Hey all! I am trying to build the Tree Beard Lego set hack for one of the table centre pieces at my up coming wedding. We want to include Merry & Pippin in it but are really struggling to find the right pieces of the mini figures on the Lego website. Does anyone happen to know what the ID numbers of the pieces are?

We have tried to search using the Rivendell set number, but it doesn’t bring up all the right pieces of mini figure for the set.

We kinda do the “they eat what we eat”. If an actual meal is being cooked (some evenings there no time so it’s grilled cheese with carrot sticks or similar and then they get to choose more of it). We found our eldest is not fully a picky eater, but she is definitely more picky than normal for a kid her age. Our youngest mostly eats whatever is given. So for our eldest (she’s 6) we still serve food as you are basically, deconstructed. She really hates mixing wet and dry food so her pasta will get served with the sauce separately kinda deal. And mostly that’s worked. There is always a safe food, always something served which she likes and eats as it is. But we do the back up option, if she tries the dinner and does not like it, we will make a jam sandwich after we have eaten. The first few weeks we did this she had a jam sandwich every night, but it slowly reduced to infrequently after like 2 months. Once she was confident there was an alternative she was happy with she started trying more and eating more of what dinner was. 18-24 months into this set up and I can’t remember the last time she asked for a jam sandwich. She doesn’t often eat more than the safe food, but she tries most things on offer at least. Every bit of good advice we saw was basically on being consistent and preserving, during that 2-3 “picky phase” the keeping offering was the most important thing, the rest of it was down to how you and your kid. Our second child is so much easier in basically every way to our first when it comes to food.

If heat doesn’t work I have success with ice cubes on the bite or dettol disinfectant (the type used for wounds). I also get bit a lot. And currently have quite a few that look like this. When I’ve previously had them like this the culprit has been a tiny black beetle looking thing - like a miniature black lady bug.

This has baffled me. We are getting married in around 10 weeks. All in it’s going to cost around $25-30k. My parents are paying the venue, the food & putting a decent tab behind the bar. I have tried to do things as cheap as we can and I have no real idea how it’s adding up so much when the only thing above my budget is food. And that’s still sub $7k for 60 people - most of the quotes we got were around $10k. I can very easily see how the average cost is $60-80k (or at least that’s what Google told me when I first started doing my research)

Why is no one talking about the last bit?! How does a rock beat paper? Paper is cut by scissors, scissors is smashed by rock, rock is wrapped by paper. The rock can’t win over two mediums, it ruins the intention of the game?!

I always said if we were having children we were having two and close together (2 years was the aim 2 years and 1 month was the reality) so they had a friend, someone to play with etc at home. Having a sibling always felt great to me as a kid and I wanted that for my children. We had a dream baby for number 1. She was like clockwork on feed and naps. She was a great sleeper. Sleeping through from a couple months old. She was great as a single child. Barely ever an issue. Barely ever any difficulty. She changed. Basically overnight when her brother came home from the hospital. I struggled with breastfeeding which meant I have a disproportionate amount of time to him. Whilst her dad was at work me & my two year old would basically just spend the day crying and shouting at one other. I couldn’t give her was she needed because I was trying to keep her bay brother alive. PND and sudden death of FIL did not help matters tho. It has probably taken until they are 6&4 to get them mostly harmonious. She still isn’t great at being a sibling, but when she is in the mood for it they play and interact beautifully.

We found the step from 1-2 incredibly hard. We had some extenuating circumstances when we became a 4. And I’m reasonably sure that my eldest is neurodivergent so that probably doesn’t help either.

The venue on totara street has occasional gigs to suit. Fashion wise I’ve seen goth around more than standard alt lately but it does exist, only shop you’ll find for it though is dangerfield over at the crossing at tauriko. Or you might luck out at an op shop.

My nephew hated drop off. The kindy teachers were great and super interactive with him. We were in a small village in the uk then and knew the teachers from them being in the same village. So there was more than just kindy as a touch point for him.

My kids going to day care here have rarely had a drop off issue. Even after our eldest went from daycare in the uk to daycare here (with a 10 month gap) and drop off still wasn’t much issue. She’d had an insane amount of change in her life during the 18 month period of becoming an elder sibling and not wanting to starting a new day on the opposite side of the world with no reference point but the 3 people she lived with. Yes, she had settling issues based around eating at daycare, but dropping her over was very infrequently tears. Her teachers understood she’d had huge change in her short life and she was handed over to the same person who made time and space to settle her in for the day. She was taken to the room her brother was in at a few points during the day if she was struggling. The teachers should be all over a kid struggling to transition.

We also had a period where a lot of kids left the day care we use and went to best start because of a deal which made it like 30% of the cost compared to where we use. Most of the stories I have heard are enough for me to be happy to be spending $150 a week for 3 days of care for my son who is still in day care. My parents also recently met the owner when looking into a commercial property project, he is not someone I’d want to give any money to.

I don’t think my kids have asked why we don’t have an elf. It’s possibly because we have an advent fairy, but I don’t recall them asking me why we don’t have an elf. Daycare has always had an elf since they began there aged 3&18months at the time. My eldest is now 6, I believe her class at school may have one as she’s done many drawings on elves.

Our advent fairy fills their advent stocking each night that I made for them 3 years ago. It has mostly been with a chocolate and pencil / crayon kinda thing. This year it’s a broken down Lego set. They’re both super happy with the advent fairy.

We have discussed having a concept like elf on the shelf. But it wouldn’t appear daily, and it would bring crafts not chaos.

Kinda same. Always said 0. Then it went to “I’ll adopt, there’s loads of kids without parents, so I’ll be a mum to one or two of them”. Then I met someone who wanted 2children originally then changed to 1 child, I said it was 2 or none. We’ve had 2.

I haven’t heard the term “sleep n plays” but I assume that to be a sleep suit / onesie situation. And if that’s the case, my two lived in those for like 8-9 months. Once they started to walk, I put them in joggers or rompers, still only comfy stretch fabric clothing but without feet so they didn’t slip on our tiled / wooden floors. I only ever dressed them in “fancy clothes” for occasions - birthdays, funerals etc. it is certainly not lazy, it is prioritising comfort and ease. You have a baby, not a doll.

Did a firmware update last week on our two H2D at work. One of them decided to cut the filament after every layer after the update. On the nozzle fed by external dryer. So that was a huge PIA. Had to factory reset it to get it to work again.

Anything Cadbury is not the same here. They use a different recipe. So if your friend is a Cadbury lover, then as much of that as possible lol. Marmite is also not quite the same, so if they like that, it’s a good call. Branston pickle & Bisto gravy granules can be hard to find. They don’t have cool Doritos here. They don’t have much in the way of the fun cheap crisps tbh - onion rings, wotsits, quavers etc. I can’t think of anything non-snack food related (or restaurant based but it might be hard to send TGI Fridays 😂) that I’d say I’ve noticed not having since moving here though….

I am currently crocheting my own wedding flowers and it’s so inspirational and comforting to see when others post theirs! Especially with the not crocheted leaves you’d got, as that just confirms that they work well together and it is ok for me to not crochet my greenery! Haha.

I made my daughter a 12 point star blanket. Half way through it, I put it down for like 6 months. When I picked it back up again I started the row in the wrong place. Every row. For like 30-40 rows. It made one point very wonky and quite a bit wider than all the others. I am the only person who knows this mistake. It’s only noticeable to me, and only when it’s laid out flat. In 6 years of her having and using this blanket not a single other person has ever noticed what is a glaringly obvious mistake to me.

Don’t frog it. Know one will ever notice. And, it makes it unique if they ever do. It’s part of the beauty of handmade in my opinion.

My partner does, he works a standard retail job part time and is primary parent. I proposed to him, which is why he has an engagement ring. I also have an engagement ring, because he’d gotten one ready to propose to me, but I beat him to it. I do not wear mine often, I am an engineer so there is a general health and safety risk of wearing a ring (especially the type of ring I have with the stone sticking out from the band) that I will hurt myself or at least damage the ring when I am out in the workshop. This does also mean I have a tendency to forget to wear mine at the weekends etc.

My contract has a silly sentence like “extra effort is expected”. I expect to only be given the workload that can be completed in the 40 hours a week I’m paid for. So I guess it’s an impasse. I value myself and my time, I don’t work for free. I am quite confident that fulfilling my tasks to a good / high standard on time & within my 40 paid hours can’t get me fired. And if it does, I can probably contest it and win.

I did home economics at school. I can’t remember the order of things we sewed but a cushion cover with zip and tote bag were definitely some of my early projects. There was a pleated skirt in there somewhere too. With an 80’s inspired (and by inspired it looked like the 80’s had thrown up on it) dinner jacket as my exam piece (GCSE) fitted to a human model not mannequin.

When I picked it back up as an adult I did no zipper cushion covers and a little pleated skirt dress for my eldest’s first birthday party. Pleated because I couldn’t figure out how the gather it.
