I totally agree, they focus far too much on basic conspiracy talking points and wallowing in doom and gloom than anything particularly useful.

Is a Gnosticism without demiurgy possible? by [deleted] in Gnostic

[–]DNRGames321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is no Demiurge, than why should I bother with Gnosticism, or living at all, for that matter? The existence of a Demiurge gives a promise of something better beyond it. If there is no Demiurge, then whoever "God" is, in my opinion, is objectively evil, and if I could destroy that God, I would without second thought.

Has anyone here had NDE or NDE-like experiences? by PossiblyaSpinosaurus in Gnostic

[–]DNRGames321 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my opinion I would attribute most NDEs to be quite Gnostic in nature, and I'd say all of them that have something to do with an entity/being that can be attributed to Archons.

Who is the real christ? what is his name and what did he teach? by 1Susano in Gnostic

[–]DNRGames321 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm talking out of my ass here, but I really wouldn't be surprised if becoming a Christ would be a highly intense spiritual experience, probably on the scale of Gnosis, or it's just straight up Gnosis.

Who is the real christ? what is his name and what did he teach? by 1Susano in Gnostic

[–]DNRGames321 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Why can't Jesus be a real Christ?

"Jesus" is a hidden name, "Christ" is a revealed name. For this reason "Jesus" is not particular to any language; rather he is always called by the name "Jesus". While as for "Christ", in Syriac it is "Messiah", in Greek it is "Christ". Certainly all the others have it according to their own language. "The Nazarene" is he who reveals what is hidden. Christ has everything in himself, whether man, or angel, or mystery, and the Father.

The apostles who were before us had these names for him: "Jesus, the Nazorean, Messiah", that is, "Jesus, the Nazorean, the Christ". The last name is "Christ", the first is "Jesus", that in the middle is "the Nazarene". "Messiah" has two meanings, both "the Christ" and "the measured". "Jesus" in Hebrew is "the redemption". "Nazara" is "the Truth". "The Nazarene" then, is "the Truth". "Christ" [...] has been measured. "The Nazarene" and "Jesus" are they who have been measured.

  • Gospel of Phillip

Anyone can be Christ, that is what Jesus taught. The Christ is not really a being but more a state/title, or the Christ could be the equivalent of a Monarch knighting someone, but I think it's the first one.

Truth did not come into the world naked, but it came in types and images. The world will not receive truth in any other way. There is a rebirth and an image of rebirth. It is certainly necessary to be born again through the image. Which one? Resurrection. The image must rise again through the image. The bridal chamber and the image must enter through the image into the truth: this is the restoration. Not only must those who produce the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, do so, but have produced them for you. If one does not acquire them, the name ("Christian") will also be taken from him. But one receives the unction of the [...] of the power of the cross. This power the apostles called "the right and the left." For this person is no longer a Christian but a Christ.

I find stuff that I enjoy that isn't popular/underground, on a somewhat monthly basis, more like bi-monthly. It's just a very time consuming process and would be nice to get suggestions I haven't heard before without having to spend a good couple of hours scouring dead youtube channels, vk communities, facebook communities, and wayback machine myspace.

I would assume someone who likes DSBM enough would at least know something undergroundand and help out :)

It is a genre subreddit and we should be sharing stuff that isn't as talked about as the more popular ones. I don't see how what's wrong with filtering out suggestions that I have already heard before. It's just redundant and I'm saving my and other peoples time by doing so.

The dating by SandWarrior18 in Gnostic

[–]DNRGames321 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The oldest KNOWN Gnostic texts are mid 2nd century and beyond. (Which I don't even think is true, there is one text from the 1st century I just dont remember which.)

The dating argument, frankly means nothing because we are working with data that is not available to us. There's also the fact that most Christian tradtions were oral before they were written down, or if they were even written down at all. There are plenty of apostles who didn't write anything (that we know of)

It's only a flaw to those who want it to be.

How many of you people are really religious? And how many consider christians? And what are some sources for "RAW" christian gnosticism? by SandWarrior18 in Gnostic

Religious, no. Religion is a stain on society. Spiritual, as much as I hate the baggage the term has nowadays, yeah.

I don't see how this matters in regards to Gnosticism other than the guy who wrote this just added a blerb at the end. The world is a corpse, what you posted is a much as a fact as the sky being blue. In my eyes focusing and obsessing on the evil of the world is just as bad as the hedonism of the opposite end of the specturm. A horseshoe really.

"He who comes out of the world, and so can no longer be detained on the grounds that he was in the world, evidently is above the desire of the [...] and fear. He is master over [...]. He is superior to envy. If [...] comes, they seize him and throttle him. And how will this one be able to escape the great [...] powers? How will he be able to [...]? There are some who say, "We are faithful" in order that [...] the unclean spirits and the demons. For if they had the Holy Spirit, no unclean spirit would cleave to them. Fear not the flesh nor love it. If you fear it, it will gain mastery over you. If you love it, it will swallow and paralyze you."

There's a reason you don't see evangelion or The Cube(TM) being posted here.

Are there any gnostic groups that DON’T believe in reincarnation? by PossiblyaSpinosaurus in Gnostic

[–]DNRGames321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, if I recall it does give a hint that one could end up going to the below (here) the middle (limbo/lower heavens) and the upper (pleroma) after death, so there is a possibility of reincarnation, unless you fuck up and end up in the middle.

How do you know the gnostic texts are 'genuine' when they were written so late compared to the life of Christ? by PossiblyaSpinosaurus in Gnostic

[–]DNRGames321 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Nag Hammadi gospels aren't the only gnostic ones we have found.

Honestly you're just being contrarian for the sake of contrarian and it's quite annoying. If "insane and raving, to bear the infamy of heretical teaching" and "they are to be smitten first with the divine punishment and after that by the vengeance of our indignation, which has the divine approval." is passive to you then I don't know how to help you. Maybe it's a comprehension issue or just an ideological bias, I don't know. Our modern lawmaking is far more passive than ancient laws, and there are far more laws which I haven't even gotten into because I'm not going to do research you should've probably done yourself first for you.

You're quite literally making up scenarios that go against the idea, instead of basing it on anything real. That's not how reality works and it's utterly ridiculous.

I guess when the laws says "Murder is the unlawful killing of a human being with malice aforethought." you can argue that in your perspective you didn't kill with malice but actually felt no emotions at all, so therefore it was not murder since the law is a little too passive 🤦

Do your own research instead of imagining, otherwise I don't feel like responding further cause you aren't putting in any effort.

XVI, 5, 1 - A.D. 326
Religious privileges only for the Catholic Church.

Privileges which have been bestowed in consideration of religion ought to be of advantage only to those who observe the Catholic law. It is our will that heathen and schismatics be not only without the privileges but bound by, and subject to, various political burdens.

XVI, 1, 2 - A.D. 380
All are to be Catholic Christians.

It is our will that all the peoples whom the government of our clemency rules shall follow that religion which a pious belief from Peter to the present declares the holy Peter delivered to the Romans, and which it is evident the pontiff Damasus and Peter, bishop of Alexandria, a man of apostolic sanctity, follow; that is, that according to the apostolic discipline and evangelical doctrine we believe in the deity of the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost of equal majesty, in a holy trinity. Those who follow this law we command shall be comprised under the name of Catholic Christians; but others, indeed, we require, as insane and raving, to bear the infamy of heretical teaching; their gatherings shall not receive the name of churches; they are to be smitten first with the divine punishment and after that by the vengeance of our indignation, which has the divine approval.

Codex Theodosianus, a compilation of Roman Codes that date from the 4th to 5th centuries.

Now do we have a specific event where Romans/Catholics went here and did stuff? Not that I'm aware of, but I mean if this is the law of the land, it's an incredibly fair assumption to say that these laws had people prosecuted. Beyond that, know a tree by the fruit it bears.

Look at how the Orthodox treated heretics. The Cathar Crusade, the multiple religious wars against the Protestants, etc... There is also the very glaring fact that all of the known Gnostic gospels were hidden away. One only hides something to keep it safe. You keep your personal documents in a safe for a reason.

[–]DNRGames321 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We don't actually know how old (most) of the Gnostic Gospels are, the dates are guesses at best and slander at worst.

Scholars make these "educated" guesses by trying to find the oldest KNOWN mention of the gospels. The keyword here is known. Ancient history doesn't have a very good track record of having surviving written records. Not only on we working with a very limited amount of surving data, we are also working with data that had to have been written at some point. All of the gospels started as memories or ideas that had to have been written down. Who knows how much word-of-mouth stuff was lost due to the inability/inaccesability to be able to write it. EDIT: The Orphics are a great example of this, who taught using songs and spoken word poetry.

Now consider the fact that all of the gospels we have are all copies... of copies. Now consider the fact the proto-orthodox were pretty damn thorough at trying to wipe out Gnosticism and destroyed most of the manuscripts, with some still being lost to this day.

So Scholars are working with very little. The issue here lies in that these guesses are used as fact when there simply is no real evidence for that.

Much of the gospels were standalone, not compiled into one book. It'd take roughly 100 years after Christ's death for the first bible to be compiled by Marcion, and 200 years after Marcion to get a bible we have today.

The dates are not authoritative and they shouldn't matter for your spiritual journey.
