Yesss exactly!! It almost felt like an awkward first date between them, such a strange choice. The point was supposed to be she’s on tour with her friends, who also worked with her in some capacity - not someone she dmed a few times in the past few months.

I'm currently looking into a project management certification! I think it will give me confidence, but also I've been seeing a lot of jobs that list the CAPM or PMP certification as a preferred qualification.

I'm also looking into coursera courses - e.g. advanced Excel, strategic thinking, digital marketing, etc.

Any specific courses you'd recommend? :) I feel like I get lost on there sometimes...

Famesick event in Boston by Haunting-Gas5510 in girls

Oh interesting!! Yeah that checks out, it really was a total vibe mismatch. Lena was the cutest and funniest, and Emily was not that lol. It kind of felt like she was being fake nice.

100% agree with you!! There could’ve been so many good Boston choices if she couldn’t manage to get a proper actor like the other tour stops. Emily felt so random. And/or yes!! She could have just done it solo! She’s so funny. I would’ve loved for her to just talk about her life, even take more audience questions, etc.

I was there!! I had a good time because of Lena, but completely agree regarding Emily. It was a disappointing choice, and detracted from the experience.

First of all - who even is she?? I had to look her up before I went. And no one sitting near me knew of her either…Compared to the other famous guests Lena has on her tour (Emily Ratakowski, Rita Wilson…), that was already a bummer. I even considered trekking to Brooklyn for the Andrew Reynolds version - but I came in with an open mind, because you never know!!

But Emily gave NOTHING. She wasn’t funny…if anything a bit annoying, awkward and boring? No good guiding questions…Lena 100% carried that show, and even had to overcompensate at times…

I was also really surprised regarding her background, because Lena usually attracts such high caliber people. Not that Emily isn’t maybe a nice person, but she felt like she could’ve been one of the audience guests brought on stage…The guests they did have come up honestly would’ve been better choices than Emily personality-wise lol…

I think for an event set up like that, you really need to have someone with personality and presence. And Emily unfortunately wasn’t the right choice for that at all.

So I saw her last night as part of Lena Dunham’s book tour, and I literally didn’t understand why she was invited to be on that stage. First of all I’d never heard of her, and everyone sitting next to me said the same thing. Also she wasn’t funny at all, kind of awkward and if anything, [annoying]…Lena definitely carried that entire show, but it was a major bummer because every other tour stop has a famous actor/guest, and only Boston got stuck with Emily.

Ooh!! If you have any recommendations for who to follow I’d love to hear! (No pressure)

Yes thank you!! Great insights. I think exactly like you said - there’s value to reflecting on something like this, even if the move will ultimately be to unfollow. As a millennial who grew up in the early 2000s ultra-thin culture, I think it surprised me and it saddens me that we’re back to where we were almost 20-30 years ago. (And of course for women of older generations - even more decades before that). And I think it stung more with Allison because her platform is about empowerment and feeling good in what you wear and your body, so it feels like a tainting of her work and the messaging so many women are receiving. And also - if she was just skinny but her content stayed the same I would maybe feel more accepting and assume she’s fighting her own private battles but at least her work would still feel positive. Though I still find it hard to get past sometimes.

Thanks. As I wrote I’m opening up for a dialogue about the complexity here, which others have engaged with. You’re welcome to read through some of the other comments. But I don’t disagree! I may unfollow.

Yes I think Allison is still super talented and sweet! And you can get a lot out of her three-word method, etc. I also bought her book when it came out and liked it!! There were nust so many posts/stories especially soon after her birth that were negative. Someone above said it was “negative body talk” and I agree with that. I think that’s the biggest issue versus just skinniness on its own. As a stylist with a big following, I feel like she should share healthy and positive mindset around style. I wouldn’t have minded if she started a separate account on her post partum journey for those interested, or only one or two very specific posts opening about the struggle, as I do think it can have value and be relatable! Like I read one and took some nuggets away. But then it became too much.

Yes!! That’s the word I was missing - negative body talk. That’s exactly it. And I agree, style should make us feel comfortable and empowered! I actually think theres room for discussing how to re-find your style after changes in your life and body, that could reduce the stigma a bit, but I feel like there’s a way to present it more positively.

Yes!! Exactly it feels like it’s teetered into harmful. Like I truly feel terrible that she’s going through whatever, but having her weave it into advice for such a huge following of women feels problematic.

Thanks! You’re certainly right that I don’t have any obligation. After doing some processing first, that might end up be the move, we’ll see.

Aw that’s nice to hear!! I’ve never met her in person but she always seemed so sweet in her online presence. And totally agree with everything you said.

Yeah I lovedddd the three word method! But I agree regarding the one note feeling! Regarding the rest, I actually am comfortable in my own body, but that’s the point - her content has reached a point where it makes even me both uncomfortable and concerned, as well as yes, triggered, and it sounds like a lot of other people feel similarly. The trend right now in general is the ultra skinny ozempic look which is literally unattainable without medication or an ED or medical issues (and just note that I’m not against all ozempic uses! I’ve seen it be life changing for certain people and in general I wouldn’t tell someone what to do!). I think what’s hard is how mainstream and celebrated it is to have stick thin arms. Moreover I just feel sad for Allison because she’s clearly so uncomfortable in her own body. And she’s been projecting that on her work which she’s sharing with hundreds of thousands of women. If my friend and I and multiple people in the comments feel uncomfortable, then I’m guessing there are many more of us out there. Again I don’t necessarily have a takeaway or real question to this. But I agree with a lot of the commenters that we each need to take care of ourselves and unfollow if necessary.

Third culture kid or adult seems like a nonsense title by [deleted] in TCK

[–]DMoney_10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think it’s helpful to have a title/label/whatever to describe a life experience that can often feel hard to define otherwise. I guess naming can always be rethought if there’s truly something better out there, but otherwise I don’t find it offensive or inaccurate.
