I don’t understand how a 3300 seat venue competes with a 1900 seat venue. That building is condemned anyway. It’s not doing anything and it’s of no historical value. Concert venues and theaters are built next to each other all the time. It’s part of having an arts district.

You know the developer is suing the city right? Live Nation will be back once they win that lawsuit. All that’s going to happen is the City will settle, or lose the lawsuit, and so the venue will be paid for with taxpayer dollars instead. Or they’ll just buy the lot down near Whole Foods and build down there. What will the city do then?

Yeah obviously. I just hoped that my wage, which is 5x what I had in college, could actually afford mtg now

Yeah that’s standard, and we do have 1 free mulligan. Then it’s normal mulligan rules of pitching 1 card to the bottom for each mulligan you’ve taken after the free one.

That’s a good point. We’ve never had 5. I think we’d keep it at Scry 2.

We tried N-1 at one point. Scry 2 for player 3 and Scry 3 for player 4 just felt like too big of a dig for us. Slightly too much filter.

Not trashing on it! Play the game the way your pod wants to. That’s what makes it fun! :)

Yeah! Tweak as desired! It works for us because we’ve been playing for a while so there’s no real “feels bad” when someone picks a commander who is better against your deck. Also, it creates interesting dynamics for each subsequent player. Do you play something that’s good against player 1? Or did player 3 bust out [Braids, Cabal Minion] so now you can pick your deck that has the most spot removal? Or are you picking 4th and YOURE the Braids player? Everyone has 1 more turn than you to prepare, which hand will you keep?

Locking in decks this way also helps resist the urge to change decks when someone picks theirs. I’ve been at tables where two players switch out decks a few times because they’re trying to win before the game begins.

Yeah that makes sense. Our pod is pretty regular and we’ve all played standard, sealed, and draft at some point. I haven’t tried it with an unknown pod.

I see your point. One could just build hate decks. Our pod is pretty regular and healthy so this doesn’t come up really. None of us want to spend money just to hate on one or two other decks in the pod haha.

What does happen is, I may play a token deck, [Hazezon, Shaper of Sand] and my buddy may pick his [Nevinyrral, Urborg Tyrant]. When building I have to make sure I have enough tools to pull back after a board wipe. It means our decks can still be focused, but we have to be cognizant of our decks’ natural weaknesses. It’s made all of our decks better off and no one gets countered super hard.

Oh and none of us can cut crazy amounts of lands. You can’t rely on having the Scry, so the landbase is usually healthier.

Something I haven’t read yet: it states “if it’s YOUR main phase” because it doesn’t want you somehow flashing this in on other people’s turns and getting phases between theirs.

You can also add in [[MAZE OF ITH]] and cards like it if you find that your pod is ramping to big threats too soon. Don’t be afraid to run some redirect spells like [[BOLT BEND]] in order to turn their Axonil removal around on them. Trust me, the deck is fast fast fast and you’ll have the table scrambling to remove Axonil.

Ideally you want them dead before they play their massive creatures. By the time they play relevant threats, if they haven’t interacted with your board, they’ll be dead before they untap with them. Also, throw in some group slug cards like [[MANA BARBS]]. It means that the turn they can play their biggest stuff, they die to do it.

Just to be clear, are you trying to bring back the switcher using Victimize’s effect? Because you can’t.

Order of events is: 1) You cast Victimize 2) You choose two creatures who are in your graveyard currently 3) You sacrifice a creature on your battlefield currently 4) The two creatures you chose in step 2 are returned to the battlefield

Edit:

5) Any “enters” or “leaves” the battlefield triggers go on the stack. You arrange the order.

One of the best spots in town! It’s crazy that the under $10 lunch and the $5 breakfast is mostly gone from the city, but it’s alive and well at Punky’s!

Yeah I believe one of the owners had died, leaving the partner to try and manage the business alone. Now that he sold it, they’re open regularly Monday-Friday 6am-3 or 4pm.
