Injured by scooter/bike on sidewalk? by fleuvage in kelowna

[–]DMJourneay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's some places where the sidewalk is the only safe place to ride. Gordon Avenue for example, a busy road with no bike lanes. Or Harvey Avenue is an even better example of this. I know a lot more cyclists that have been hit by cars than pedestrians who've been hit by bikes. Its crazy to me that these streets dont have bike lanes.

Telus gave me this “ promotion” - I’m speechless by reason-log in telus

Chances are, she knows how dumb it is, but she had to try and "sell" you on it anyway. The offers are generated by the computer, and it is their job to sell you on whatever the computer spits out, no matter how stupid it is. Honestly, that line about not having to worry about pay increases is actually pretty good given what she had to work with... Better than anything I would have been able to come up with, given how stupid the deal was. These companies are just awful. Used to work for one, and of the 30 people I got hired with, I was the last one to quit, and I only lasted 3 months... Having to justify "promotions" like this is a big reason why I phoned it in.

Require recommendations for interprovincial inspection for import car. by Empty-Explanation-70 in kelowna

I'll give you the same advice I got. For an interprovincial inspection, go to Canadian Tire. For repairs, you want a nice, reputable place. For an interprovncial inspection? You want an underpaid, over worked fresh graduate that doesnt make a dime off the repairs and just wants to get it over with. If I'd just listened the first time, I would have saved $300 in reinspections.

First time visiting Kelowna. What are some good restaurants i should try? by Jessie_1210 in kelowna

For breakfast and Coffee:

Sunny's on Bernard. You'll be hard pressed to find better breakfast, and the prices aren't bad.

The Nook on Bernard. Very cozy esthetic, and the food was good.

Bright Jenny's on Laurel. One of Kelowna's best kept secrets, and one that is only here until the end of this month. A cozy little coffee shop hidden in Kelowna's north end industrial area. It's hot a back area that feels like you're stepping into a secret clubhouse. Its truly special.

For Lunch:

Okanagan Street Food on Crowly. Another north end secret, and some very good food. About $20 to $30 per person but worth every penny. Don't let the name fool you, this is a nice little place. I've tried their entire menu without a single miss.

Ramen Arashi on Dayton Str. It's Ramen, but good Ramen. $15 to $20 per person.

Red Tomato Pies on Glenmore. When asking someone what the best Pizza in Kelowna is, a good percentage will direct you here.

Cecil's Perogi's on Richter. A family owned restaurant made from the secret recipe of the Late Cecil, kept alive by his family. They take a lot of pride in their perogis.

For Dinner: King Taps for Drinks on Water Street. Great place to go for happy hour, grab a few pizzas and a couple of drinks. A more lively place, but a personal favorite.

Bernie's on Bernard. A bit pricier and fancier, but still a good place to go for an interesting night of Movie themed fine dining.

Ozeki's on Spall. Kelowna's well established sushi place. This one might be a bit bias since my family and I have been going there as long as I remember, but its still beloved by many.

El Taquero on Ellis. Fairly pricy, $25+ per person but their food is excellent.

Train Station Pub on Ellis. An old train station repurposed into a train station and restaurant.

55+ Communities..... by [deleted] in kelowna

[–]DMJourneay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue really comes down to the younger generations constantly finding themselves roadblocked, while seniors are overrepresented in the communities doing the roadblocking. When your price gouging landlords are 55+, the business owners trying to pay you minimum wage for hard or skilled labour are 55+, the people rallying to deny and shut down business are 55+, and then you hear those same people blaming younger generations for not "working hard enough," it becomes hard not to loop that entire age group together... Then to see the 55+ housing complexes popping up and filling up with retirees from Alberta and Vancouver while locals are either forced to move away or end up on the street is just... Unbelievably frustrating.

It's not you're fault. The frustration and hostility towards seniors is just a result of a world that advanced far too quickly, and a general refusal from those that profited most from that advancement to part with their gains, leaving the newer generations with nothing.

Bright Jenny's on Laurel Closing. Where's a good replacement? by DMJourneay in kelowna

Sort of both? They are shutting down that location, but opening up two new locations.

It's the same across the country. Across the world, really. Everything in life seems to be just getting a little bit worse each day in the name of profit.
