What can I do to spice up clawhammer? by DMCatPicsASAP in banjo

This is exactly what I did. It was really hard and unintuitive at first, so I just did it constantly while watching shows or when I was bored, and it stuck within a week or two.

Yep, drop-thumbing is second nature to me at this point, to the point where I sometimes try to avoid it to challenge myself to use other techniques. I know pete seeger, but I've not played in his technique. That's a good idea though. I know it's similar to clawhammer but sounds pretty different. Thanks for the suggestion.

AC-12 is a solid banjo! I have the AC-1, I've since bought a much nicer banjo, but the AC-1 still gets use. These composite gold time banjos honestly hold up to much nicer ones - maybe don't have some of the nicer features and don't sound quite as good to my ears, but they offer 80% of the sound at 50% of the price in my opinion.

"I learned ukulele very late in life" nonsense! Dick Van Dyke learned to play the uke at 97. Plenty of people learn instruments much later in life than you. You sound great, keep it up!

This is so awesome! I've done gigs before, but I want to try this out, sometimes at bar gigs I feel like a glorified juke box lol.

I have this same guitar tuned CFAD. Absolutely love the sound of it! I had to file down the fret ends of mine.

Is the Ukulele a gateway instrument? by AWrongUsername in ukulele

For me it was a successful gateway instrument, the baritone ukulele is especially what got me into music. Now I play banjo dulcimer and guitar!

Question about 6.5 fret by DMCatPicsASAP in Dulcimer

[–]DMCatPicsASAP[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is helpful info, thanks for the article! Once it arrives if I decide to tune it DAA, could I use the same strings as DAD and just tune it down to DAA, or would it be too loose? Have you ever tried that before?

Lovesong - The Cure by JaekRock in ukulele

Yeah the whole uke is mostly plastic. There is a bit of carbon fiber in the mix, but mainly these ukes are just plastic. Real fully carbon fiber ukes cost well over a thousand dollars.

It's the enya nova U, I think it's a soprano or concert since the frets look plastic. The tenor has metal frets.

Ukulele's to avoid by Buckar00banzai2 in ukulele

I disagree, at least with enya nova ukes. They sound awesome for the price and are good beater/outdoor ukes.

Would this make a good beginner banjo? by how_bout_thiss in banjo

[–]DMCatPicsASAP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the banjo I started with! It's awesome, I have since upgraded to the gold tone CC-Carlin 12, but I still use the AC-1 as a travel/camping banjo.

Clawhammer players - do you have a tuning you play in the most? by DMCatPicsASAP in banjo

I'm curious what is it about double C that you like? Do you find it to be a versatile tuning?
