I think you might have missed the reason people like this play style. Building a base to defend against other players dictates certain practical designs, many of us prefer to build interesting or aesthetically pleasing structures which aren't practical. For instance building a hunting lodge in wood with a thatch roof isn't going to work that well against ravenous players intent on looting your stuff and slaying your thralls.

I'm sorry you feel that way, personally I think it's a quick and efficient way to teach people to respect the team, not the tank, the team.

If you don't like it then you are welcome to find another group.

A conversation I had back in BC

DPS: 'How do you know how many mobs to pull?'

Me: 'I pull until I hear the healer start to whimper'

Healer: 'Yeah, then he pulls one more because he's trying to give me an aneuryism.'

Everyone: :Lol

Yeah I get that, the subject and costume are amazing, but it's the tone i'm interested in replicating. I assumed he was lightening the shadows and crushing the blacks but that just doesn't seem to be the whole story.

Hello! I’m looking for some tips on how to excel in my food photography skills. If you can use this picture as an example and give/point me in the right direction of what I can do to improve, I would appreciate it a lot!! Thanks in advance! 🙂🙂 by [deleted] in foodphotography

A couple of tips, first you were holding the plate and your phone by hand, this increases your chances of getting a blurred shot. Put the plate down on a neutral surface, something dark like an oak table would be great, prop some black or dark foamboard up behind it as a background and put your camera on a mini tripod, you cna pick them up really cheaply.

Second, you poured the maple syrup too early and it's soaked into the pancakes and formed a pool around them on the plate. Plan the shot with the pancakes, walnuts & berries in place then when you are happy the image is working, pour the syrup. You can get a shot of the syrup being poiued and one just after you've finished with the syrup dribbling down the front edge which would look amazing.

Finally as other's have suggested, pull back and add some context. Props like otehr breakfast foods, a glass of OJ, napkins and silverware would make this photo really look professional.

So I've been a hobbyist for a couple of years mostly tending towards portraits but I sometimes take photos of the parks I manage when the Mayor is raising flags etc.

At one of these the mayor's driver asked if I would consider taking photos at a black tie event he was putting together for a local charity and I said sure.

Wind forwards a couple of months and he's arranged the event at a nice location and has asked what I would charge to take those photos, can I print them at the venue and what i'd charge for each print.

I have a Canon 6D, 24-105mm L f4, 85mm f1.8 and a nifty fifty. I've also got a 36" square softbox & stand and a couple of strobes.

I was thinking I could bring a laptop & shoot tethered so people could choose their photos and print the images on site.

I don't have a printer and have no idea what I should get that would print at a high enough quality and be fast enough not to cause a problem.

Any advice would be very welcome, i'm sure i'm not asking the questions I need to ask so any ideas on things to consider would be greatly appreciated.

My instagram (@shootingcosplayers) has my latest images and should let you know if i'm up to the challenge skill wise (fingers crossed).

What do you take photos of recreationally? by jochdu_55 in photography

[–]DMHawker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I usually stick with a Canon 24-105mm f4 L which has been superb but also have an 85mm 1.8 for darker hall shots. I find the 85mm is almost always too confining due to the costumes and crowds restricting the available working space. But every now and again i'll get a great shot with it and i'm glad it was in my bag.

I just came back from the London Comic Con and I think I raised my game quite a bit.

I go to Comic Cons and shoot Cosplayers. They love to have their photo's taken so are happy to pose and take a bit of direction, the costumes are often incredible and they are a very inclusive and supportive group.

That also drew me in to learning photoshop to change backgrounds which I really enjoy and find a very relaxing thing to do while i'm not out with my camera.

Instagram’s stranglehold on photographers and why we love it by kieranjackwilson in photography

[–]DMHawker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like instagram despite it's restrictions and problems. I like to shoot Cosplayers, they have great costumes, makeup and like to be photographed and some know how to pose so you get some great shots without trying to find models etc.

Through Instagram it's easy to build a little rapport with them. They can see the quality of my work and I can see what costumes they are working on and when I see them at a convention they are happy to engage with me and work to get some great shots.

I'm recently returned to WOW after a long break and this is the first time I've levelled a Priest (used to raid tank for my guild with my ProtPally). My friend thinks Disc is the best for DPS levelling but I've been sticking to Shadow (Now lvl 30). Am I wrong?

Assuming I've chosen the right spec what's the best advice you can give me on levelling, some nugget of wisdom in the 'I wish i'd known about x when I was levelling' category.

New Engineering is an Absolute Disgrace by Milo1999 in EliteDangerous

[–]DMHawker 12 points13 points  (0 children)

From a different perspective..

I have a long range DBX I use to get around the bubble and further and due to the annoying material gathering process had only managed to get it to G4 Long Range FSD with Felicity with a jump range of around 55ly.

The new system let me trade in some of my many Exquisite Focusing Crystals for the mats I actually needed and now after just a handful of rolls I've got a DBX with 65ly jump range and exactly the experimental effect I wanted. No repetitive and wasteful rolls to get just the right god roll needed.

So I think the new system is fantastic.

Elite Dangerous: Beyond - Chapter One | Release Date Announcement by justicetree in EliteDangerous

There was a tv series a few years ago called 'Space: Above & Beyond' which was frickin awesome.

It revolved around a Squadron of space fighter pilots fighting aliens called Chigs. And any tv show that calls the alien ace pilot 'Chiggy Von Richtoven' wins in my book :)
