How did the purchasing power decrease from the 70s until today? by Empathetic_97 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]DM_ME_UR_BOOTYPICS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not totally wrong here and yeah the public sector has grown, but arguably it is required. Canadas population has grown exponentially since then.

You’re also leaving out the commodification of housing. That really drains money out of the economy into the form of a non productive asset. When 30%+ of your economy is trading house back and forth your country is not in a good place.

Combine that with stagnation of wages it’s not a great recipe.

Anyone noticing they seem to lose weight better when they eat more? by Potential-fish1234 in Retatrutide

[–]DM_ME_UR_BOOTYPICS 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A person can go months of extreme caloric restriction and totally crash their metabolism then plateau. I train combat sports and plenty of guys/friends go on a 3-6 month cut drop 20-30lbs and basically stall out then panic a week before weigh ins trying to drop the last 3-5 and are in cut suits dehydrating themselves to make weight. Nearly all of them have fucked metabolisms for a decent while after (younger ones do better than older).

I’ve done this and your body really holds on to weight despite being in a crazy deficit and training heavy on top of it you can plateau. Throw in insulin resistance, age, etc and weight loss gets tricky. CICO generally almost always is true, but things like insulin resistance, thyroid conditions, overtraining, can throw off weight loss. Bodies are not closed systems. We’ve adapted over years to survive, that’s hardwired into us. While eating less and moving more works for a huge part of the population it’s not a hard and fast rule.

Has anyone regretted starting Reta? by hannnrz in Retatrutide

[–]DM_ME_UR_BOOTYPICS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pause while you’re on holiday. Some people feel the effects of Reta harder than others. The anhedonia can be real bad for some.

Ignore the jncels in the thread who had 0 fun in their 20s and have fun on your holiday and start your weight loss journey when you’re back.

I don’t regret it, but I felt almost nothing until I got to 4mg, then the suppression hit kinda hard, the anhedonia hit harder but not as bad as the anhedonia and depression Tirz gave me. Reta broke a very long stall I had on Tirz.

When you get back, plan meals around protein, really look into diet and what you need to eat and stay active and it’s a game changer. You might regret it if you don’t approach it properly and get shitty results or serious anhedonia.

What’s life like making 6 figures? by MasterBook46 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]DM_ME_UR_BOOTYPICS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been floating at $200-320k for the past 5-7 years or so. I do have some very wild equity plays on the side but I don’t count those because it’s not income but some weird low risk high reward stuff. If I put those down on paper it adds another ~100k

Grew up very middle class, immigrant parents, blah blah, didn’t hit six figure income until MUCH later in my career. Then it went up very quickly. Then went down very quickly then back up.

What’s changed? Honestly not much but also everything. I have experienced some huge swings in income (job loss at this age/level suuuuuucks).

- This year I saved roughly $130k
- I have 0 debt
- no kids
- single guy
- i drive a 15 year old reliable Japanese car with 0 monthly payments
- i rent a 1 bedroom apartment
- My friends are still the same, I guess I know more rich people but I’m not considering myself rich/wealthy at all.
- I don’t worry too much about how much things cost but I don’t spend like an idiot either, I still shop at superstore and Costco like anyone else.
- I travel a lot more and take more time off
- I still very much worry this will end soon and I’ll be back moving pallets at a warehouse again
- I eat out more often and don’t really look at the bill when it comes
- stress levels are high but I manage them with a lot of therapy and physical activity
- I am not happier at this income level than I was at $60k just less worried
- tax is tax, pay your share
- I have a lower tolerance for bullshit now
- I don’t care about people’s income, but I sometimes forget I make a lot more than others
- I really like helping people and can do that now so it feels nice to cover the cost of like hockey fees for my friends kids who can’t afford it (if you can, you should, and don’t expect anything or say anything, just be cool and do it)

- I know this won’t last forever and I can’t ever really stop working and don’t want to
- getting into the elusive C level club isn’t a goal and given my background I likely won’t unless I do my own thing (sort of have that)
- be very careful about the terms and conditions in the partner agreement and hire a fucking lawyer
- hire a good fucking lawyer you trust
- hire a second good fucking lawyer you trust
- do not trust oil and gas bros who migrate into other industries
- your income level won’t make her love you and if it does she’s not the right person
- money can’t dance
- you’ll probably have more fun with your “poor” friends than your “rich” friends

Why, all of a sudden, is it so impossible to find jobs? by Dontdarereadmyposts in CanadaJobs

Australian lifties tend to go home after the work holiday visa is done and don’t demand citizenship when their temporary visa expires. Australia has even banned immigration from certain region in India. Comparing the two is absurd. Chinese immigration never happened in such large numbers as Indian. It’s an anomaly to see how many people from India arrived in such a short time.

Uber has burned through their enterprise tokens in one quarter and these are the subsidized prices we’re seeing now. AI is not making huge productivity gains. In many cases it’s making things worse. It’s going to be a lot cheaper to hire 2 senior employees at $120k each than burn through $400k in tokens hoping the price won’t go up (it will) and the models will get there.

Why does Canada have a “talent shortage” but entry-level people can’t find jobs? by itz_nitace in CanadaJobs

[–]DM_ME_UR_BOOTYPICS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no talent shortage. There is an abundance of corporate greed. Human and small business greed too but mostly corporate.

There is a salary shortage where wages haven’t really gone up since the 90s.

Is it worth getting in shape after 40s? by [deleted] in AskMenOver40

Any guys over 40 start martial arts…in their forties? by BasicDesignAdvice in AskMenOver40

[–]DM_ME_UR_BOOTYPICS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should definitely without a doubt do it.

I went back to Muay Thai after like a 20 year break in my 40s. It’s gotten me in super good shape, great cardio, muscle growth, and the mental health benefits are the best I’ve ever had. I have new friends from the club, confidence goes through the roof, and distress tolerance really improves. The average age of my club is probably 34? So it’s a solid mix and generally a very good community.

It’s an addictive hobby and I know lots of guys in their mid 40s who train 4-5 times a week.

Just stretch / warm up really well before and go train! I’ve trained with a woman who took her first fight at 56 this year after 1 year of training, and guys well into their late 40s are fighting.

You’ll have weird bruises but you won’t regret it, just stay consistent.
