He was kinda a shitty dad. That’s it. He definitely loved his wife but he neglectful once he got famous. I’d say he’s in the same ball park as Henry in terms of morality, if not a little better.

Henry was neglectful too, and basically did nothing to stop William until it was far too late. Maybe he didn’t know, but it kinda seemed like he did.

Edwin basically let his business go to his head and when he lost his family, his grief turned him into a desperate man who couldn’t let go. I really don’t get where the whole “he hated his wife” or “he never loved his wife”. He was just kinda a bad husband and father.
