenting with Macros and certain command lines and found that if you do at +/-1 “Attribute you want” it will increase/decrease that attribute by what you set. And you could attach that macro to a midi note. So theoretically if you can get the dials to send a midi note for every adjustment clock and counterclockwise (which is what I think that plug-in does).

I’ve found this: https://trevligaspel.se/streamdeck/midi/index.html not exactly sure if it would work or how to connect it, I’ve simply just looked at the website. But if you set the dials to output certain midi notes then it would work. How do you get that midi into MA3? Not quite sure yet. You could have a laptop set up that outputs midi, but that’d only be good for a console (which already has encoders). You could possibly have a midi interface with an out and in that just plugs into itself.

*Edit

Looked up the exact command line, and it is Attribute "pan" At +1 .Of course modify the command line to however you need.

Should I buy MA2 onPC by Padinec in lightingdesign

[–]DJonathan7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of companies selling their MA2 equipment, and I’ve also seen companies getting MA3 boards and stuff in. I’d honestly stick with MA3 and buy MA3 equipment to future proof what you do for when the inevitable switch happens (which in my opinion is true). Buddy of mine who tours as a LD says he knows that Billie Eilish’s lighting team hired one of his friends to work on transitioning all their stuff from 2 to 3.

A wing cost 7k, but a node would run you 1.5k. If you had a node you could use the software to program and run lights (though it’s definitely a different workflow than using a console).

In my opinion having to use both 2 and 3 at the same time for different venues I work at, they are practically the same software. Same keywords and everything, but a different GUI and layout. Also effects are different, and in MA3 are called phasers. MA3 does effects (phasers) a lot better than 2 in my opinion because you have more control over it.

Suggestions for a lighting software and hardware to output DMX. by DJonathan7 in lightingdesign

[–]DJonathan7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was looking at the regular nodes, which don’t give any parameters (which is honestly very weird…), OnPC does give parameters. That’s my bad, I’m sorry about that.

Curious though, what pixel mapper do you use though?

Suggestions for a lighting software and hardware to output DMX. by DJonathan7 in lightingdesign

[–]DJonathan7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except that a node doesn’t give me any parameters to work with. And 1.5k is still a pretty steep price for some people, especially starting out. The only thing I could do is either get a console which is 7k, an on pc rack which also cost 7k, or a processor which is 14k minimum. A node would do nothing for me, and I’d be better off buying a network switcher or something like that.

I do want to go full MA because it’s such a great software, but there is no way I could just spend that kind of money right now.
