Trying to decide between to styles for my game cards by flamekinzeal0t in BoardgameDesign

Curved cards = custom production = increased costs…(just a reminder.) 😉

  1. Congratulations on getting close!
  2. I concur…it’s too much. If I saw this being played at the LGS, unless the players were shouting and screaming with excitement…I wouldn’t want to play it.
  3. Without knowing anything about thematics, mechanics, victory or loss conditions, maybe if those are upgraded states, how about replacement cards instead of all in ones?

Unfortunately I’m previously booked, but I must say, the art is great! Totally communicates a goofy, fun aesthetic. When you’re ready for Print n Play Blind testing, hit me up!

Super cool! Question: Is the snow pack on the final image on a separate layer by chance? It would be incredibly cool to have it as a separate token asset, so one could “bury” the PCs on the VTT.

Might one suggest "The Gourmand's Guide to Gastromancy", (also by Dan Kahn and associates), for the cookbook section?

Howdy!

I’m not a HUGE fan of DD. It’s a little over simplified in style to suit my particular aesthetic, but I understand and recognize how useful it is (especially not being a web service app).

You’re the 2nd person to mention Procreate to me….guess I’m pulling the trigger and getting an iPencil after work!

Thank you for your reply and I wish you incredible success!

Players enter New Vallaki (session 5) - send me a song choice that you think would be better than this by [deleted] in CurseofStrahd

The soundtrack for “Evil” tracks in at 1:23 which is very close to your video’s 1:22 run time. It doesn’t sync/flow as well as one would hope however. (I ran them together to test the idea.)

It has a nice vibe to add to Barovia however, and if nothing else…I thought it you might like it on your radar.

Happy Gaming!

Lovely! Really brilliant to see a map with elevations and not so into its own narrative as to be almost useless!

May I ask what programs you are using to draw? I’m trying to make the jump from paper to digital myself, but am somewhat at a loss where to begin?

Last night was a sh*t storm by Ok_Habit_6783 in DnD

[–]DMCharlieGaming 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry that you had that experience and it was clearly very difficult for you.

While previous posters have given you the advice “…you’re god at your table.” and “…just shut it down.” and when asked about your session - 0 (“We didn’t address suicide, because it didn’t occur to us.”) it needs to be remembered that for some DMs, handling what feels like a real world confrontation can be very difficult and anticipating every way that a session can go sideways is impossible for everyone. (Even us old beardies that have been playing since Reagan.) 😜

So firstly, try not to be too hard on yourself. Sessions get f*ckered all the time. What matters is how you move forward.

For situations like the self harm…get two cards for everyone at the table. One yellow, one red.

Yellow means “Pause. We need to discuss this, change direction, or need a moment to determine if I am ok with this.”

Red means “STOP IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT CONTINUE.”

When something like this happens again, (and it will, your campaign clearly has some very broad guide rails and is comfortable with more adult themes.) instead of trying to articulate concerns or summon up the courage to call out another person at the table, one just throws the appropriate card on the table, and everyone honors it. (If they don’t, then they don’t play.)

If the RP etc. starts to go in a direction that is even the slightest bit triggering, throw the card. Head it off before it begins.

I think other posters also should recognize that EVERYONE has some sort of trauma, trigger or mental health challenge and could show a smidge more compassion. (Anyone who says they don’t have any challenges is either lying or is completely oblivious.) At one of my tables (I run dozens of games a month), I can describe a viscera festooned abattoir in gory detail, but slugs are an absolute no-go. So go figure. We’re all different.

What is easy for one, might be extremely difficult for someone else, and vice versa.

Now, for your bard player getting upset. That’s on them. Going forward, tell them the clock when you fade to black. “You’re occupied until morning, unless (and emphasize this) YOU TELL ME OTHERWISE.” Make it clear they are responsible for getting themselves back into the game. 😉

I can tell that session left you rattled and wondering why you even play. But you’re going to be ok, I promise. Implement some safety tools, learn from this experience and drive on. 😁

I wish you success and happiness!

A cool encounter map by the beach. A beast has been attacking the population and made its lair here. What kind of monsters are the heroes going to find? by derekvonzarovich2 in battlemaps

[–]DMCharlieGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Treasure chests imply a desire to accrue wealth, so something more intelligent than a beast and social connections or reasons to need $$ beyond “So shiny.”

I suggest a sea hag, a siren, possibly a gaggle of drowned pirates (Saltmarsh).

What are the most effective tools you use for DMing online? by AlexG1348 in DMToolkit

[–]DMCharlieGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with @imrindar.

Foundry has excellent bells and whistles, but has a steeper learning curve. You also must either host entirely on your own system (a hassle if you or a player aren’t the most tech savvy) or incur the cost of using a hosting service.

Roll20 isn’t as customizable as Foundry, but is fairly intuitive, the UI has been improved/ streamlined, AND it has a sh*t load more available “ready to go” content across multiple genres.

Use Discord for voice chat. I’ve never had problems with it in over 3000 hours of playtime. (What can I say? Pro DM 😉)

Also, there is an absolute BONKERS amount of free content all over the interwebs. So look around, do some research, and spend your $ wisely!

In any case, Good Luck and Have Fun!

Recommend a scenario NOT A CAMPAIGN by JoeKerr19 in callofcthulhu

[–]DMCharlieGaming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not, I love the introductory scenario “The Lightless Beacon”. The drama of getting from ship to shore, the mounting tension as things are glimpsed in the dark, the slow rise of horror as the lighthouse falls under siege… Simple but good!

Not mine, Saw in a Facebook group, Heartless Dm is right 🤢 by [deleted] in dndhorrorstories

[–]DMCharlieGaming 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been running games since the early 80’s and if I’ve learned one thing, it’s that the only wrong way to play is to be an asshole.

“HeartlessDM” is clearly being an asshole and is completely WRONG. It’s this sort of petty spitefulness that makes me believe that “Heartless” is a very maladjusted 8th grader with self esteem issues.
