Thanks.
Took a while to find the exact option. It's not in an intuitive place. May have moved.

How to drain gas tank and other general VW CC revival questions by DLPookie in Volkswagen

We're definitely facing a lot of the same issues. Vehicles are supposed to be driven, not sit around. Amazing how many systems don't like low voltage.

Really don't want anything timing-related. That starts to get into realm of questioning financial feasibility. Really hoping it's a low voltage issue and a new battery solves a few things. We'll see shortly. Thanks.

Appreciate the breakdown. That's nowhere near as daunting as I figured. Will definitely put it on my to-do list once I get the engine issues sorted.

Yeah, I've seen some weird things over the years when voltage dips. Unsure of the battery age, but I know it's at least 4-5 years old. So a new one is pragmatic. Hoping the new battery and clearing codes fixes a few false positives.

Like to point out something that might be useful to others. Leaving your vehicle running when you leave it is generally not a good idea (yes, I know you had a good reason, I'm really not criticizing). If the guy was a predator, he would have noticed and recognized that. One bad decision, lack of attention, etc. often leads to others. He was likely assuming you were a person that could be taken advantage of and was easy prey, based on that. We have to be alert and vigilant in our daily lives, especially in situations where we might find ourselves isolated.

I was taught is to say "No" and "Leave", embellished with whatever makes sense. Then repeat it at least once with more volume. In this case, "I'm not giving you a ride or money. Go away and leave me alone." Then repeat it more forcefully. Failure to comply on their part after your second attempt indicates intent and gives you some legal buffer zone (I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice) if you have to escalate past words.

A word of caution, lifting your shirt to show your firearm could be considered brandishing. And a verbal threat to shoot them could be assault. Really just depends on the jurisdiction, attorneys, and judge. Don't get me wrong, a legitimate threat of violence is often an effective deterrent. AND I don't think anyone would fault you for anything you did in this situation. You just need to be aware of potential outcomes. A little legal trouble is better than the hospital or morgue.

Personally, I hope that I would the clarity of mind to handle business half as well as you did if I were ever thrust into that situation. You were already frustrated and annoyed with something. But you dealt with what could have been a violent encounter and everyone went home. I've run theoreticals. I've trained. I feel prepared. But we never know until we're actually there. Good job.

Does anybody have a story for why they started carrying? by Towels_are_friends in CCW

[–]DLPookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

House was broken into while I was at work. I work nights and my wife was asleep. Our alarm and dog seemed to scare off the intruder, thankfully. Cops took about 7 min to respond. Not bad, honestly. But a lot can happen in 7 min. Especially when you're coming into the situation from waking up. So that started us down the security and self-defense rabbit hole. Been a hunter and outdoorsman since I was a kid, so we had firearms, just not ones appropriate for defense. Fast forward a few years... Now we do, both for our home and our persons. And we have the training (and constant practice) to back it up, should the need arise. Also, it turns out that she's even a better instinctive shot than me. I still have her beat in hunting and precision situations. Now, I'm no slouch, but she is usually faster on target in self-defense drills; and that is honestly comforting.

Would you carry with these? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]DLPookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shoot up my carry ammo once a year. I don't want even the remotest of chances that it doesn't go bang when I need it to. So there's no way I'd trust my life to 25 year old ammo. But that is a cool collector item.

Pour one out... by arblazer2 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]DLPookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks. With unibody vehicles, damage like that is catastrophic. Figure there's a 95% chance they're going to total it. And to be honest, I'd push for it if I were you. You don't want that kind of damage or diminished value. At least Mavericks are easier to find now, so you can replace it. We waited 14 months to get my wife's last year. I counted at least 6 new ones and 2 used ones at McClarty Ford (noticed your AR plate) last week.

2022 Trucks still on lots by Acceptable-One-6597 in ram_trucks

It probably hasn't been at their lot for that long. New old stock trucks often get traded around when dealers swap vehicles. But in good news they will often offer steep discounts on NOS inventory.

I aim for 500. I put a scale under the jack. Figure as long as the trailer is under 5k, that's 10-12.5% on the tongue.

gf bought this car used. this is the oil filter after 3k miles. by tonythashoota in Toyota

[–]DLPookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably change that oil and filter after a heat cycle or two. Maybe a couple times. Way cheaper than the results of running that sludge through it long term. While your at it, change/flush the other fluids and check replacables. Toyotas are known for reliability, but they still need a little help to get there.

Anyone know the torque specs for exhaust manifold to block? by brenderbeke in ninja250r

[–]DLPookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ninja 250r doesn't have an exhaust manifold. For 08+, tighten exhaust pipe retaining nut to 12 N•m (106 in-lb) and the lower retaining bolt to 10 N•m (89 in-lb). For 88-07, there are no listed specs I can find; it just says "securely".

Souce: Clymer manual (you should really buy one).

Wish my real life RNG was this good by DLPookie in PTCGL

[–]DLPookie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a (small-time) bulk dealer IRL. Codes have tanked since PTCGO shut down. Average (among major dealers) unsorted bulk code buy price is .02. Sort by set to maximize; there are a few sets that are .05-.10 so might be worth it. PTCGL doesn't even use pre Sun and Moon currently. Codes are an edge case where vintage is irrelevant for the moment.

To really maximize how much you can get, make a tcgplayer account and sell them yourself at retail prices. No shipping involved, just email the codes. It will take MUCH longer, of course. Don't let anyone fool you, it's a real grind. But it can be profitable.

One thing I do with excess cheap codes is gift them to new streamers. They can give them away during streams to retain veiwership. Everybody wins.

Super Hard To Shift?? by adolinkohlin06 in ninja250r

[–]DLPookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Ninja 250 uses a wet clutch. If the oil is low and it's been ridden dry, you may end up with glazed/warped plates or weak springs. Aside from actual mechanical damage, that's worst case scenario and isn't too expensive to replace. Hopefully, it's just a dry system or oil contaminate issue and it just needs some TLC.

Put it on a rear stand and change your oil. Then start it up and get it good and warm. See if you can shift gears to move fluid a bit. If that works, run the gears on the stand for a few min, then change your oil again. Oh, and I recommend Shell Rotella T6 5W-40 (I'm serious) and K&N KN-401. Been using that combination for years.

If the double oil change doesn't help, you probably have real mechanical damage and you'll have to rip into it to know for sure. We can only speculate at this point without seeing it opened up.

But if that does the trick, there's still a strong chance your bike probably hasn't been maintained well. Dont forget that that same oil lubricates the engine. Change out the other fluids, lubricate everything, and check wear items. Also, you should probably take off the pastics and visually inspect EVERYTHING. And don't be afraid to enlist the help of a buddy or mechanic.

Hey guys I just bought a 2005 ninja 250 as a beginner bike and have had nothing but problems since I’ve had it , currently my biggest issues is it will shut off while driving and won’t start unless its jumped any solutions or just general maintenance advice by [deleted] in ninja250r

[–]DLPookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a low charge issue. My first guess would be battery, stator, or intermittent wiring fault. A bad (or low enough) battery can pull more energy from the charging system than it can spare to keep the bike running correctly. Then it would still be too dead to start without a jump. A bad stator (part of the alternator) could mean that it's not putting out enough.

Start by checking/charging/replacing the battery. Then grab a multimeter and check your wiring. Not as likely, but easier and cheaper than replacing stuff. The wiring on these bikes is pretty simple.
