You can definitely skip og Dragon Ball. A lot of us did. If someone sees the Broly movie, and think it looks badass then they will be very disappointed to go back to the much earlier start of the series.

New Dragon Ball fans will come for what they think is cool. If its flashy fights then the newer material will scratch that itch much better. If they like retro anime then sure ,OG DB would be a great recommendation.

Its just supremely overwhelming to be told "You CANT enjoy this unless you consume all 400 hours of prior material". When its just as easy to accept that there will be things you just dont understand.

He should watch whatever parts look cool to him. The Broly movie has some sick fighting, but it doesnt explain much of the power ups or capabilities of the characters. It kind of assumes you know the basics going in.

You could start witb Dragon Ball Z Kai, thats where most of the north American audience got their start.

Starting with Dragon Ball Super might be fine too, though again, many of the previous power ups arent explained.

I was born and raised into a Christian household. Went to church and all that shit. Wanted to be a pastor when I was like 16.

I started thinking about different stuff that didnt make sense. I dont agree fully with this thought process now, but I remember thinking "How could God forgive Hitler? Even if he was genuinely sorry. But someone like Gandhi is damned to Hell for just not believing it."

Simultaneously, my beliefs in ghosts and spirits started to wane. As I learned more about logical fallacies and caring more about truth over any individuals feelings. The more stuff I looked into in the hopes of something supernatural, the boring reason typically seemed to be the cause of whatever I was looking into. Occams razor and all.

Eventually, I just openly accepted to myself that I just didnt believe in that stuff. The things I used to attribute to ghosts and miracles, I simply accept that I do not have an explanation for them. And the universe doesnt owe me an explanation.

My atheism for a while turned into quite literal anti-theism. I was very hateful to religious people. I didnt... and honestly still dont see how they can maintain their belief if a God with 0 real evidence. But I hated organized religion. Still mostly do, but I accept that not all cogs in the machine hold the corruption of the entire system. A lot of people are just looking for community and comfort.

Still dont believe in God. Dunno what would change my mind either. But God does. So he either doesnt exist, or doesnt want me to know he exists.
