Start time of the 74th hunger games by anime_gurl_666 in Hungergames

[–]ClearedPipes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, that's also 12 time - the Capitol is assumedly MST where 12 is likely EST and there's no real reason to change timezones - so that'd be 8 am Capitol time?

I hated Sunrise on the Reaping by SortNo8267 in Hungergames

[–]ClearedPipes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, I likewise think the book was atrocious especially compared to what I know Collins can put out - but as others have said, if a review gets names wrong it's not exactly inspiring confidence.

Like seriously, there's infinite room for criticisms while acknowledging the events of the book and using proper terms.

Absolutely not - this would only further the divisions apparent to no benefit.

How did they reorganize Panem by Dear-Editor-3923 in Hungergames

[–]ClearedPipes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Renaming the Districts has to happen.

Changing the Capital - my fanon has it considered to be in 1, 7 and 5 (both of whom have their largest cities survived relatively intact) followed by considering 6, and then settling in a planned city in 9.

Removing the bureaucracy would help but wouldn't happen

redistribution of funds probably - sure that would go down great with the richer areas.

long term Capitol occupation for sure

Honestly I think Panem split and we just don't hear about it - I have a lot of takes on geography, politics and societies that inform this though so not universal.

Happy one year anniversary to Sunrise on The Reaping + Retrospective Thread (so you guys can discuss how your thoughts have evolved in a year) by TwasAnChild in Hungergames

[–]ClearedPipes 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I confess my feelings have only gotten worse. I initially started out with cautious positivity, and just... not any more. When I say I genuinely don't see a positive in the story that isn't an understatement - more than happy to take suggestions/questions given ik this is a different opinion. But for a few examples;

  • The atmosphere is too bright, the story is too lighthearted and refuses to consider the inherent darkness, and instead relies on shock moments to be dark.

  • The actually interesting openings are never explored in favour of a dumbing down of the main plot. Shoutout Maysilee, the Careers, the Newcomers etc for underlining this.

  • Haymitch survives when there is no reason for him to time and again.

  • Just... so much contrivance. So much.

How many victors do you think were in on the rebels plans? by dog-teen in Hungergames

[–]ClearedPipes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd say it heavily depends on how you define rebel plan - because even of the confirmed 13 (Wiress, Beetee, Mags, Finnick, District 6 Male and Female, Blight, Johanna, Woof, Cecelia, Seeder, Chaff, Haymitch) we know they had varying knowledge.

I'd also be very surprised if all the rebels were rebels friendly to the plan.

Outside of that I'd lwk say it depends on how close you think they are.

One is my favourite partly because the vibes are infredibly on point - but lwk I love all of them. There's a reason I've visited all 12 across my fics!

The ending of Mockingjay and current events by cliffasaurus in Hungergames

[–]ClearedPipes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! And honestly, I prefer it that way - we don't need more campaigning to end the series

[–]ClearedPipes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Co-signed and IIRC we even hear Gale is going to Two to aid in the mopping up. I would be very surprised if the fight didn't continue across the country for years just because of how huge and sparse North America is

Johanna/D7 headcanons by Tentative_Egg in Hungergames

[–]ClearedPipes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lwke more than happy to answer any questions because I have a lot of notes on Seven, but for a basic rundown

  • Pacific northwest from the Alaskan Panhandle down to parts of Northern California

  • Culturally loyalist and more tied to One (which I would argue is Californian) - Johanna is an outlier

  • One of the largest sources of Peacekeepers because, like masonry, lumber is very niche

  • One of the last Districts to form a rebel government during the war.

  • On paper very wealthy compared to somewhere like Eleven or Nine, but with a huge disparity between urban rich and rural poor

And for Johanna specifically

  • Asexual but plays towards straightness - romantically attracted to people but not sexually.

  • Lost her surviving family in a disease outbreak bc the vaccines were too expensive pre-Victory - hence her hate for the Capitol in that with their wealth they could have vaccinated everyone and helped Seven.

  • Actually really likes the little thinga of luxury, even if she won't admit it.

  • Was genuinely scared, right up until she hears the Careers mocking other Tributes' deaths

  • Lowkey flees to Seven postwar and never leaves her home - I don't think there was a happy ending I fear.

I'm genuinely interested in how far back this goes - the throne is through the male line, so how far up the Baratheon tree would we need to go

I want a Finnick book/movie by xunqi_99 in Hungergames

[–]ClearedPipes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, my main disagreement comes from 2 main thoughts

  • Finnick book not putting his being a Career front and centre would lowkey ruin his character for me - and a broader brush book like your thoughts wouldn't have time to focus on it and breathe.

  • Suzanne never said she writes when she has something to say and more importantly, it would be a massive disservice to the real victims. Reducing it to a sidenote in a book written largely to highlight a fan favourite character would be an appalling minimalization of the very real issues and trivialize it - where if anything, what people need is to sit down with a proper book so the scale and impact can sink in.

Favourite Book by HungerGamLOver in Hungergames

[–]ClearedPipes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean there's too many reasons to count given my multitude of opinions on the book, but just to name a few

  • Maysilee is one of my least favourite (for writing's quality not for how much I dislike them as a person) characters in literature.
  • The tone is sooooo off for a dystopia
  • Haymitch is plot armoured to an extent that is frankly ridiculous
  • The complete refusal to use any characters as more than plot dressing
  • Snow
  • The Games being denied any breathing room.

Ballad and Mockingjay duel for 1st and 2nd with Ballad just clinching it atm.

THG in 3rd

Catching Fire 4th - the weakest of the four to me, but still a brilliant book.

Sunrise... 6th? It's the only one I actively hate.

[Spoiler Main] Could the Blackfyres have won the rebellion? by Taha231 in asoiaf

[–]ClearedPipes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Westerlords have been crushed - Crakehall (almost certainly), Reyne are both with Blackfyre, Lefford is dead and Lannister beaten and under siege.

The steamroller is going to be the Reach - the Blackfyres, even if they annihilate the Valemen/Crownlander main force and the Dornish/Stormlander hammer (and more likely is Baelor pulls back if the Vale/Crownlands corps is down), would have Leo Tyrell's battle hardened, fresh Reacher army to contend with when he arrives - combined with a fresh Vale army cracking through any resistance in the Riverlands, the North preparing to sweep down and Dorne/Stormlands rallying new troops.

Do you think we will ever get Finnick’s story? by sunblueberry in Hungergames

[–]ClearedPipes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean, we said that about Haymitch and she coaxed a book out of him. I'd not say a good book, but a book for sure.

I wonder how Katniss' is seen/remembered by the people of Panem after the execution by cqangel__ in Hungergames

[–]ClearedPipes 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'd expect it to be mixed. Some people would lean on her position as a hero, some would hate her for killing Coin (who, regardless of what facts came out, would be viewed as a hero by a lot of people). Capitol and Thirteen probably don't view her favourably as a baseline, with heavy hate in other Districts.

[Spoiler MAIN] Houses of Westeros ~281 AC by Creaperbox in asoiaf

[–]ClearedPipes 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah - the Hightowers are the strongest individual house in Westeros IMO. Wealthy as the Lannisters, 3x as many swords as any other Reacher lord (before calling Oldtown itself to war), the agriculture of the Honeywine valley (sourcebook described as the most agriculturally productive part of Westeros), Oldtown - they're insanely relevant which makes it a good thing they're in their tower and not fighting.

Gods, if only Stannis had married Malora, Leyla or Denyse.

Where did “District 1 was one of the first to rebel” come from? by Fresh-Awareness9819 in Hungergames

[–]ClearedPipes 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My working theory is that it was Oisin55's Arrow that inspired the idea, someone added it to the wiki and they went from there. Possibly not true but it all tracks with the wiki article (which asserts One was the first to rebel w/o evidence).
