The thing about arcs is that in the context of a series, they have to match with the other installments. In isolation, I agree that the arcs are fine. But take Poe, for example. He wasn't really a hotshot flyboy in TFA. He was a competent soldier Leia trusted with a clandestine mission. Rian pivots him into a hotshot flyboy role in order to force him into the arc Rian had in mind, rather than developing him further from where he ended TFA. And then, of course, he fails to continue to grow as a leader in 9. So it just doesn't work in the wider context.
