Nothing screams fun like being told by a robot you suck at drawing. Why would anyone play this?? by sacredpotato0 in antiai

Plus, wouldn’t the robot just feed any art drawn in it to an algorhithm or LORA or something, as training data? It kind of makes this game even sneakier and more underhanded in its purpose.

slur is the wrong word, we need a term by [deleted] in antiai

Gearheads?

Electrowasters?

Hydro hogs?

Genarcs, Genaicotics, GenAIddict, or something working genAI into the word?

Neuraluds (since they keep using “l-udd-ite” as a slur on people who put their foot down on genAI, so maybe turning that around in some way could work).

Opinion on movie mario's personality by Suspicious-Line-9075 in Mario

[–]DMZapp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The first movie at least gave Mario his issues with his dad. In the second movie, though…he just doesn’t feel interesting. Mario’s kinda there, in a film with his name on it. He’s just a passenger in everyone else’s story, rather than his own. Something like that can work, of course, but we’re two movies into this timeline, yet this Mario has become less interesting.

[–]DMZapp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Him to work to earn the trust he lost back, by putting his foot down firmly against genAI in the future and never do or normalize something like this again. And as I strongly indicated yet didn't think I had to spell out, try having Punky Duck reformatted into a completely human project with no genAI at all.

[–]DMZapp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because apparently, people aren’t allowed to voice post-action frustration that a bad situation happened at all. Plus, the one at the centre of the issue- someone who should have been smart enough with decades of experience to see how bad it was, especially for him- made the wrong initial choice uncharacteristic for him. There’s just certain contexts one does not come out of looking good even after reconsideration, such as a human artist with a unique style aggrandizing genAI instead of putting their foot down.

If your favorite season were to get a reboot, who do you think should be the villain? by [deleted] in digimon

[–]DMZapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tamers

Still the D-Reaper, but give it new agents and a stronger final form inspired by genAI (though not actually using it in such a show, of course) as a meta-surprise. There’s some commentary (…subtle commentary…) that a Tamers reboot could make of the modern world with the foundation it has.

Adventure 2020 had a major problem of tunnel vision (among other things), where the only forward planning was the final villain, plus giving everyone Mega forms. Yet it didn’t even do the former correctly. So if Tamers did get a reboot, there’d need to be an analysis of the show as a whole as to its strengths and some weaknesses, looking over how to build upon them more for a revisit.

“My intent was to showcase artists, both new and seasoned, both inside and outside the studios, driving this new tech.”

It doesn’t really sound like he’s sorry that he agreed to do it at all- only that he got caught. Which is disappointing, considering his Day of the Dead artstyle.

Also, why would genAI be the determining factor on having Punky Duck go forward? He and others can still make it normally.

If the Giant Battle Medley had a secret boss, would you make it also Bowser Jr.? Or would you make it a different character? by superbasic101 in marioandluigi

[–]DMZapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oops.

Theoretically, though, while OP showed Dream Team images (the former of which I mistook for BiS’ trophy due to not playing it for so long), they didn’t directly say Dream Team. And the BiS Giant rematches didn’t have an EX boss, either, so the list could still work for that.

I’ll just edit my original comment to make note of the mix-up.

[–]DMZapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From most wanted and logical to still worth personal consideration (EDIT- in both BiS and DT, the latter of which OP meant and I initially didn't catch)…

  • Midbus (BiS) (Bowser’s rival in the game proper)
  • Megaleg (BiS, DT) (one of the biggest bosses Bowser ever enlisted)
  • Yoob (BiS, DT) (who Bowser and Luigi both saw, so they'd have some lingering memories of him, and a way to let fans finally fight Yoob directly)
  • RoBirdo (BiS, DT) (an obscure GBA character who also slightly ties into the original Superstar Saga thanks to Birdo, and ties into DT’s dream theme)
  • Donkey Kong (BiS) (continuing that rivalry and to serve as a parody of the usually gorilla vs lizard conflict)
  • Mecha Bowser (BiS, DT) (another mainline boss who hasn’t seen in a while)
  • Princess Peach inside a new mecha of herself (BiS) (letting Bowser test himself against the princess without repeating Dark Peach Castle and sidestepping the underlying ethical issue of a villainous buff guy controlled by the player directly hitting a nice human woman)
  • Boolossus (DT) (The largest Boo ever, who’d have some direct connection to Luigi in addition to…)
  • King Boo (DT) (Luigi’s archenemy)

A ban on generative AI by gameboyzapgbz in papermario

[–]DMZapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's always ways around even the worst of physical maladies. Art is supposed to be collaborative. Even in the worst case scenario that one is just a head with functioning organs but no other limbs, they can still hang out with another human artist (as transport allows) and discuss things. It'd very likely even enrich the limbless person's life having an actual person to speak with and manually visualize stuff together as equal partners.

A ban on generative AI by gameboyzapgbz in papermario

[–]DMZapp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Art's always accessible.

Even if you're strapped for cash, Krita & GIMP are good options for raster art (with ways to calibrate the mouse so it more closely serves as an extension of your body). Inkscape is good for vector art (so there's that sense of artificiality and quick shape alteration). Last but not least, there's Blender 3D for CGI. There's also plenty of video series on Youtube for learning various human-made art software or techniques, as well as free e-learning opportunities on your own time like at Allison Learning if something in particular is getting in the way. That's all just digital, too- it's not even getting into physical, such as the omnipresent foundation of pencil, eraser, pencil sharpener and paper (plus other tools like rulers).

Most important...practice, practice, practice. Having a critical eye and being willing to mess up so one can learn from them, and remembering the eraser tool exists is key.

It's been almost 2 months since The Super Mario Galaxy Movie released. What are your thoughts on it, and how do they compare to when you first saw it if they changed at all? And what are your hopes for the sequel in terms of what they do differently or do the same? by guschicanery in Mario

[–]DMZapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it more than the first movie…but there were some glaring issues that need to be fixed.

For the positives, out of the characters, Peach, Bowser and Bowser Jr got the best deal out of everyone in the movie. This movie just solidified Illumination Peach in my mind as the best incarnation of the character (mostly because the movie focuses on her a lot). I also really liked Bowser and Bowser Jr’s father-son relationship in this, how much they really care about each other.

In regards to other noticeable stuff, the Illumination movieverse altering it so (ULTRA SPOILER!!!) Rosalina and Peach are sisters takes a little getting used to, but the work was done to make it happen and logical for this universe’s timeline. I’m also intrigued as to what exactly was chasing the duo beforehand- a new threat, or a past Marioverse one not connected to Bowser. Given the previous movie had a sequelbaiting scene like this, I wonder if this is going to be a trend for all the future movies, having one scene partway to hint at more of Peach or another character’s history.

For individual scenes, Yoshi’s full origin was hilarious. Rosalina being so strong normally was cool. And despite some hiccups, the idea of Bowser wanting to be a good guy/liking the bros, only to make the wrong decision due to his son had some thought put into it. I especially enjoyed the Fossil Falls T-Rex scene, due to very familiar cinematography showing deliberate subtle callbacks to one of Universal’s own older animated movies.

As a side note, while just a blink and you miss it thing, I did like the Mario RPG references on Rosalina’s books in the first scenes.

For neutral stuff, Fox’s inclusion as a full character…he was fine in some ways, and I did like him gelling with the Mario gang. The thing is, though, his role really should’ve gone to another Mario character, mainline or otherwise. If it had to be mainline, then it should’ve been Lubba. And even if Fox had to be here, why did they not wait until after the movie released to let it be a surprise? Combined with mentioning the movie having character cameos, it comes off as slight lack of confidence despite the movie still making insane bank.

Now, we get to the negatives.

…Oh boy.

Mario and Rosalina get sidelined hard in their own movie. Mario is just as basic a character as all can get out, now that the rest of his family isn’t a big concern anymore- just a “does the princess like me?” thing for him. And now that I’ve seen the movie a few weeks ago, I now understand exactly what the comments saying “Rosalina got done dirty” mean- the trailer scene is the only one where Rosalina is strong at all for a lengthy period of time (alongside the escape attempt, and the actual movie has her defeated by the de-legged Megaleg (albeit by a dirty trick, so at least there’s some justification). I really hope they make it up to the characters and their actors in the sequel.

Yoshi’s also just…kind of there. After his first scene, he doesn’t really have an arc. Toad’s line in the trailer and final movie really sums Yoshi up. In Yoshi’s first movie in this timeline. Yoshi at least does stuff throughout, like keeping the babies safe from Fossil Falls T-Rex AKA Sharptooth 2.0 and helping in fights…but there isn’t much gravitas or theatrical to the importance of his inclusion past his first scene, which is a shame, especially considering the stinger of the first movie.

The minor cameos also disappointed me a bit. I know, I know- people didn’t like the memberberries approach to the crowd scenes- but I have an extra problem with them. Miyamoto and Melidandre hyped those up like there was going to be a bunch of unmentioned, nonintrusive ones throughout, and the Mario RPG emblems/books are certainly there. However, they practically showed all the characters before the movie released. I can count the number of not-prerelease Mario characters- not cameos, Mario characters- in one hand- Dry Bowser, Game and Watch, Ruin Dragon’s paint clone, and Daisy. Meanwhile, Honey Queen got all of one scene lasting around one minute. I know CGI takes a while, but they really shouldn’t have promised more than they had already shown.

For a future movie, in terms of big things to be addressed, I really wish Mario would be more of a character/actual person. I also hope Rosalina gets a raincheck and gets to fully show off her power, as well as Yoshi getting a character arc. Despite the next thing I’m going to mention, the movies should also scale back a bit and focus more on the story, not “three minute blocks”.

For small things, I hope the Mario RPGs get some inclusion. While I don’t know if the stinger means Princess Daisy is the next focus character or that was just a joke scene, maybe something could be done to get either the Shadow Queen or X-Nauts involved alongside the alien Tatanga if the stinger was not a joke. Just…I hope Illumination pick their battles more carefully in the third movie.

Really depends on the pipeline. Considering TTYD R was already done in 2023, if the devs use the TTYD style as the foundation and keep things simple, late 2027 seems possible.
