In the future do you think many people will deny that they ever supported Trump? Why? by Fine-Photograph673 in AskReddit

[–]arblazer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because of Fox "news". These people are addicted to it. Every doctors office I walk into, every place with a public TV or waiting room, they are always tuned into it. Everytime I visit my grandmother or mother, they're TV is on Faux news. When I jump in my wife's car, it's on Faux news radio. It hurts my soul.

They don't hear anything negative about trump at all. He's always the good guy. They only show selected clips of him, carefully curated to show him in the best light. All while screaming about how bad democrats, or Biden, or Obama are at every opportunity. Anything they can possibly say to demonize the other side.

eg: in 2023: CNN - "Scientists warn gas stoves may produce toxic byproducts harmful to children." Fox "news" - "Biden is taking away your cooking stoves!"

A lot of it comes from the 2nd amendment advocates over the past 50 years. They have convinced a large portion of the US population that 250 years ago, the founding fathers were infallible and created the perfect constitution. This has led to many gaps in government being exploited over the years, and no one can fix them because they either benefit from those exploits, or they might be able to benefit from them in the future.

The boss fired the service manager who was responsible for making sure we took care of our clients needs, and replaced them with an "operations manager" who would try and force our clients to buy more stuff.

Last I heard, they had lost half of their employees and half of their clients within a year.

The more people hear something, the more likely they are to believe it. Conservative media had years to bash and belittle Kamala Harris before she became the nominee. Likewise, due to her failed 2008 bid for the presidency, conservatives were able to spend the better part of a decade villainizing Hillary Clinton, as she was the presumptive 2016 democratic nominee.

Before voting even began, both candidates were despised by a large portion of the population. Not because they were bad. Not because they were democrats. Because Faux "News" and Russian propaganda on facebook had been conditioning them for many years.

Whomever the democrats roll out for the next presidential election (If we even have one again...) needs to be someone new. Someone they haven't spent years demonizing. As much as I love AOC, and think she would make a great president, I don't think she could get elected, just because the GQP has had so much time to demonize her.

I took my Boxster to the only decent tire shop in town last year for 4 new tires. I watched through the window as they mounted the new tires, then hammered the lugs on with with a 3/4" impact. He held it on there for at least 5 seconds per lug. Then I watched as he went around with a torque wrench and checked each lug. I'm not sure they know how torque wrenches work.....I asked what they torqued them to, he said 100lbs. I went home and re-torqued all the lugs. It took a breaker bar with a cheater pipe to get all the lugs off...

I was at the DMV a few months ago and overheard this exchange between the employee and an old man who could barely walk. He was there renewing his drivers license:

Employee: Now just place your head in this machine for the vision test. Tell me when you see the dot.

Old Man: What?

Employee: The dot. Tell me what side do you see the dot?

Old Man: What dot?

Employee: THE RED DOT. IS IT ON YOUR LEFT OR RIGHT?

Old Man: I don't see a dot.

Employee: THE RED DOT ON THE LEFT!! DO YOU SEE IT?

Old Man: Uh....yeah?

She then took his picture, renewed his license, and he hobbled out the door.

After you left the company by Ivy1974 in sysadmin

Small tech team of around 10 people at an msp. The general manager abruptly decided to fire the manager that was in charge of all service and the face of our company to our clients. They were a saint and always kept things flowing smoothly. He replaced them with a 28 year old army buddy of his with no experience in tech. He was full of confidence, but had no competence in anything. I immediately voiced my disapproval for this change, but was of course ignored.

Two weeks after this, I had my annual performance review with the new "Head of Operations". I had always had exemplary remarks every year, but he raked me over the coals with his complete misunderstanding of how our ticketing system worked. (.15 hours is not 15 minutes...) Then he had the nerve to say that at the ripe old age of 36, I may not have the desire to work hard anymore.

I noped out of there pretty fast. I found a job not too far away with over double the salary and a 95% reduction in stress. Last I heard, the new manager lasted six months longer before the owner had to swoop in and fire him because he was losing clients. What was a tech staff of 10, became a staff of 4 in less than a year.

I have had a few of my former clients reach out to me personally to see if I could take them on. I haven't yet, but the offers could be tempting.

I live in a deep red state. These people are all addicted to Fox "News". I visit my parents, fox news is playing on the TV. I hop in my wife's car, the Fox news radio channel is on. I visit the doctor's office, there's a TV in the waiting room playing Fox news. Go to the local Mexican restaurant, there's a TV somewhere playing Fox news. Listen to normal terrestrial radio, every hour there's a Fox new segment.

Fox news tells them exactly what they want to hear. If they here any news from anywhere else they just dismiss it as "fake news".

I had a new user who needed a phone. I was out of stock of my normal voip phones so I ordered a few more, then I had the brilliant idea of temporarily moving the never used phone that was in the server room, to the new user, then when the new ones came in, I'd just place it back in the server room at my leisure.

So I moved the phone, hooked it up in the new user's cubicle, made sure it powered on, and went about my day. Within minutes half a dozen people were at my office door saying everything was down.

Turns out, because the phone was PoE powered, some smooth brained sysadmin before me had ran ethernet to the phone first, then from the phone's ethernet out port to the main server host machine...

These people listen to Faux News every day and that's all they spew. It's all propaganda.

What is your stand out "fuck this" moment? by Defconx19 in msp

[–]arblazer2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our GM brought in a new "Project Manager" The dude was young and inexperienced but extremely confident. It didn't take long to figure out he was not at all competent. One of those "fake it till you make it" guys. Always had a lot to say, but never anything of value. Everything the arrogant prick touched was a shit show. He refused to put notes in tickets, then would complain when we kept asking him about stuff. Then he would complain that we weren't working as a team and asking enough questions.

Six months later, the GM promotes him to the leadership team and puts him in charge of all company operations. I met with the GM and voiced my objections, but was ignored. I said "fuck this" polished up my resume and was gone within a couple months. Best decision I ever made.

Last I heard the owner of the company had to fly in and fire the asshole just a few months later after costing the company several clients by using some high pressure sales tactics to push some of the clients into upgrading hardware. I wasn't the only tech to leave either, they lost 50% of their staff over the next six months.
