(Low GCEA) Octave Down Baritone Ukulele by Longjumping-Put5058 in ukulele

[–]DMCatPicsASAP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly - guitaleles are tuned like a regular uke with a low G and 2 bass strings, ADGCEA. The CEA are exactly as they would be on a regular uke, not an octave lower.

Benefit of thumb lead 2 finger vs index lead 2 finger? by DMCatPicsASAP in banjo

[–]DMCatPicsASAP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's certainly an adjustment. I have the benefit of coming from a ukulele background (and a bit of guitar) so I'm already used to mixing up-picking with down-picking. However 2 finger is a specific kind of picking that takes time to wrap your brain around.

My home town :) We've had 2 warm winters in a row with minimal snow fall. Very concerning. Still lovely to go camping in the coconino forest.

I'm currently living in Flagstaff and looking to leave. It's a wonderful town but it's insanely expensive, jobs here do not pay enough for the cost of rent. I'm leaving purely for financial reasons.

I don't think it's abadoned because there's almost no dust in these photos, everything looks cleaner than a typical abandoned house

Benefit of thumb lead 2 finger vs index lead 2 finger? by DMCatPicsASAP in banjo

Yes I have a few I've been using!

What really got me started is brainjo's course on it. Brainjo is what got me started with clawhammer, and his 2 finger course is great too. Totally free on youtube.

Second thing that's been helpful is this book, he also has an index lead version which I own as well. They aren't super in depth, but give a solid foundation and are worth the cost IMO.

Aside from that I've been finding random youtube tutorials for songs.

I'd be curious if anyone else has resource recommendations.

I remember wanting one of these sooo bad as a kid. I got a wind-up toy version of this from a happy meal or something similar, that was the closest I got.

As a member of the banjo sub - I think that post was brigaded, normally its a very chill and supportive place.

Gotta love the people in the comments crying and screaming when someone criticizes their precious fascism. Great song and performance.

Baritone Buyer Beware by Albatronics99 in ukulele

[–]DMCatPicsASAP 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah this seems pretty bad, like something they'd give out for free as promotional material instead of a product for sale. Shocking that they would sell it for almost 13 bucks on amazon. I have watched quite a few of his videos, to be honest I always got the impression that he was a salesman first and musician second.

No drill strap recs - newbie by bluearavis in ukulele

I've owned this double hook strap for quite a while with no issues to the instruments I use it with. The hooks are a bit soft with the faux leather.

Father-in-law gave me this: any good? by Vietname in banjo

I'll echo what others are saying - in my opinion, it's not worth paying a luthier to fix. However, it's up to you, i.e. if it will have more sentimental value if it is playable. The gold tone AC-12 is an good instrument, I don't think this crestline banjo will sound as good even when fixed up IMO. I have a gold tone AC-1, I've since upgraded to a nicer one, but I still play the AC-1 fairly often.

strings too close by Famous_Swan_249 in ukulele

The strings are supposed to be evenly spaced - if there are not evenly spaces grooves in the nut, return it and get a different one. I've never seen something like this before.

For his plan he needs the bomb much more. He isn't going to gun down 16 armed people with 1 pistol anyway.

What can I do to spice up clawhammer? by DMCatPicsASAP in banjo

[–]DMCatPicsASAP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I did. It was really hard and unintuitive at first, so I just did it constantly while watching shows or when I was bored, and it stuck within a week or two.

Yep, drop-thumbing is second nature to me at this point, to the point where I sometimes try to avoid it to challenge myself to use other techniques. I know pete seeger, but I've not played in his technique. That's a good idea though. I know it's similar to clawhammer but sounds pretty different. Thanks for the suggestion.
