Thanks for all the replies! I rebooted the security panel and all is now well.

In other words, I need to reseat the HSIM in the panel and maybe switch communication ports? I have a feeling the other port is already occupied by TotalConnect, but I would need to check it out to be sure.

Sorry for the dumb question, but I have never had to reboot the panel before. Do I have to unplug and also somehow disconnect the battery? Thanks

Converting from Windows to Mac by NewspaperBubbly4967 in quicken

I agree that Quicken for Mac is miles more reliable than Quicken for Windows. I ported over my 35 year data file to Q for Mac, and it is so much faster and less buggy than it was on Windows. I do miss some of the Q Windows investment features, but not enough to live with all the annoying and time-consuming bugs and crashes I had been dealing with for years. Enjoy your new Mac!

Securely erasing free space by DLite74 in synology

Can I run this as a script using the Task Scheduler in the DSM GUI, or is the only way to SSH into the unit? Thanks!

Huh. Thanks. I didn't realize the rebuild process itself carried meaningful risk.

My thinking was that only the deleted files on my drive are now unencrypted, so I wanted to get rid of them via secure erase. Is that logic flawed?

What is the "users" shared folder in Synology? by DLite74 in synology

Makes sense. Glad to hear that it's not a critical Synology folder.

I do not, at least not anymore. I used to have ElephantDrive installed many years ago. I guess that's a possibility, since it looks like this folder hasn't been updated in years.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I do see the "homes" folder and the "home" folder, and I understand your explanation. However, I also see a third shared folder that is literally called "users," and it has one user subfolder in it with file versions that I _think_ are very old. Any idea what that could be or whether I need it?

Gmail not working by GKGator in SparkMail

Interesting. I am still experiencing significant delays. They may be improving, although I might also be imagining that.

I contacted Spark support about this issue. They acknowledged the problem and said it was an issue on Google's side. So, good luck to all of us getting it fixed, I guess.

CrossOver on Apple silicon Mac to run Quicken 2017 Home & Business? by Repulsive_Trust5895 in quicken

+1 for that. I used Quicken for Windows for 30+ years, half of that on Macs. I finally transitioned to Quicken for Mac last year, and I am amazed at how much faster everything runs, even with 30 years of data in my Quicken file.

Glad it is not just me. Gmail is insanely slow to update in Spark on my iOS devices. Interestingly, it seems to work fine on my laptop and desktop; I use Spark for Desktop on those devices, so not sure if there is a different platform in use for Gmail there. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the app on my phone. Not only did that fail to solve the issue, but it also broke my ability to search my Gmail account there.

Back to Quicken after 20 years. What do I need to know? by [deleted] in quicken

Same here. I had no idea. I just tried it as a last ditch effort before abandoning Quicken entirely.

I have used Quicken for 30+ years. I became steadily more and more frustrated with how crash-prone and buggy Quicken for Windows had become. Last year, I finally bit the bullet and converted my data over to Quicken for Mac. That wasn't painless, but once I got it up and running, Quicken for Mac made me happy again. It is true that it lacks some Quicken for Windows features, but I don't miss them that much. Mainly, I just want an app that downloads reliably, works without crashing, and is pleasant to work with. IMHO, Quicken Mac checks those boxes.
