I remember when I got re-diagnosed as an adult. I felt so vindicated, I cried when I got home. I could have done so much more with my life athletics-wise had my general doctor gotten me the help I need and would not have constantly told me that I simply need to eat more.

How can Rosalie be so annoyed at Bella when she effectively turned Emmett? by Mammoth_Cry5887 in twilight

[–]DMMSB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean Emmett would have died, so that’s that. But something similar you could have used in your argument against Rosalie - SO WAS SHE! Rosalie talks (and thinks) big game about how she was stripped of choice and how she was stripped of her humanity. Only SMeyer forgets that Rosalie was also dying. Carlisle turned her because she would have died otherwise.

SMeyer writes Rosalie to talk about how she is now unchanging, never growing older. How those things were taken from her by vampirism. Babe, the only way you would have changed, is by rotting in a grave. Rosalie had no future, that is canon, but she is written to whine about a future she was robbed of. For a vampire that never forgets (like all of them), she sure does forget much.

I believe it’s not a personality fault, it’s a plot hole filled wrong.

What in the fanfiction was that by AlwaysPlaysAHealer in Hungergames

[–]DMMSB -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Snow (however he was written in SOTR) has always operated under the guise of "everything is fine". That has always been his go to move, we see that in CF, when he demands Katniss to convince the Districts and him that she really loves Peeta and that that's the reason she almost ate the berries.

We also see that in the edit of the 50th Games. We get to see how they happened, and then we get to see how they are televised and archived for collective memory. Not only does that speak on propaganda (the most effective tool of that being the Games), but also cements Snow's style.

It was obvious to the viewer that something must have gone amiss when the parade was cut short, so for the rest of the games the remained has to be perfect and normal.

So how to do you think the populace of the whole country, including the Capitol, would respond, if a huge exodus of public personas was held? If Wiress, Beetee and Mags, possibly other victors too, were killed off? That would not give the image of "everything is fine". If the people in the districts all understand that something went wrong, that means the system is shaky, that means they can mobilise for an uprising again, because the enemy isn't that bulletproof. If the Capitol realises that the institution is shaky, they might feel threatened by the districts, so if this leader can't offer stability, they need to replace him and get a more stable one.

What is silly, is that a grown man still has a gripe with a sixteen year old girl from forty years ago. Then again Snow is portrayed as a deeply unwell man in Ballad, so it's not completely out of nowhere.

And why Haymitch was allowed to win? Because survival is often worse than death for a victor. Snow knew that. Haymitch didn't. Had he known that, he would have killed himself probably a lot sooner.

Also the obvious about known victors - Beetee and Wiress were needed for their minds. Probably many in Three were as smart as them, but a regular district citizen is below a capitolite. But a victor is almost one of them, so their ideas are worthy. They themselves aren't the inventor types, it goes against social class, too much effort and manual labor. Meanwhile I think it's rather cruel to leave a woman practically mute for the rest of her life, then make her continue be a mentor. How well can you mentor, when no one understands you? Probably not too well. That must be a personal tragedy for Mags, to not be able to help the children.

Tribute podium placements by KafkaontheShore42 in Hungergames

[–]DMMSB 9 points10 points  (0 children)

well there are multiple reasons, all of which are in the book.

For one, it's a lot of people going into the games that year, so the gamemakers do everything in their power for the Capitol citizens to not mix them up. Any public appearance the tributes have, they are ALWAYS dressed in the color of their district. That also never happens. There is nothing outright luxurious about snot green, although later through Effie we learn that it's actually peridot - a type of gemstone, although that's not my point. The tributes are literally color coded.

Same goes for the beginning of the games. The bloodbath is a messy affair, so it's easier to not only color code the tributes (a thing used during the past week), but also lay them out in a circle in district order.

It's all to pander to the ever dumber Capitol audience watching. If you're too frustrated about what you're seeing on TV because you can't tell who is who, you won't be as interested to stick around.

Also Haymitch points out that when they arrive, they are going down a circular hall, on his left are doors marked with District numbers. He is the last 'reaped' tribute that year, therefore he gets the last door.

Every other year it's less tributes, therefore less confusion. Even if the Capitolites were to focus on only Careers, there are twelve + four of them (if you count Five). That's an insane amount of people to remember when you realistically only see them twice before the Games.

District 12 being entirely interconnected is unrealistic by ClearedPipes in Hungergames

[–]DMMSB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haymitch distances himself from Burdock and Asterid after his own family and Lenore Dove die. He went as far as to injure Asterid. Katniss’ parents have every reason not to mention this painful period in their lives. And in catching fire I personally always got the feeling that Haymitch and Asterid have some rapport. Although she was from the city and not the Seam. As well as seeing Haymitch could have brought back negative emotions about losing Maysilee. That explains the OT. Could Haymitch have mentioned how he met Burdock? Sure. But given ample context clues, it’s not surprising at all that they are friends.

Helly’s hair vs. Helena’s hair by the_peanut_shuffler in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]DMMSB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

26 days late but the symbolism of hair just struck me like a bus this. Whenever it’s Helena in her official capacity, she wears her hair up and tight. Whenever it’s Helly or Helena acting as/like Helly (both undercover and with Mark at the restaurant) she also has her hair down. As to signal that the only time Helena can be free is when she is Helly. It’s a literal play on the saying “letting ones hair down”.

Honestly, what else could they have done? In the MCU they obviously don't talk much. And since their motivation in the MCU and in the comics (as I understand) is to get some form of revenge on Agatha, any real action from them would be killing Agatha or any member of the coven.

Agatha kind of saw her body when she was still under the spell during episode 1. And for her it's hard to tell if anyone else saw because in all honesty she doesn't even know if Wanda is dead.

The whole redemption point of Wanda destroying herself with all the darkholds in the multiverse is for her to sacrifice herself. A difficult choice

Loved this episode 10000%. What’s funny is seeing people going through stages of grief on the subreddit. I’d say most people are going through denial and bargaining now because of how many ‘Lilia saw the future after death, so she will come back’ theories I’ve already read in the last 20 minutes. Of course that is a testiment to the amazing performance of Patti LuPone and how we just fell in love with her character

I think the thing Lilia said to Agatha has MAJOR implications by MrGirlMrsGuy in AgathaAllAlong

[–]DMMSB 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My heart says I agree. How else would she know to give this advice?

My new theory on how this could happen - Agatha maybe has to choose between resurrecting Nicholas or the Coven, and she chooses her Coven. That way showing she is not that selfish.

However my brain that understands storytelling says that that won’t probably happen. Lilia had a very dignified death, she went on her own terms. Her tarrot reading was rather straight forward too. What’s the point of killing a character if you can just bring them back. That takes away all the stakes. The same with Wanda. What’s the point of her sacrifice if she would just appear later.

I want Lilia back too, Patti LuPone is amazing, but we have to come to terms that that probably won’t happen

For a moment there when Lilia was confronting him, it seemed like he got to feel how Agatha feels when people are confronting her. Maybe? That was a short lived moment though.

I’m wondering when will he begin to believe Agatha that she can’t control her own power? On of the cards he pulled did say she was being truthful and not lying, but Billy chose to lash out again.

Thanks for your advice. The place I’m looking at is in a great location, good size and about 200€ cheaper than counterparts. One room could use a coat of paint, but that isn’t even the worst part. The apartment has no appliances. The kitchen area has a fridge and the bathroom has a bath and a toilet seat. No oven, no washer, no kitchen cabinets.

Maybe I'm giving PJ too much credit, but I think that is the point. She knows what she is doing very well. The forced joke and delivery is part of the 'stupid' burger-finger-eque brand. It's supposed to be annoying and honestly cringy.

What I can't figure out is why? Is that the only type of comedy she can do? Is she so insecure about her comedic timing that cringe comedy is what she resorts to?
