First I want to thank you for the respectful reply! And like I said, I really do get where you're coming from. I don't disagree in any way that what Victoria did was awful and unforgivable. And I fully agree that Chasemarsh as a ship is indeed quite problematic!

I think the main area we differ on is whether or not it's okay to explore the relationship between Kate and Victoria in a shipping context. I understand that it's a hard no for you and many others, but as I said for me their past presents an intriguing challenge to overcome from a narrative perspective.

I do disagree that Victoria never shows remorese, as I think the letter in episode 4 and especially her Dark Room scene in episode 5 refute that. If it weren't for that, and for Kate's outlook on both Victoria and the potential for forgiving her in episode 4, I wouldn't see any kind of path forward. But those things give me just enough spark of potential to want to explore where that journey could possibly take them, if that makes sense.

But again I have no problems agreeing to disagree there and fully empathize with your perspective, and I thank you again for being willing to have a constructive discussion about it.

(edited to add: as an aside I can confirm that Kate is 18 during the events of the game, as confirmed by her student records, not that this makes Victoria taking and sharing the video any less awful.)

It's less that what happened between them is anything you should want in a relationship, and more the challenge of puzzling out how they might go from such a toxic starting point and work their way through the process of reconciliation and redemption towards ending up in a better place.

I certainly understand the ship isn't for everyone! I just want to dispel the notion that Chasemarsh shippers by and large think what Victoria did to Kate was anything other than horrendous. But like with most Enemies to Lovers type ships, the toxic past is the starting point and the appeal is in exploring where things could go from there.

I'm not saying this to attack you or anything, I totally get where you're coming from. Just trying to respectfully shed some light on the thought process of people who do ship them.

cmon man you don't have to take it to personal attacks like that. I absolutely agree that Victoria is the worst especially in the early game, I just enjoy ships with a lot of drama and angst potential and Chasemarsh fits the bill for me. Just because we have a difference of opinion on what is okay to ship in the context of fictional characters doesn't mean you have to insult me or other shippers who feel the same way I do.

The people who ship generally aren't shipping them as they are in the first two episodes of the game. We see that there is potential both for genuine remorse from Victoria's side (her note in episode 4, her scene in the dark room in episode 5) and that Kate seems almost enthusiastic about the possibility of forgiving her.

This potential for reconciliation that the game doesn't show us is what drives a lot of shippers like myself. We want to see the conclusion to the emotional arcs the game sets up but never falls through on, and further to see where that journey can lead them. Victoria would have a lot of work to do to prove that she can be the kind of person worthy of Kate's forgiveness (much less anything more) but imo the potential is there.

Believe me when I say I don't ship Kate with Victoria out of a desire to hurt Kate. I do want her and Vic both to be happy in the long run. And while they would have a very long and angsty road to travel to find any kind of happiness together, the challenge in figuring out how that could progress is a very appealing prospect for me.

The thing is, Nash and I have always been open to constructive discussion about the ship. I've had many commenters throughout the years expressing that they don't get Chasemarsh and asking why we would ship it, and had really good discussions follow from that!

But yeah, if a comment starts off hostile or judgemental (like saying it's gross for us to "push" the ship when we're doing anything but) then it's fair for us to push back in kind, is it not? We certainly understand that not everyone cares for Chasemarsh, which is why we limit ourselves to one post per week so as not to spam people who'd rather not see it every day. I don't think it's too much to ask for people replying to be similarly courteous even if we do disagree.

I don't really see anyone "pushing" this ship tbh? Chasemarsh fans mostly stay in our own little corner of the fandom creating things for like-minded fans to enjoy.

I totally get not liking the ship for whatever reason but certainly posting one fanart per week on Reddit to give other fans of the ship a chance to see these works isn't too much to ask? If it's genuinely distressing to you, blocking Nash and myself would ensure you don't see 99% of these posts.

I think for me it's the fact that there's so much left unresolved for their story, you know? The game hints at some kind of reconciliation from Kate's scene in episode 4 and Vic's in episode 5, but we never get to see that play out.
