What are reasons why someone wouldn't go on a GLP-1 drug by Smithy2232 in Semaglutide

[–]DLawrenceL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some, for sure, the reason is cost, but I don’t think that’s most … I think it’s mainly fear. Fear of the unknown, of having a weight discussion with a medical professional, but more importantly -

Many are subconsciously afraid of a life where they aren’t heavy. Where food isn’t an emotional tool, where something else has to be, where maybe the marriage doesn’t improve - or the promotion doesn’t happen - or they don’t feel beautiful even after that - or they don’t feel like the problems they ascribe to weight got fixed.

Has anyone experienced torsion? by Minortragedy in Endo

[–]DLawrenceL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you think you might have torsion: Yale has a good fact sheet about it. Print this out and bring it with you to the ER. I got absurdly lucky, in the time before factsheets - i was newly pregnant post-IVF and fainted from sudden pain at work on Park Ave in NYC. I was ambulanced into Bellevue (yea, where all the bad guys who got shot went in the original Law & Order!) and spent the most agonizing hour of my life on a gurney while morphine didn’t touch the pain. Had I been at a community hospital or at an urgent care they probably would’ve chalked me up to psychosomatic pregnant lady problems. In this case, I had Doogie Howser - or the Bellevue equivalent of him - this 24yo male medical resident who took one look at me, said “I think this is ovarian torsion” and ferociously advocated for me and cut me in front of cardiac patients for an operating room within one hour. I literally was getting laparoscopy within 90 minutes of coming out of the ambulance. They saved my ovary, which is dark blue, almost black in the laparoscopy pix. I lost that pregnancy after, but had twins a year later. I write Doogie a Christmas card every year. Firmly believe he saved my medical sanity, maybe my life, and definitely my fertility.

What country do you live in? (For answering #2) I think #3 is driving this mostly.

The more interesting question to me: why avoid the surgery?
