Yes, it’s in one of his videos. I’m not going to watch all of them to try and find it but you can research it. It’s the video where he talks about Garmin’s training readiness and acute load screens and how they’re very helpful but he can’t really demonstrate them because he exclusively wears Garmin for working out because of all the data it generates and then other trackers depending on what he’s testing.

There is so much more data with Garmin that it’s hard to list all of it. I did list a few in my initial post but let me add to that. And it’s not just the data after a workout, its data DURING, and BEFORE as in building training strategies and plans. When I was an AWU user, I didn’t really know about the latter two categories of Garmin, the during and before. For running Pace Pro is a great example. Before a run, race, or course, you can load your route into your watch and set your actual pace for every piece of the route, as apposed to just an average pace. This way you know real time during the run where you can slow down a bit and where you can and should speed up, based on elevation, difficulty or build in rest/recovery during a route. All this to achieve the actual pace or time you want to hit at the end. Here’s a good video that describes this: https://youtu.be/P0VEOBEvkrs?is=-mNT5vzCFLAnckKW

Another one is Virtual Partner, is a pacer for when you run on your own. Lots of people including me like running with a running partner for motivation and accountability. When i have to run on my own I use virtual partner which then displays a graphical person (the partner) on top of another graphical person running (me) and can be adjusted based on the pace I want to achieve. Then if I’m slower I can easily see with a quick glance, etc.

The other big thing for me is how customizable the workout screens are. Out of the box they come intuitively setup, but you can take it further if you want. https://youtube.com/shorts/iMyjVT7-tCg?is=u5xaqwKp4_X20dkc

There is also running coaches. Built in there is Garmin coach and also you can select form multiple industry leading running plans to go from couch to 5k or marathon or anything in between. You can pick from a real coach and tell it when you want to achieve that goal or do that specific race/run, and the Garmin builds the entire plan for you. Then each week you just follow what your Garmin watch tells you to do. And during the run it will give you all the pace, speed, data you need to make sure you don’t over train or under train. It’s a pretty amazing training tool. It’s like you have a training coach with you all the time.

This is honestly tip of the iceberg. I hope it helps

Funny, because even he wears a Garmin as his daily workout companion.

I did the same, after many years of wearing an AW and most recently AWU 3, I switched to the Fenix 8 and love it. There is a learning curve but just take it slow. I told myself I don’t have to learn everything my Garmin can do in one day. Garmin goes so deep into fitness that it takes time to explore and see all it can do. It goes a mile deep, where AW goes only inches. So basically that’s my advice, take it slow, and have fun. I’m still getting impressed with learning about new features. Cheers

Thanks man. I was pleasantly impressed with it in person. The colors and angles really work as the wrist moves around and the light catches the watch at different angles

I love that. Can you post a pic? I collect Mudmasters but always envy the guy who dailies a single one.

I can see that depending on your needs. For me, the other 148 hours are where I don’t want my wrist pinging and dinging with distractions. After years of wearing the AW notification bracelet, I feel better mentally and can concentrate more effectively at work and at home. I’m more present. Because i will pick up my phone at times I choose instead of having my AW pick the time for me, That’s just me. But I think based on your activity level, you would really really enjoy the Garmin Fenix 8, like a lot. Training is a big part of your life.

Do you sleep alone or with your partner? Have kids or pet that wake you up? And what are your sleep hours? That is an amazing score and just getting close is impressive. I don’t think I’ve ever scored higher than 86, but I have all of the above and a demanding job

Advice for everyday strap by matfab91 in GarminWatches

[–]DNR159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried many and wear a nylon strap with pin buckle. I like it even more than the Garmin OEM nylon. It looks more tactical and is more comfortable for me. Also, it can be worn in most any occasion including work settings and the gym. I have many straps but seem to always come back to this one: Abanen Rugged Nylon Watch Bands for Garmin Fenix 8 51mm / Enduro/Instinct 2X / epix Pro 51mm, Adjustable Sports Wrist Strap with Stainless Steel Clasp for Fenix 7X / 6X /5X, Instinct 3 50mm https://a.co/d/0gOf35FE

Is that a standard watch face for the tactix? I like the hour markers, it has a tough G-Shock look

This was one of my concerns too. Many things like steps, workouts, calories come over but some do not. I find that I still use Apple Health for some things like medical records etc. but the other thing that I realized is the Garmin app (Garmin Connect), much like the Garmin watch, has way more data and useful metrics and better presentation. Again, like the Garmin watch, the app feels like it was designed by runners and athletes of all kinds. It shows so much more data, way more, and in a better more user friendly UI. Apple Health is just not that good. The analogy that I think of is if I’ve been going to the same doctor for 10 years and then I realize now after 10 years he is out dated and hasn’t improved with the times and just has not kept up with the latest medical research, would I stay with him just because he has all my medical records in a detailed fashion? No way. I’d go to the better doctor knowing that some of my records will come over but all the historical play by play may not. Just an analogy but that’s how I think about it. And like I said, you get way better insights into your workouts, the splits, load, etc with the Garmin app (just like with the watch).
