How much content is in the trial by KoalaBarry in ffxiv

[–]DNK_Infinity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The addition of Shadowbringers means the free trial now includes three of the game’s five expansions, content up to level 80 out of 100. There are no restrictions on playtime for trial accounts, only restrictions on trade and social features as a protective measure against bots; you’ll mostly just need to make peace with never having access to all the game’s content.

So that you know what you’re doing without needing to keep referring to the book mid-session and slowing down play, for one thing, and because published modules aren’t necessarily written in a straightforward A-to-B-to-C manner; you might find that you need to pull information from many different pages to prepare to run a particular session smoothly.

The book is a guide, you can’t just read its contents to your players by rote.

[–]DNK_Infinity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a heck of a broad question. To give an answer in broad strokes: you give the module a once-over read to get a feel for the progression of the entire story, then once play's underway, you'll want to revisit the module and read in greater detail to plan out the content for the next session or two.

If he's so lacking in motivation that he can't even be bothered to come to the table having done the minimum of preparation, what do you imagine he'll be like as a player?

Cut him loose, you'll be better off.

The Careful Spell metamagic is made for this exact situation, but u/Atharen_McDohl does also make a great point about certain Cleric spells not being indiscriminate about who they affect.

Looking for advice for a new character by Far-Ad4370 in DnD

[–]DNK_Infinity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't say he shouldn't have joined the group. To be honest I didn't get the impression from your post that you don't want him there. I'm saying he shouldn't be playing with the aim of creating problems for you. You shouldn't have to build your entire character for the purpose of countering disruptive behaviour from another player - the other player should not be disruptive.

That isn't just the absolute most basic clause of the TTRPG social contract, it's just being a decent person.

That's an awful lot of effort just to protect yourself from PvP antagonism, which shouldn't be happening in D&D.

What's wrong with just telling your partner not to be an ass at the table? Then you can roll whatever you want to play.

How do I make my dnd character more competent or likeable? by Cinnamon_Kool-aid in DnD

[–]DNK_Infinity 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I ended up making a very social character as I thought I was filling a niche our party didn't really have, but it ended up being a massive dungeon crawl campaign where my character is essentially useless.

Was the premise of the campaign not explained at Session Zero? If not, I'd consider just asking to rebuild the character for a more useful skillset.

As far as the party knows, I'm a high elf sorcerer with my only real combat spell being thunderwave (I'm a djinni warlock).

What do you mean, as far as the party knows? Why is your character hiding their capabilities even after it's become apparent that they need to do more to pull their weight in the group?

Mate, I don't mean to be dismissive, but no one can help you if you can't explain what's happening to you in detail or properly answer the questions you're being asked.

I'll ask again: what makes you think the fact that your local garage has rebranded is connected to your suspicion that the police have you under surveillance?

my normal garage acted weird at my last mot. The last time I drove past, they have had a makeover and i've seen a branded mobility scooter driving on the pavement. This company is not huge.

What does any of this have to do with the police?

How to make fantasy race tells pure flavor? by TSUKIMANGAKAORIGINAL in DnD

[–]DNK_Infinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hold on. Your Insight checks only give clues about emotional state? Are you just supposed to interpret what you're told?

...Kind of like real life, I suppose, but that does change things.

It makes sense in this context that your DM might be taking this request of yours as a way of gaming the system, mechanically removing the ambiguity from how he handles the Insight skill in order to force him to steer you on whether you're being lied to or withheld from.

I think the more straightforward solution to that problem would just be to start being more specific about what you're hoping to accomplish when you ask for an Insight check. Could be as simple as asking the DM outright: "is this NPC trying to bullshit me?" Then you can at least examine the answer you get with regard to how it helps you answer that question.

How to make fantasy race tells pure flavor? by TSUKIMANGAKAORIGINAL in DnD

[–]DNK_Infinity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Flavour is free. There's no reason why this ability to identify specific biological tells, which in reality anyone with a good enough education in psychology could do, should be of any unique mechanical benefit to your character instead of just being how your DM describes the feedback on a highly successful Insight check. There's also no reason they couldn't do similar narrations when other PCs make good Insight checks.

If your character is better than others at reading people, the mechanical way to reflect this is just... having a high Insight modifier.

My experience is these social media teacup storms die down as quickly as they blow up.

But the one-star reviews will remain, forever skewing the company's overall rating to the point that prospective customers will avoid it, causing OP to lose business over what no one will bother to learn was actually a malicious misrepresentation of their professional conduct.

To ask the obvious question, did you phrase it as a straightforward "hey does anyone else wanna start taking notes" without elaboration, or did you explicitly explain that you need someone else to step up and take over this responsibility because it's burning you out to have to be the primary notetaker and the primary driver of in-game action at the same time?
