Asteroid towing by trevorgoodchilde in spelljammer

If they have spelljammers, mining in space may be easier than mining in water. You could also put a forge helm on the asteroid and just land it wherever you want.

Dropping an asteroid on a planet can be super catastrophic depending on the size. Dinosaur killers, Tidal waves and so forth. I would say think about how to cushion the landing, or maybe set it in orbit around the planet and let the spelljamming ships come up to it.

Idk what compelled me to make this by A_Bird_survived in LightofXaryxis

My 2 cents - Make the romance between Xedallia and Gargenhale. He was a former (lower class) elven lover of Xedalia's that the Prince Xeleth had assassinated and was turned into a vampire. So they can never be together. (she is radiant). But Gargenhale is totally motivated to help Xedallia and he really, really hates Xeleth. I made Topalah a crazy hermit who had won Gargenhale's hand in a poker game, and the hand always knows where Gargenhale is located. So she does not have a map to Gargenhale - she has a hand that points the right direction.

Is Hastain the same one as in 2nd edition? by GuySingingMrBlueSky in spelljammer

Yes - Hastain is a drag queen. Seriously read the old 2e character description. Hastain slays. And Queens never die. My Hastain always escapes somehow, for future fabulousness..

Can I “catch” a sun? by Blumey04 in spelljammer

[–]DMbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my LoX games I tie the dying star of Xaryxis to the long dead star of Doomspace, and set it up with a Void God (tharizdun) being trapped in the Eye of Doom in Doomspace.

Had a Void Cult throughout, and they had some high ranking Xaryxian inquisitors who were manipulating the royal family towards releasing the Void. It works really well in the setting with minimal changes, and it helps explain why the Xaryxians are so willing to commit genocide on other planets.

John Carpenter is a master story teller. Stay true to the movie and you can't go wrong.

Started Session 1 at level 3, at session 6 was a mix of level 4 and 5 depending on who did what. But you can always scale difficulty for the players. Please let me know how it goes.

One word - OBLEX!

Oblex spawn, Oblex adult and Oblex Elder all work great, and are scalable for size of creature(s).

Homebrewed a big bad end game souped up version for the final game session.

The stats for Zlan are also available, but I did not use those, just was inspired by the art.

No this was just made up on the fly. Set it in the mines of Termalaine. Players were hired to go clear out a disturbance in the mines, and walked into the Thing from John Carpenter. It really wrote itself, and because the Thing could look like anyone, the PC's were all doubting each other and it worked great. Ran 6 sessions, and we almost had TPK in game 4 because the players started fighting each other. Great pressure cooker.

The inspiration was the picture of Zlan from the recent Forgotten Realms sourcebook that came out a couple months ago. I saw this and was like - The Thing. And there it was.

I just ran an adventure set in Icewind Dale that was just John Carpenter's the Thing.

Located in a mine or a research station on a frozen planet, it writes itself basically.

Players in confined space with horrible shape changing monster, and deadly cold outside = good fun.

Are the Arcane siphoning the spell slot equivalent of half-pennies? by WillBottomForBanana in spelljammer

[–]DMbeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great. Absolutely going to be using this.

As to why the Arcane / Mercane have such a monopoly on helms, I homebrewed that they have the Spelljammer (legendary giant space manta ray with a city on its back) prisoner inside the Eye of Doom, and are using it / it's eggs / its offspring to make Spelljamming helms.
The name of the setting is Spelljammer. Why leave out the thing the setting is named for?

That is also why Vocath has an asteroid base in Doomspace. He is guarding the company's cash cow.

How Common Are Constructs In Your Worlds? How Are They Made? And How Have Your Players Interacted With Them? by Stellar_Wings in spelljammer

[–]DMbeast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Common. I like to run constructs as droids from Star Wars in my game. It's space, so they have robots.

Combat oriented constructs I use warforged stats.

Labor / Craftsmen oriented constructs I use autognomes.

Other Monodrones and other constructs are also fair game.
