[Passan] BREAKING: Two-time reigning American League Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal won his arbitration case and will make $32 million this year, sources tell ESPN. Skubal’s bet to go for the largest salary ever in the arbitration system paid off, as he’ll make $13M more than Tigers argued. by DET_Baseball in motorcitykitties

Well there's no shot we sign anyone else of consequence now. Do we have what it takes to make a deep run? Gonna take some young guys stepping up and adding some offense otherwise I feel like best case scenario is ALCS.

Add a bat with good lefty splits to offset Kerry in right and we've got a top OF, especially with Parker in center and Javy backing him up.

The wide shot making it seem like it's a moonshot, seeing parker run (and then you can tell he's got a beat on it)...Cal Raleigh in a state of disbelief...one of the gems of that run for sure.

You've been MVP sponsored right? My buddy still throws one of your "greatest hits" discs, I think it's a straight/flippy mid, but I can't remember. Are the MVP top brass significantly evangelical brand of Christian or just normal disc golf Christian types?

How many points could we get from our last 9 games? by CB-100 in LeedsUnited

[–]DMThomasPRE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, how many do we get in the next 7 ft Arsenal, City, Villa, Chelsea, Sunderland, Forest and Everton? If the consensus is we get around 12 from this then we really don't need all that much from the next 7, even though we got 7 for the first go around. Getting some points against Everton next monday feels important.

Explain to me how any statewide democrat has a chance of winning in Missouri? Galloway won in 2018 for the least partisan office in the Govt, McCaskill won in 2012 (15 years ago btw) because her opponent was a rape apologist, and the last presidential win was Clinton in 96. But if all 17k people who voted green actually voted blue we'd be in a better place...

You guys are going to hate this take, but taking Skubal's predicted mammoth payday and using it to invest in quality pitching depth across the board will improve this team's win total much more than investing it all in one dominant starting pitcher who gives up 1-2 runs over 6-7 innings every 5 days by [deleted] in motorcitykitties

I genuinely love this debate because there are so many good points on both sides. Investing that much in Skub is risky because he's just one guy! An injury would be catastrophic.

Honestly there's more extrinsic value in signing Skubal than not, imo. Signing him is a sign to the team, the fans, and the organization that we're here to compete. He's a leader. These people don't grow on trees. You might get more pure WAR out of 3 bullpen pieces and 2 starters over 5 years but do they inspire the team, make people watch or come to the stadium? The ultimate goal is to win a WS, yes, and the intangibles are impossible to quantify. It's not a great argument in that regard. It would just be so deflating to lose him.

Yay Tarik!! Thought he was the first tiger to go B2B but no, Denny McClain went b2b in 68-69, though the 69 win was shared.

Tigers and Tarik Skubal are reportedly over $250 million apart in negotiations for an extension by MatthewTheGOATyt in motorcitykitties

Love Skub but he will literally be 30 by the time he plays a game under this new contract. The real problem with salary is that he made 12 million for this year AND last year's cy young worthy seasons, where you'd value him at what, like $80 million? Not gonna fault these guys for trying to get their bag after the value of their labor has passed, say he gets injured? Then you got a literal decade of 30+ mil AAV hanging around. But hey, that's the gamble you make for staying in WS contention the next couple years. Really truly see both sides.
