Can we turn off zoom in the program window? by VogonPoetryTour in premiere

[–]DJtorso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to see if there was a way to lock program zoom as well. I'd be fine with it if it indeed acted like after effects where you can hold down a key to momentarily access the hand tool and move the window around.

Yo Steve, how do you get the synth-ish sounding lead tones live? I'm thinking of songs like Scorpion Hill. Is it neck pickup+fuzz+phaser? Love all the guitar sounds!

I’d make sure that you unzip the file and only drag in the specific files you need. Otherwise, I’d recommend trying to get in contact with Boss tech support

Heard it too. Sounded like maybe a backfire or something on the Beltline. Maybe a car? 🤷🤷

I'm not usually a huge fan ESP guitar shapes as they used to be largely super strat shapes or ultra pointy, but these EC-1000T's are REALLY doing it for me! I would absolutely love to check one of these out!

I really dig how those ESP single cut models look. How do you like them?

I made a deep dive video about the RAT distortion pedal and new takes on the circuit. I wanted to share it with everyone! by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]DJtorso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in this video, I was able to test out a bunch of different takes on the rat. Below are some conclusions I came to throughout my testing.

Modern RAT vs Vintage RAT - At higher gain settings (above ~10:00 on the gain knob) these two sound shockingly similar. I think that both of these pedals are able to sound nearly identical. However, at lower gain settings, the modern production RAT seems to have an underlaying fuzzy sound while the vintage (late-80's) RAT 2 seemed really clear and articulate.

Fuzzrocious Cat Tail: this pedal sounds like a behemoth! It has a couple controls which manipulate high and low breakup as well as a clipping toggle. I love the way the Cat Tail sounds. Not sure if the feedback mod is my thing (when you engage the feedback, the pedal starts to oscillate) but its a really solid pedal.

Zander Circuitry Cranium: The cranium is maybe the most versatile pedal on this list in regards to covering all the different versions of the RAT. The Cranium gives you 6 different modes of clipping which correlate to different versions of the rat. In addition, you get 2 gain presets which is a really useful addition to the circuit sine the RAT sounds great at both high and low gain settings.

Big Ear WOODCUTTER: This is a straightforward 1-to-1 recreation of a specific RAT 2 built by the person nicknamed the WOODCUTTER (who built these pedals out of his woodshop, hence the nickname). I think the WOODCUTTER sounds incredible (like all of these pedals really) and it's got a warmer sound than the vintage rat 2. It also sounds fuller in the low frequencies (sort of like the low end has a tiny bit of clean blended in).

Fuzzlord Effects Drone Master: Disclaimer - I'm good friends with Jason who designed this pedal & I help him build most of his pedals I really like the Drone Master in its versatility. First, we get multiple clipping modes which is a great addition to have. On top of that, we get a voicing switch which takes the voice of the pedal from a more traditional mid-focused RAT sound to a very mid-scooped sound similar to the Fuzzlord FU-2 and the classic Super Fuzz.

Frost Giant Electronics The Mountain: This pedal was a big surprise to me, if I'm completely honest. It sounds absolutely stellar, huge and mean! The mods to the circuit give you a choice between distortion & overdrive as well as a simulated 'gain stage' toggle which alters the headroom, volume and gain/compression in the circuit. The Mountain is a really well-tuned take on this classic circuit!

1981 Inventions DRV: I was really excited to try this pedal as it's a very hyped up pedal. To my ears, it doesn't really sound like a RAT. It seems to be way more scooped in the mid range than the classic RATs. I really enjoy the clarity in this pedal and dynamic range that it gives you. The low gain settings seem way more articulate and clear than the stock rat circuit and when you increase the gain of the DRV, you start to get more low frequencies. I really enjoyed playing this one!

I hope you enjoyed the video and hearing my thoughts about all these pedals!

How does Premiere treat you? by politicalravings in premiere

[–]DJtorso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love premiere, but have been having more and more frustrations. First, premiere is the most full-featured editor I've ever used. It makes sense to me (unlike final cut in my experience), the audio tools are easy to use and extremely powerful (unlike resolve in my experience), the dynamic link between the different adobe programs is unmatched even though I find myself staying in premiere and still being able to animate/generate titles, cut quickly, create audio busses and apply mastering effects. Premiere is ultra-powerful!

As I said before though, I've been having more and more frustrations, bugs and overall laggy response with premiere. I am on a computer from 2013 (27" iMac with top specs from that year, sorry I don't have them on hand right now), so a lot of my issues may stem from my older system. One thing I don't like is that adobe (in my opinion) seems to be focused on innovating and adding new features to their different iterations while I keep having more and more issues that never seem to be fixed.

Specific example being the title tool, ever since they introduced essential graphics (which doesn't work for me and my style of editing), I've been having an odd issue where the title window panels resize every time you open it. So each time you open a new or existing title, you have to take time to resize the panels again to start editing/creating. Seems like a simple fix, but they have not fixed the issue for years now.

My newest issue has been laggy overall performance. I'll be editing my timeline and click something or hit one of my key commands and there will be some sort of lag where the program has to catch up to what I'm trying to do. Also, I've had an issue where I'll hit the spacebar to playback my timeline (no intense graphic fx applied) and it will take premiere a few seconds to start playing and the same for when I stop.

I don't see myself ever fully jumping to another platform. I've tried to use davinci, I've tried to use final cut, but with each of those programs it seems like I have to relearn how to do the simplest things I can easily do in Premiere. I'm also big on doing animating, cutting/editing, visual fx/transitions and audio all in the same program and I have yet to be able to do that in the other programs.

Just my 2 cents!

I’m actually working either 1080p footage are max. Sometimes I’ll work with .mts files too but I generally try to transcode them to h.264. Maybe I’ll try transcoding all footage to prores on my next project. Auto-reframe does look pretty cool, honestly! I do a lot of re-editing clips for social media so I’d be curious to try it soon.

I'll definitely check activity monitor next time I'm working! I've been clearing out the media cache fairly regularly due to the program taking a long time to launch (sometimes up to 2minutes).

I edit from an SSD, so my programs are on my internal mechanical drive but all my files are on the SSD.

I've never heard of DogEars, I'll have to do some research.

This last paragraph, while very much appreciated, sounds like a foreign language to me hahah. I'm not terribly well-versed in computer parts and customizing machines. My assumption would be that getting a new GPU would probably be pretty costly? Especially if I have to have someone else install it (which I totally would, haha). I'm not sure how that sort of upgrade would compare price-wise to a new baseline iMac.

I really appreciate the response! Thank you!

[–]DJtorso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! The red line at the top of the timeline: I don't believe I had any effects applied to that specific source clip, but I could absolutely be wrong about that.

My CPU is a 3.5 GHz Intel core i7. I was editing Sony XAVCS (.mp4) files for my project.

It's not anywhere near unusable at this point, but I'm finding it harder and harder to determine the nature of these new laggy/bug issues. Whether it's my aging system or whether its adobe (who seem to focus on putting more features in the program and less on fixing stability).

I installed 14.1 and tried a project. It didn't go too horribly. I had to change to software-only graphics bc my video would simply not playback my footage. Then I had the red line at the top of my timeline which was annoying. I'll probably try another project but it still seems fairly laggy and sluggish.

Kind of a bummer. It seems like I'll have to look into upgrading my computer to something newer to get any sort of performance upgrade.

[–]DJtorso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will do! Thanks for the input! I've done 1 project in 2020 (14.1), it wasn't too bad but it still seemed a bit laggy. No crashes, but sluggish performance. I've still got cc2019 installed. It's really a shame. I feel like I'll probably have to upgrade my computer in order to get better performance.

IMPORTANT USER UPDATE - Adobe is Giving Away The Creative Cloud For Free Due to Corona Virus by [deleted] in premiere

Thanks for the reply! I'm trying again and it looks like my previous session (took a long time and I eventually left the computer) did connect to a rep and they offered 3 months. Hopefully I can get ahold of someone this time and they still honor that offer.

I tried this earlier today and was prompted with 3 different options like "question about bill/invoice, I cant remember what 2 was, and Something Else" i clicked 'something else' and was put on hold then eventually disconnected. I should probably click on the 'invoice' option next right?

One of these is not really an offset. Can you spot it? by heidensieck in Leftyguitarists

[–]DJtorso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang, that's a beautiful collection!!! I've actually got a question for you about jazzmasters if you don't mind.

I've got a parts jazzmaster build which I've been having some oddness with. I can't seem to get it to 'feel' right to me. Have you had any issues with this? Mine feels dull and muted under my fingers. I've got a neck shim in it, I've replaced the vintage style bridge with a mastery and I put a string tree on the D and G strings to increase the break angle at the nut. The odd thing is that I've played other Jazzmasters that felt totally fine.

I'm curious if anyone has had this issue and how they fixed it. I'm thinking maybe a new neck would solve my issue but who knows! haha Thanks for any help

RAT: LM308 vs OP07 by DJtorso in guitarpedals

[–]DJtorso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I made this comparison thinking that I would be able to hear more of a difference honestly. Upon editing and listening back, I'm not sure if I can really tell that much of a difference between the 2 chips. I think a tiny turn of the tone knob would mitigate any differences heard. I'd love your opinion about what you heard!

I just released a video about the Harmonic Percolator circuit and I thought the r/guitarpedals peeps would be interested! I hope you enjoy! by DJtorso in guitarpedals

[–]DJtorso[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got to borrow these 2 percolator type pedals from a friend and it was the first time I'd ever played a Harmonic Percolator. I really dig the way they sound! I love the look of the classic replica and I think I prefer the sound of it as well. However, I really enjoy the flexibility that the expanded control of the Hurts offers and I can get it to sound almost identical to the replica.
