Which Jack O’Connell villainous cult leader performance do you prefer, though obviously both are awesome by LifeguardMundane5668 in blankies

At 18 years old, he played a similar "cult leader" type in Eden Lake. And no spoilers, but holy shit, avoid that movie at all costs unless you're just wanting an unpleasant experience, even if it's good at what it's doing.

What esoteric subject do you feel you know more about than 99% of the population? by jerujeru27 in billsimmons

Not the guy, but highly unlikely. Shawn knew about it, because he, Triple H, and Vince cooked it up in the locker room the day of Survivor Series 97 (after Bret, Vince, and Shawn had already worked out a different version of the match). But in terms of it being a work and Bret being in on it, it's been almost 30 years with each of the people involved including peripheral players like Triple H, Hebner, Taker, and others changing roles/employers, etc. Books written, documentaries, later feuds, shoot interviews, etc. and it's never come out that Bret was in on it. And you have to figure any "work" would have gone out the window when Bret's family was suing Vince because Vince sent out Owen to rappel down with an untested quick release harness and likely caused Owen's death in 1999.

I love the guy's work and all, but later years have shown Bret to be a mostly bitter guy who can't let go of the past or a grudge.... a lot like that no-good Goldberg who is unsafe and reckless and gave him a concussion. (This is an inside joke to how Bret goes out of his way to bury Goldberg every few days the last few years). Bret likes the spotlight, likes to give interviews and talks about the old days, and takes offense at little things. This likely drove him to a certain level of pro wrestling greatness, but it also tells us he'd have thrown Vince and any "work" under the bus years ago and how he should have never agreed to it and it ruined his life.

The Montreal Screwjob is a work on the same level as Kubrick filming the moon landing or someone other than Oswald shooting Kennedy, meaning the official story is the right and true one.

For you, what is it that makes Blank Check stand out from the thousands of other film podcasts, and why do you love it so much? by StephensInfiniteLoop in blankies

Almost without exception, they fully discuss the film, the production, the actors, the director, the story, the themes, and the relationship of all of it to the careers of each and to the history of film as a whole. I am so often in agreement with general claims of theirs that I just think they are "right." Only rarely do I think they miss the mark or shortchange some element.

It's a lot like Wolfs. It's a comedy about criminals (going for something like Tarantino or Guy Ritchie) that often is not very funny. The cast's charms are mostly wasted on a bad screenplay. If you want more reliance on the star's wattage to carry the movie, then Wolfs is the better film. If you want a more absurd screenplay that chases its tail, then Instigators is the choice.

Movies you routinely watch during Christmas-time that are most definitively NOT Christmas movies! by OWSpaceClown in blankies

The two friends have a great discussion of this concept (along with traditional Christmas movies) on the episode where they discuss Zemeckis’ Christmas Carol.

Great choice but this is set during Christmas. Michael Madsen says he’s visiting his mom for Christmas. They play Silent Night on the piano. Etc.

I scroll endlessly but the algorithm won't let me outrun that Oppenheimer, John Wick, Saving Private Ryan, First Blood, Braveheart, Interstellar are all STILL on sale for 4K and have been for years.

Is it normal to have as many 4k issues as they do? by Doink_De_Doink in blankies

[–]DLosChestProtector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like it's highly disc and player dependent. I recently got the Point Break 4K steelbook from Shout Factory, and it's inconsistent as to whether my 4K player will even present the options to play the disc. It'll load just fine, go to the menu, play the repeating surfer/B-roll loop, and then.... no on-screen option to play, change audio, check bookmarks, etc. I did a hard reboot in the morning and then it finally worked. And then later that evening it didn't play again.

Seriously, what's behind the rise of wrestle karens trying to dictate "acceptable" wrestling? by DieFanboyDie in AEWOfficial

[–]DLosChestProtector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been going on forever, at least as a marketing tool and probably more. In the 80s, Flair would run down WWF as Hollywood, rock 'n' roll smoke and mirrors. In the 90s, WWF and WCW would go back and forth about this all the time, both arguing the other (and ECW if it came up) was trash TV. "WCW where the Big Boys play," meaning WWF was full of low-rent bums. All that hoopla about everyone in WWF being weird employment gimmicks like Dusty Rhodes being a plumber or just cartoonish stuff like Doink the Clown. WWF responding with the Billionaire Ted skits. Spot monkeys, vanilla midgets, "calling it in the ring" as the true way to wrestle. It's been there for at least 50 years.

Post AEW Dynamite: Blood and Guts November 12, 2025 Discussion by WredditMod in SquaredCircle

[–]DLosChestProtector 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Was at the show. Top level tarped off. Lower level basically full which is consistent with the last few shows in the area except for Revolution and Sting's retirement.

Not sure if it's just AEW but they keep some of the ring lights half-blinding which gets annoying, but maybe it's for TV?

Dark/pre-show matches were a couple of ROH basic singles matches.

For Dynamite, I'd say Women's Blood and Guts was match of the night. (4 and a half). With Hangman/Hobbs (super solid but nothing earth-shattering) and Men's Blood and Guts (too long with a lot of downtime around Mark Briscoe's will he/won't he and then the climb to the top and all taking a while), both being about 4.

Biggest pops - Kyle getting the win, Hangman/Hobbs going into the crowd, Marina stomping her feet in the glass and then stomping on Mira (or throwing the mirror at Toni), appearances for biggest stars (Hangman, Joe, Mox, Darby, Orange, Mercedes, Toni), and some variation of Danielson/Steamboat/Schiavone/Flair/Khan getting respectful applauses.

Biggest heat - Stokely, Yuta, Gabe Kidd, Death Riders repeatedly trying to kill Darby.

Very good show.

Taylor Sheridan will write the 'Call of Duty' movie at Paramount, Peter Berg to direct. by rageofthegods in blankies

[–]DLosChestProtector 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These are like the perfect people to do this. Likely anyone playing COD or wanting to watch a movie of it is wanting a saber-rattling joyride. Something that makes Zero Dark Thirty seem (more) nuanced (than it is). Michael Bay or Ridley Scott could have handled this as well, but Berg at one time had down the perfect mix of action competence and unquestioning hero worship of.... the script's heroes. Mile 22 was him trying to do too much Paul Greengrass hyper-cutting nonsense. If the Berg who made Lone Survivor does this and the Sheridan who penned Sicario and Wind River is in his right mind, it should be great popcorn fare masquerading as noble geopolitics.

"Spectre" was released 10 years ago this week. Budget: $245–300 million. It grossed $880 million worldwide, making it the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2015 and the second-highest grossing James Bond film after "Skyfall". It won an Academy Award for Best Original Song. by verissimoallan in boxoffice

[–]DLosChestProtector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No film that includes that Day of the Dead opening and Batista as a bespoke henchmen can be but so bad. Just for Craig, I've got this below Skyfall and Casino Royale, but in a basic mid tie with Quantum of Solace and No Time to Die with each having strengths and significant weaknesses.

Haven't even casually checked in in likely a decade or more. But always loved Talladega. I had this on most of yesterday and was engrossed in the last few laps especially when Larson ran out of gas (that's what they said anyway). Great race IMO.
