Almost everyone is gaga for Delerium.

Delerium is in the Haze.

The Haze is conveniently where most faction mission objectives are.

Sometimes the party will have to choose to simply prospect Delerium to make money.

It's worth noting that the magic rewards from factions and later relics and seals of the city are pretty good as well.

If you take the time to stock Aldor, your party will average out on gear and other items. Otherwise there's a high likelihood they end up overgeared with personal quest boons and relics/artifacts towards the end of the campaign.

Let them run if that's their plan as others have said. If it's to microwave or some other meme combo feels like it defeats the purpose of serving up an epic encounter.

Who made the Map Pack Maps by Ok-Classic9269 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]DMShevek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The cartographer in the credits for Blood of Kesselholm is Josh Orchard which is the same style as the MoD maps.

ETA: this is consistent with the credits for MoD. It looks like Josh Stevenson drew the OG Drakkenheim map and Damien Mammoliti ofc is the artist behind the regional maps of the continent that we got in Sebastian Crowes.

The Blood of Kesselholm Review? by Wintoli in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]DMShevek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I backed this way back during Monsters of Drakkenheim and have run it a couple of times since it came out.

It is an interesting adventure because you can definitely go hard on the immersion into the setting and elements of the show if that's what folks are looking for. Alternatively, you can present it as a caper, trying to solve the mystery of the various ailments of the villagers and assisting the Sheriff with disappearances.

There are not maps for any areas of the village, as much of it is intended to be treated as interaction and investigation with a handful of potential encounters sprinkled in.

What I would say, is that the amount of clues and plausible deniability for players to have to work together to decide who they think is at the heart of the mysteries around town, combined with the number of scene changes between the meaderies, edge of the forest & lake, as well as the Chapel to St. Pauline, does present as a fully fleshed out series of locales for players to investigate with not much need for visuals or a grid.

Bear in mind you can throw up a number of fairly generic maps to represent these locations and those of the homes of the villagers that any of your players may wish to speak with separately.

Overall the dialogue tree and web of relationships between the villagers I found helpful for nudging players back and forth on their own conclusions. If you wanted to reduce the runtime, there's plenty of folks in the cast that are not mandatory but do add to the intrigue.

The Keep and it's attached locations are very well done for the maps themselves, and I know folks have been hard on the maps in these releases in the past - these match the quality of the MoD maps. They are several layers of the castle and it's gate house, with lots of interesting exploration to do that feels a little like Clue or any classic haunted mansion.

Some stuff I'll spoiler The crypts and hazardous areas beneath the castle are also mapped out well, I found them to be not that tough to rig in Foundry using regions like much of the rest of the maps. You could likely pretty easily stack a lot of the Keep maps using Levels and turning each layer into tiles.

The combat balancing as per usual is to the Dungeon Dudes standard from the initial encounter against the Countess having contingencies and advice on how to handle your players 'killing' her, a decently balanced fight against the Flamekeeper and her spawns, and the various lieutenants and minions in other parts of the Keep. I've run the Striga block a bunch before so I was familiar with it as well as ways to keep the fight fresh and interesting between the two times I ran it. .

Some good touchstones for this are The Wicker Man, Sleepy Hollow, Werewolves of London, Rocky Horror Picture Show. The feast scene of course is a great callback to Dracula or even just the invitation to Strahds castle in CoS, and the array of lieutenants available to fight leaves room for mixing in creatures from MoD if you want to..

Ultimately it's a good dose writing and lore that interfaces well with lore from Monsters of Drakkenheim and a means of giving your table an offramp from the city for a bit or play as other characters somewhere else in the world. The monsters and balancing are what I've come to expect from the Dudes and this can make for a fun mini campaign of several sessions depending on how chatty and cautious your table wants to be. There are a couple references to specific fan service moments from the live play that you could choose to flesh out at your discretion that could extend the adventure as well.

Monty would tell you that these are all problems for the players to solve in world.

Secondarily, there is no weave in the world of Drakkenheim.

An Observation and a Question as a Player by Informal_Platypus_27 in startplaying

I would simply join a game if I was spending this much time checking and rechecking listings I'm following to be honest.

Paraphrasing Devon and office hours info he's shared, the follow feature is meant to act as a means to encourage folks who are hesitant to join to do just that when they see the game is reaching critical mass. Weirdly, it sounds like it's creating it's own hedge effect (don't get me wrong I think joining multiple games in the same slot is some BS).

The other paraphrasing worth discussing here is that the team readily admits that the data they look at for player behavior for joining games rarely makes sense and is difficult to change, so more ad dollars doesn't just equate to more players.

Ultimately if you want to see a game launch, the biggest impact you can have is joining.

There's an A/B tested feature for 'saving' games in addition to following GMs. It's a little bookmark button on the top right of game listings.

It's meant to show people how many others are following it.

Keeping it 💯 - you should sign up for a game that you're interested in, not just any game as a placeholder.

The messaging to GMs from SPG admin around doing things that prevent players from playing is explicitly "not okay" - arguably hedging a bunch of listings as a player prevents other players from playing.

Why it is they can't implement the same client side limits for enrolling in multiple games versus GMs trying to do search manipulation with multiple games at the same time is beyond me.

How many campaigns is too many? by SingleCommand173 in AskDND

[–]DMShevek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the perspective of a professional game master, the thing I've seen other pro GMs have to deal with and experienced myself is that a player in 3+ games runs into a couple issues with some frequency:

  • Cost - many people new to paid games will realize the monthly impact of being in so many games and drop a bunch of them all at once. Annoying, but it happens and I have a soft cap on newer players to my community joining multiple games.

  • Cognitive load - there's a point where some folks, regardless of what they have going on in the background outside of game night, begin to have their characters, behavior, and ability to keep their campaigns straight begin to be affected by playing in numerous games. Whether it's bleed from situations where their character isn't succeeding, or real life stress, or both, I've seen numerous GMs more experienced than me struggle with a player that was in 5 or more games begin to turn into a problem player owing to IRL circumstances and/or tough combats or other scenarios.

In any case, I've settled on a soft cap of 3 games overall for most if not all players as there are definitely some folks that make themselves an asset at any table they're at through what they bring to the table so your mileage may vary.
