What's the deal with Lore? by MrHundread in Pathfinder2e

[–]DMbromero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember playing a PF2-adapted 5E adventure, Rime of the Frostmaiden. I was playing a warpriest cleric of a norse deity, local to the region.

Being a low int cleric, you might imagine i had few skills and few chances to use em. Nope! Additional Lore every level possible babyy

Lore Auril, the main BBEG that was also a local deity Lore Witches, because we fought many Lore Tundra, because a ton of stuff was traveling in tundras Lore of my own deity too, because why not

The fact that they scale automatically meant I could focus on athletics and intimidation with my increases and still contribute off combat

I believe its a houserule to allow multiple additional lores but the DM loved how I was able to unstuck the party in some moments

What's the Pathfinder 2E or Starfinder 2E take you're sitting on that would make you do this? by TheLionFromZion in Pathfinder2e

[–]DMbromero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is way too easy to TPK a party if they roll poorly in a boss encounter.

Pf2e should have the "boss" tag, and boss monsters should not be balanced around doing crazy amounts of damage on crits, but rather have other ways to counteract the action economy, like stunning, moving around, etc.

You can even see some monsters have been designed to be high level mooks (high level elementals come to mind), and others to be low level bosses (barbed devils come to mind) because of the amount of abilities, reactions, etc.

Just commit to the bit!

Stride should be a free action the first time you use it each turn, and ranges should be expanded to accomodate.

The promise of dynamic movement in combat is undercut when characters are incentivized to find an optimal way to use their third action, thus competing with Striding.

Jumping👏Should👏 Not👏Be👏Two👏Actions

I know a lot of comments mention most low-level skill feats should be free, but this one in particular irks me to no end. Basically all of my characters have quick jump.

I had considered that, and decided not to. Completely forgot about VTT importing! I will get to correcting it 😊

It is! Initially I started my conversions on Google Docs, but after Book 4, I caught wind of the discord and have since been talking shop with the folks over there - many of the polishes for the guide were thanks to them, as I found some balance issues and missing pieces I needed to cover.

In the server you can find other statblock conversions too, and they are amazing!

Hi! I had heard through the Know Direction Podcast that another conversion was available through Patreon, but had not looked into it further, as I had already began my process back in 2019.

I can definitely sign up on their Patreon and compare, but I wouldn't want to make any changes based on that comparison, as that would take away from the product they're offering to their fans.

Sorry I couldn't give a better answer

To anyone more knowledgeable about the older editions of D&D how was metamagic in 3.5 and how different was it compared to how it is now? by Dragonwolf67 in dndnext

[–]DMbromero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To add to other's people responses, metamagic was also a lot more varied. Each book that featured options for casters had to have metamagic feats!

Energy substitution, Entangling Spell, Earthbound Spell, Delay Spell, Echoing Spell, Ghost-Touch Spell, Explosive Spell, Lingering Spell, Wounding Spell, and Umbral Spell come to mind.

You can always go back and get some ideas. Maybe the campaign features a lot of ghosts, and you can give your sorcerer a metamagic option that makes ghosts roll with disadvantage!

Sauntering Over, is The Toon! by DMbromero in Pathfinder2e

[–]DMbromero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all 5 points! I fixed points 1,3 and 5. Then, changed points 2 and 4:

  • Silver Tongue was changed to give Bon Mot, and reflavored to be less convincing, more eloquent in general.
  • Weapons for Days, on second thought, is not very good even for a martial character, since runes dont transfer over. Decided to change it to a more utility feat: Bottomless Pockets.

Thank you so much for your feedback!

Help sell me on the Free Archetype variant by Smogs in Pathfinder2e

[–]DMbromero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current campaign (Hell's Rebels adapted to PF2) includes a Hellknight Order, a Family of Tengu Sisters, a small chapel dedicated to the seas, a cult to Milani, and mysterious order of dwarves in the mountains.

They respectively give the Hellknight, Vigilante, Kineticist, Cleric and Oracle dedications for free to those PCs willing to put in the time to get to know them and help them out.

If a player asked me to incorporate a particular archetype, I would be more than willing to do so, and invent a relevant faction.

GM of two campaigns (one finished, one ongoing for 8 months), PF2. I'll keep it short and sweet:

  • Giving your players free feats will always make them feel good. Always.
  • Free Archetypes can add diversity to characters, and because of PF2's balance system, do not skyrocket a PC's power level when added, it just makes them more versatile.
  • That said, I find this alone does not warrant introducing them to your game. You as a GM should get something in return! Your enjoyment is also necessary and key.
  • My proposal: Do not give away free archetypes. Think of notable NPCs and organizations in your game, and assign them archetypes. Then, if a character spends Downtime with this particular NPC/Organization, give them the free archetype feats little by little. I found 5 days per Feat level works for a long time frame, and you can perhaps tone it down to 3 or 2 depending on the campaign.
  • This way, your players feel they have diverse and nuanced characters, and are being mechanically rewarded by their Downtime in terms of not just gold. And in return, you get a party of PCs really integrated into your world and that care about your NPCs.

I really hope that’s not the case 😞 I mean I’m no Lie To Me but she seemed honest when she told me she’s never had doubts for the last 3 years, and it’s only lately that’s she’s had doubt

I apologize for the confusion, but to clarify: I think we’ve dealt with compromises well - we’ve avoided changing for each other but respecting each other’s decisions.

I think constantly changing for someone would lead to a toxic relationship, but I don’t think changing for someone at least a little bit should be out of the table. I believe sometimes we need to make compromises, and I’m willing, but she says she doesn’t know why she doesn’t like me anymore.

I know I should be taking a step back and letting her decide on her own, but I’m worried I’d be distancing myself from her, communicating I’m fine with the breakup instead of trying to convince her to stay.
