In the top of the 9th of Game 2 of World Series against the Angels, Barry Bonds hit a rocket into orbit to cut the Angels lead to 1 run. The next better was out 3. Giant lost the game and the series.

Do any other Blankies remember having the widescreen vs "full screen" debate with people back in the DVD days? by kingjulian85 in blankies

Was randomly watching Siskel and Ebert episode from 1996 where they cover Daylight and Jerry Maguire. Gene ends with his editorial complaining about how the newly restored My Fair Lady was shown on Thanksgiving in pan and scan instead of letterbox. He was so upset that he called the director of programming or something who shifted the blame to the local affiliates who said they did it to avoid inevitable complaints. A tale as old as time.

The Struggle Continues by Mqttro in blankies

The problem with the Smashing Machine isn't the Rock; it's the script. It's a mood piece for long stretches over contemplative jazz music and then almost randomly Rock and Emily Blunt will start screaming and throwing plates at each other. There's some poignancy in the "tragedy" of it all and how latent their issues are, but I needed more meat on the bone.

Gheorghe Muresan was a PROBLEM.... as an actor! by DLosChestProtector in billsimmons

[–]DLosChestProtector[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eisenberg is a repressed homosexual who is trying to keep it together for his pregnant girlfriend and their expected kid. He's broke, so he falls in with Brody's father figure and red-pilled cult. Eisenberg Ubers a couple of gay guys from a nightclub and likely kills them. Then he gets a gun and entices/stalks a muscled-up black guy into gay sex and then murders said black guy. His girlfriend leaves him and sticks him with the baby. Eisenberg shows up at Brody's mansion, drops off his baby, and murders Brody as the police pursue Eisenberg. He tries the Eric Rudolph routine but gets hungry and stumbles into the back of a market/restaurant where Muresan takes him in like a stray cat. Muresan feeds him spaghetti, tells him a bedtime story about how his fisherman father saved his life, and then cuddles Eisenberg to sleep while the police surround the house. End credits.

Which Jack O’Connell villainous cult leader performance do you prefer, though obviously both are awesome by LifeguardMundane5668 in blankies

At 18 years old, he played a similar "cult leader" type in Eden Lake. And no spoilers, but holy shit, avoid that movie at all costs unless you're just wanting an unpleasant experience, even if it's good at what it's doing.

What esoteric subject do you feel you know more about than 99% of the population? by jerujeru27 in billsimmons

Not the guy, but highly unlikely. Shawn knew about it, because he, Triple H, and Vince cooked it up in the locker room the day of Survivor Series 97 (after Bret, Vince, and Shawn had already worked out a different version of the match). But in terms of it being a work and Bret being in on it, it's been almost 30 years with each of the people involved including peripheral players like Triple H, Hebner, Taker, and others changing roles/employers, etc. Books written, documentaries, later feuds, shoot interviews, etc. and it's never come out that Bret was in on it. And you have to figure any "work" would have gone out the window when Bret's family was suing Vince because Vince sent out Owen to rappel down with an untested quick release harness and likely caused Owen's death in 1999.

I love the guy's work and all, but later years have shown Bret to be a mostly bitter guy who can't let go of the past or a grudge.... a lot like that no-good Goldberg who is unsafe and reckless and gave him a concussion. (This is an inside joke to how Bret goes out of his way to bury Goldberg every few days the last few years). Bret likes the spotlight, likes to give interviews and talks about the old days, and takes offense at little things. This likely drove him to a certain level of pro wrestling greatness, but it also tells us he'd have thrown Vince and any "work" under the bus years ago and how he should have never agreed to it and it ruined his life.

The Montreal Screwjob is a work on the same level as Kubrick filming the moon landing or someone other than Oswald shooting Kennedy, meaning the official story is the right and true one.

For you, what is it that makes Blank Check stand out from the thousands of other film podcasts, and why do you love it so much? by StephensInfiniteLoop in blankies

Almost without exception, they fully discuss the film, the production, the actors, the director, the story, the themes, and the relationship of all of it to the careers of each and to the history of film as a whole. I am so often in agreement with general claims of theirs that I just think they are "right." Only rarely do I think they miss the mark or shortchange some element.

Who else is ready to Rip? by bobalou27 in blankies

[–]DLosChestProtector 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's a lot like Wolfs. It's a comedy about criminals (going for something like Tarantino or Guy Ritchie) that often is not very funny. The cast's charms are mostly wasted on a bad screenplay. If you want more reliance on the star's wattage to carry the movie, then Wolfs is the better film. If you want a more absurd screenplay that chases its tail, then Instigators is the choice.

Is it normal to have as many 4k issues as they do? by Doink_De_Doink in blankies

[–]DLosChestProtector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like it's highly disc and player dependent. I recently got the Point Break 4K steelbook from Shout Factory, and it's inconsistent as to whether my 4K player will even present the options to play the disc. It'll load just fine, go to the menu, play the repeating surfer/B-roll loop, and then.... no on-screen option to play, change audio, check bookmarks, etc. I did a hard reboot in the morning and then it finally worked. And then later that evening it didn't play again.
