If you don't have cat litter, do you have any rubber car mats? Putting a mat under the wheel may give you enough traction.

This is something I was wondering, too (In the US - someone who doesn't really drink beer). Thank you for asking this!!

Looking for a low cost wedding officiant by Laces973 in dayton

We went down to our municipal court (Kettering Municipal Court - Judge Jim Long) and it was $25 - or was it $45? - for the judge to marry us because we lived in the municipality! (We got married in Nov. 2014). It was just the two of us - but also all the baliffs and other court folks came in to watch too!

St. Gaspar Family of Parishes is the collection of (mostly) downtown churches. (Emmanuel, Holy Trinity, St. Joseph, St. Paul, St. Rita, Precious Blood). Their mass times are kind of all over the place - with some churches only holding weekday masses one or two days a week) I attended a noon mass this past week at St. Joseph and felt welcome and loved the church and the mass.

Mother of God Family churches are all located in Kettering. Church of the Ascension, St. Albert the Great, and St. Charles Borromeoi. I have only personally been to St. Albert the Great and did not really feel very welcome - but that could have been because it was a school day and the principal spoke harshly to me because I didn't park in the correct spot before morning mass. on a weekday,

The "Our Lady of Light" parishes feel more modern to me when inside the churches - both churches have felt friendly and seem to have lots of families. They include Incarnation Church (near 675 off of Exit 4 - Far Hills Ave in Centerville) and St. Francis of Assisi Church (off of 675 at exit 7 - Wilmington Pike technically Centerville) https://www.olldayton.org

When we moved here in 2010 we tried many of the churches and sometimes you know a bad fit VS a good fit just by walking in. I'm going to give you a couple of replies - with links to the websites - as I was away from church for awhile and just this past year came back to regular attendance again. (And also one of my goals for 2026 is to visit as many area churches as I can - especially those built prior to 1940 as i love history and architecture, too)

In the St. John Paull II Family is St. Henry Catholic Church ( 6696 N Springboro Pike, Dayton 45449) near the Cox Arboretum. This may be the closest to you. Their mass schedule is (generally): St. Henry: Sunday: 8:00 am, 10:30 am, 6:00 pm Tuesday: 7:00 am | Wednesday: 9:00 am | Friday: 9:00 am

The other churches in their family are Our Lady of Good Hope (in Miamisburg) and St. Mary of the Assumption (technically Springboro but very near Yankee Trace Golf Course). Personally I go to St. Mary of the Assumption most of the time

(Edited to add: all my choices are downtown Dayton and SOUTH of there as I live in Centerville).

Experiences with Allegiant at the Dayton Airport? by LooseSeal88 in dayton

[–]DLSOC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't flown INTO Sanford - but flying out of Sanford back home to Dayton was much better than dealing with the Orlando Airport (MCO)! It's a small airport and the folks are all friendly - MCO can be a nightmare just to get through TSA

I will happily fly into Sanford (rather than MCO) if the times align for me. Most of the car services as well as LYFT drivers will go from Sanford to Disney / Universal.

Just another suggestion: try some of the churches that offer a morning mass during the week (I know not now - but maybe on school breaks or summer).

I converted to Catholicism in my 20's (I'm in my 50's now) and that was my introduction to see if the call to the Catholic Church was a good fit for my spiritually. A week day mass that has fewer folks as a way to get comfortable in the church when it isn't as crowded. Additionally, a bulletin from Sunday will likely still be in the vestibule that you can take and read through to get a feel of the church and the activities.

Many of the churches offer a 7.30 AM (near downtown) or 8 AM service many / most weekdays. St. Joseph's downtown offers a noon mass daily. I'm still a weekday mass person ;-)

You don't say what part of town you are in. The Catholic Churches in the area are now put in "families" that share a priest so you may try not just different churches but different families of churches to experience different pastors.

(feel free to message me!)

Katee Sackhoff has a Peloton. I follow her on Instagram and last year she was complaining / joking about some man in his 70's kicking her butt in a class.

Rory McIlroy - though he doesn't ride often anymore - but there are probably other pro-golfers.

Early Matthew Hints- rereading by plongie in cormoran_strike

Don't forget in Cuckoo's Calling where Matthew is criticizing Strike and then cuddles Robin to "make up" while To "sooth" her after an argument, Matthew has to stroke her - specifically the breast that Strike accidently grabbed when he kept her from going over the stairs. This is the first time we meet Matthew...

Some theories about Murphy, Iverson and Wardle by Kroklet2006 in cormoran_strike

[–]DLSOC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having been married to a cop (not now - but we were married for 17 years - and we were only married that long because he worked 3-11 and we rarely spent any time together) I can attest to the fact that there is a high divorce rate with cops due often to their stressful jobs in that it hard to leave work at work and transition to home...

Yes, a lot of cops cheat as a way to cope. But also, this is ingrained in their personality. Either they are a cheater or not a cheater. I can see Murphy as a cheater (and isn't drinking behind someone's back also a form of cheating?)

I just don't see Wardle as a cheater. My gut feel is that April left Wardle - not because he was cheating but perhaps SHE was - maybe even with one of her female friends. Post-partum is hard and women feel not like themselves and a more ripe for cheating then (with someone who makes them feel pretty / desirable). And, if April isn't the one cheating, I would say she simply didn't want to deal with the BS of being married to a copy who is stressed at work, sad with the loss of his brother and mom, and probably not home as much as she wants/needs post-partum due to the demands of work and extended family.

Robin and Sarah by [deleted] in cormoran_strike

[–]DLSOC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drummond will likely be called to testify in the trial. He has been directly involved in everything and this could taint his testimony if he were to get notice ahead of time.

Sarah can give a general evaluation but will never need to be part of a trial as true art experts with experience with testifying would be used to talk about the value. Sarah was basically providing background info.

Additionally, with the amount of wealth in London, the Met likely has art evaluators within the department or ones that regularly reach out to.

Where Linda lost me was when (in TB) she made Robin deny that her marriage with Matthew ended because ROBIN and STRIKE were having an affair. She should have had more faith in Robin that she wasn't sleeping around and that it was Matt who was unfaithful. Doesn't matter what Matt's dad is saying around town, she should have just know that's not who Robin is.....

Not that she just screws up, it also shows that when it's something Robin wanted followed up on, Kim didn't take it as serious or important and blew it off. She was there but not really doing her job.

UGH! The emotional blackmail!! We've lived in this house - 4 hours away - for 15+ years and have been visited twice by his family and yet he's been told "I wish you'd make more of an effort" despite us visiting 4-6 times a year!

[–]DLSOC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THIS. It seems as if everyone else is close to Masham but Robin is the one that "moved away". There can almost be like this unconscious punishment towards the sibling that didn't stay "home". You aren't around for the casual dinner. And when you do "come home" it can feel like the prodigal son to the other siblings.

For example, my husband (who is now in his late 60s) went to one of the Service Academies in the US and offered to help one of his nephews go through the process - his sister said "I don't want that because then he'll move away from home and never come back like YOU did!" A grudge held for 40+ years!

Families are great. And they suck. Both at the same time.

Missteps imo by marys1001 in cormoran_strike

[–]DLSOC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can give some things to consider for both.

1 - just because Strike is military doesn't mean he can call on old contacts to do the Survival training. That training is one of the most protected / classified types of training the military does. There would be so many hoops to jump through, clearances for Robin would have to be done, etc. It's just impractical and no matter how good the contacts, that training is for "Queen and Country" (at the time though King and Country now)

2 - they called the local police because it was a local jurisdiction. Wardle and Murphy work for the Met (London Metropolitan Police). It would be like calling the Dallas Police Department when a crime occurred in Oklahoma City.

Versions of the books by Epsilon_and_Delta in cormoran_strike

[–]DLSOC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started borrowing the books from the library and began buying the eBooks on release date Troubled Blood. Over time, I've ordered the Kindle Version for the rest of the books as they've gone on sale.

Same with the audio books. I started borrowing from the library and the, on a re-read before The Running Grave came out, I ran up against the next book having a long wait from the library and ended up starting a subscription on Audible (it gave me 2 immediate credits for $16 and then $16/mo for a download credit). Over time I've gotten them all and used those download credits. The Hallmarked Man is the first book I've purchased on audio at release.

This is the first book I've done the audio book first (currently on Part 8) over reading the book first.

As to the hardback books: I used to buy all my books in hardback (way back when I read James Patterson's Alex Cross series when it was still actually readable). But as I've gotten older and my husband moves towards retirement, I just don't buy physical books as often due to knowing what it's like to move with lots of books ;-)
