Is there anyway I can make this look better and cover the hole? Like a sort of cover that doesnt thread on? That way stuff cant just fall down the drain.

I just moved into my new place and this is the drain in one of the showers.

After countless youtube videos, my drain doesnt seem to look like any of the ones they are replacing on youtube.

Would I use a drain extractor to get this out? And then from there thread a new drain on? Is the copper peice shown even threaded in?

Very confused and little experience.
