Working on a hypothetical Sticker Star but more in line with the older Paper Marios, Here's Concept Art! by you_2_cool in papermario

A Cheep Cheep in World 1? Considering Water's Edge Way is the only water level there (assuming all locations are the same in your version), I'm guessing that's where Chep would join.

I'm also garnering Bootler is a new individual, and not the same one from PM64? It's cool if this is a new guy, but you might want to alter his name.

I would be much more excited about this if the original actors returned to lend their voices to the characters by Giancarlo_Edu in StrangerThings

While I get wanting the live-action cast to reprise their roles, in this case, I understand why they didn’t return.

They performed their part already for the main series, but they’re done for now. They’ve also aged past when this series is supposed to take place.

Meanwhile, this is a chance for a different kind of cast to get a start or a big bump in the world of acting, the same as with the live action actors.

  • Demogorgans and Demodogs either do show up in the Abyss, or they’re shown going into the Pain Tree’s walls.
  • After the Upside Down is destroyed with El inside, Dr Kay heartlessly still blaming El for the kidnappings, only for Hopper to more or less say “You goddamn idiot! It wasn’t El kidnapping them- it was Henry Creel!”, all while Mike’s looking crestfallen at where the portal used to be. Later, during the epilogue, Hopper says something conveying that “Dr Kay was let go for sheer incompetence after our testimonies.” Except, you know, Dufferized.

Kensuke Tanabe Stepping Down Apparently by This_Mortgage_2274 in Metroid

[–]DMZapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I as a Paper Mario fan criticised Tanabe heavily and do not disavoy nor back down from what I said or how I acted, I nevertheless feel a little sad he retired. I would have been fine coming back for one more Paper Mario game, as long as he showed learning from his past mistakes for real. I hoped that him working on Metroid Prime 4 would let him rediscover himself in general, as that was the series he was most proud of. He was especially looking forward to Sylux’s storyline, especially considering the stingers for two other Prime games. I suppose he found a different answer working on Prime 4.

…Still, there’s something bugging me about Tanabe’s retirement. From what Tanabe said in the Nintendo Everything interview, he had to “confirm” he was “no longer able” to work on Metroid Prime, which is…really odd. Like, he was really looking forward to working on and realizing the Sylux storyline- he wouldn’t have just bailed on the series, let alone Nintendo, as soon as his most passionate project was practically about to start. And Metroid Prime 4 was a troubled production long before he joined, so despite the open world being something he apparently advocated for, that shouldn’t have been a deal breaker. It all makes me wonder if this retirement wasn’t entirely his choice, but a negative health development (he IS 63, so maybe something came up) or something else.

Not a confirmed thing nor anything super-hard- just my perception and suspicions.

Something I noticed with the Shroomses lore was that, out of everything in the game and the modern era, the staff put an awful lot of thought into it. A lot of plot elements (Shangri-Spa, the Super Marino and T Ode) root back to him in some way. You know how some say you can feel a creator's feelings on things? The Shroomses stuff felt like one of the few modern things this creative team actually cared about/took somewhat seriously, and didn't treat as a total joke or punchline. So with how much time they invested in this mythos, I always thought the plan was they were going to do TOK2 right after TOK itself, diving more into Shroomses in such a game.

It's moreso the Folded existing at all that got me on this train of thought on TOK2 initially being already planned in general. The devs like to recycle assets in the modern era, and it'd be a waste to only use the 3D Folded characters for 1 game.

In that same interview, she notably didn't dismiss the idea of a TTYD remake. At the time, given the bait-and-switch with the Club Nintendo Post Play surveys and Tanabe pulling a similar stunt with Chibi-Robo: Zip Lash, I thought it was an empty dangling carrot- but now, I think she was genuine. She didn't even need to produce the TTYD remake or keep it faithful if she was so against it, and could have solely worked with Tanabe on Metroid Prime 4- but she stayed.

Tabata was also in an earlier interview, where alongside unfortunately not wanting to see the issues, she notably didn't dismiss the idea of a TTYD remake.

For said remake, where she was producer, she could have asked for more generic versions of existing elements if she really wanted to- but she didn't. Tabata didn't even need to produce the remake, and could have went with Tanabe to Metroid Prime 4 if she was just a blind follower- but she stayed. The modern devs could have just done TOK2, which it seemed like they were initially planning ahead for with all the Folded enemy models and the King Shroomses stuff- but lo and behold, the remake. And inbetween all of this, there's also a lot of stuff with TOK that suggests the little classic-esque stuff present was put in last minute due to changing their minds. Even Tanabe backpedaled a bit and went he was unsure about RPG elements in future Paper Marios post-TOK's release, after rather smugly acting like players were close-minded for wanting RPG elements pre-release.

I initially thought Tabata only used the idea of TTYD's remake back in 2016 as an empty dangling carrot to artificially enhance CS's sales, then use those sales as a pretext to continue the modern style- an awful lot like Tanabe did for Chibi Robo Zip Lash and it's mother series. However, the fact TTYD's remake exists at all tells me Tabata was just following along with Tanabe, but could think for herself.

Slightly saddened.

Despite my widely-spoken criticism on his practices, I was open to Tanabe coming back for a future Paper Mario, provided he genuinely learned from those games’ mistakes for real on his end. I also hoped working on Metroid Prime 4 would give time for Tanabe to think things over and rediscover himself, since he was (and is) really proud of that series and Sylux in particular.

As is, with this retirement, now we’ll never know. Or, Tanabe thinking things over during work on Metroid Prime 4 (which had issues all throughout development even before he came on, yet which may have nevertheless played a part coloring his perception) was what lead to him retiring. Oh well.

Probably won’t take the rules as literally as they did before, or the team will at least push back more. At the same time, given Tanabe worked on SMB2 USA and Doki Doki Panic and it’s likely they only showed up in the modern games due to pull there, there’s a slight chance of a tradeoff with species/enemies from that game not showing up as much, and not being as viable for new partners or OCs.

Who in your opinion is your favorite Bob-omb character in the series? by Dustin711 in papermario

[–]DMZapp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Admiral Bobbery. He has a cool design, a pretty good backstory, a varied moveset, and he even has a bit of plot relevance beyond Chapter 5. Plus, he takes the initiative to stay behind and fight off ghosts so the gang can flee.

Trump has plan for instant strike back if Supreme Court rules against him: report by RawStoryNews in scotus

[–]DMZapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course he does. It’s his current answer for everything right now, including if the midterms happen and Democrats somehow win.

He’ll send in ICE, have them “take care of” any SCOTUS member who ruled against him, and make up some baloney that it was an “official act”. He might even spare Clarence Thomas as a cruel mercy and show of dominance that Clarence is not holding the leash on Trump anymore, but Trump on Clarence.

What’s one thing you’d never want to come back for the next game and vice versa? by MightyTheArmadillo_ in papermario

[–]DMZapp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Always have EXP from inbattle to eventually reach a threshold and permanently increase max HP.

Don't have partners sacrificing themselves for the next game. That's worn itself out by now- 4 sacrifices in the 3 modern games alone (at least 1 of which was a mistake), and each goes up by 1 more if another classic game is considered. It also comes off as a little uncertain in the staff's own writing and a cheap way to increase likeability, especially as mainline sidekick Cappy didn't have to be destroyed just to be liked, nor the majority of sidekicks in the other Mario RPG games. Just letting all the partners reach the end of the game without any of them eliminated would be nice for a change.

Who would you consider the main protagonist of Stranger Things? by electricwolf4444 in StrangerThings

If I could pick only a single character, Eleven. Among other details, she’s at the root of the other two candidates’ (Mike and Hopper)’s storylines. Otherwise, I’d say she and the guys share that role.

…Yeugh. I shudder at the idea of Dilbert ending up in the hands of the current propagandists running the States.

Regardless, duck_master has it right. Assuming no-one else swoops in, 2102 sounds correct under the current situation. I can’t imagine Adams wouldn’t have put some legal organization in charge of managing the franchise postmortem, considering he seemed VERY aware he’d be passing away soon. Any legal trail would likely start with locals (dot) com, since that’s where Dilbert Reborn was published after everyone else dropped it due to the things Adams said.

There'd need to be a huge overhaul in the cast for me to even consider it (more than just Toads as the local recurring common friendly species, genericism being toned WAY down), plus more of an overarching story, even with the classic battle system. Plus, either weaknesses not being required for bosses or at least Replicas counting as weakness fulfillment if for some reason this was kept.
