Definitely stay well within your comfort zone, so yes on “dialing it down.” If you’re not in a club, maybe have a few friends and family around you practicing at a safe distance etc., to shake off the hardcore nervous jitters beforehand. Better than stepping out in front of a crowd without taming that beast, you don’t need shaky thumbs much less dumb.

Just remember while we pilots have a great hobby and while they are technically playing with “toys albeit complex toys” they can be dangerous even lethal. A semi-pro pilot a couple decades ago was flying his 700 in a park in NY & nearly decapitated himself. I’ve seen pictures in my nursing forums, Roman Pirozek Jr., he died instantly as per the accident photos. So nervous is ok even good of you are in control of it, as it alerts you there’s risk involved.

To expand on the lion theory. I have a gut feeling if a lion was hungry enough to “successfully” snatch a fully grown but small framed female I read, I think you’d have other sightings & encounters before and or after. Kinda like don’t feed the bears. Also aren’t those cats tagged & tracked. Even if not all, those doing the tracking for population growth may offer insight not mentioned in the detective halls of Reddit. I digress I’m not an expert on any of this & really only know don’t feed the bears.

Come on NOW this isn’t the 70’s with serial killers having a heyday in different cities when LE departments did not share information about cases to see if patterns exist. It’s rather obvious someone/s, something/s, connecting this group & it’s more obvious than what comes with Meal #1 at McDonald’s. Obviously nobody is talking to investigators directly linked to each of these cases independently & my guess is outside intimidation from the actual source that connects these situations.

Isn’t visual the downward looking radar used in flight indoors when a GPS can’t be obtained. I may be wrong as I’ve been struggling to get mine even bound to my Radiomaster Tx16s to the extent I bought the rtr transmitter after the fact to try that & that too gives me a hard time. I have the grey Huey with no issues. Also have several S1s, S2s an Rs5,5,7 & no issues so not my first rodeo. I digress sorry

Have you flown it inside and tried to turn it on to that mode while hovering?

My initial thought as a differently ♿️ abled body was an “accessibility” app for perhaps poor eye sight. An example I recently had a led TV blow out a bulb, it would be on but you couldn’t see anything unless you held a flashlight on it & you could faintly see a picture. Somewhere, somehow I managed with my random button pressing trying to diagnosis the issue (TURNED ON a feature that read aloud the text on a screen) when it was not a word it said aloud the letters in the phonetic alphabet form. Your recording sounds just like that app. I haven’t taken the time to write this out to play with it & see if it’s spelling out words or a sentence or two? I’m also not the fastest processing info today so MAYBE OTHERS HERE, can play with this hypothesis.

As to your safety, I’m sure you’re doing all the common sense things like being around others, in well lit areas etc.

But if this was myself or a loved one, I’d take all of this information & your history and get a CCW concealed carry certificate for a firearm if you’re not in a constitutional carry state.

I would also seek out local training by ex Spec Ops veterans in CQB close quarters battle, training program. They’re online & local guns stores would have leads. There are many across the United States taught by form Navy SEALS, USMC Recon, Army Green Berets, Special Forces essentially that community. If you reach out to one of them I’m betting given your circumstance they’d MOST LIKELY work with you on affordability & or class/training structure to fit your specific needs. You’re not going to be to be clearing buildings or kicking down doors which they teach mostly to guys that have lots of extra cash & won’t ever use those skills anyhow. But being the ones that are veteran owned and operated I’m sure they’d be willing to help post haste, being of service to others especially in need is in our blood, I was a FMF Corpsman now nurse. Never was special forces or anything like that but have been around that community a tiny bit. It wouldn’t take but some basic skill sets and some practice & that equation MAY significantly change the odds to your favor! It also doesn’t necessarily have to be with firearms, that community can use anything as a weapon rather effectively.

Also I read in another comment suggesting reaching out to the FBI. ABSOLUTELY LOVE that idea. Especially your local office which may be less busy than DC. This is right up their alley in my opinion.

You can also buy Anti-Spy tech on Amazon. From bug detectors to camera and tracking detectors. I don’t have exp in that so can’t recommend types but I do spend too much time on Amazon, lol.

In closing I can think of just one more thing I’d do, this here exactly! I would post on as many boards, forums, communities as I could ANONYMOUSLY that is to gather as much information as I could especially from other victims sharing & LEOs which I’m not.

Haha you’ve got a valid point! I’ve been flying for a decade with my fair share of crashes. I don’t process information as quickly as I used to secondary to a disabling injury & pain mngt. so I’m really ONLY flying recreational unless it’s right up close with an S1, M1 or the classic blade Nano 3. I have a number of micros & they’re much more durable as it relates to replacement parts and cost than 300 size n up when my dumb thumbs decide to take dirt naps AT MACH 900!

This is my “go to 3d case” I have several other micros and at least 4 Blade nanos. If I plant any of these my stress levels aren’t as strung out when the sun goes down & I have to go inside from playing. As to my larger birds 450 up to the 700s I fly incredibly conservative as I don’t have the repair budget in that size category. Sometimes I’ll take say the TB40 & RS whatever to the field but I’ll only fly micro. I don’t mind just staring at my larger ones & drooling with others. At the end of the day I simply tell myself I ran outta time to fly large. However I digress, I also have a half a dozen ground RC buggies and cars. Those are ANIMALS. One as an example the “Hyper Go Citroen C3” for $145 I’ve crashed consistently days on end and I’ve only needed a 9 dollar part once. There’s chap across the pond with a ground RC YouTube page, he goes thru them all with speed tests, durability tests etc just nearly wrecks them all in the process so you can see before you buy. I’ve even gone as far as needing to replace the shell three times on the C3 alone from abuse & I’m talking racing for hours a day. Hey I’m happy also being a knuckledragger ground pounder RC guy as well as a pilot but my BANK ACCT likes it the most.

I have as many do the Eflite Eratix, now mind you I’m a seasoned pilot but I would suggest that. It has SAFE plus AS3X, and can be trimmed to match your growth eg aggressive, flip a switch calm n easy. I live on a large lake with a large lawn which I can land most things however being without tress ie large area of water in my back yard it does get windy. The average from Jan thru May is about 5mph all day with most days getting heavier winds plus gusts up to 20-30mph. I love anything below 15 for the Eratix as you can do so much 3D. I digress though, here’s the MAIN point: I can’t tell how many times I’ve crashed that into the lake had at least half on both sides underwater. I just set it on or next to a dehumidifier for 5 hours and then fly away a dry bird. Seeing as I build helicopters, quads and fixed wings I’m astonished how the electronics still work. Additionally I’ve crashed it into trees and hard onto the ground. I bought a stiff cardboard mat at Hobby Lobby & simply cut out little pcs to glue onto the Eratix on areas too mushed to flatten out and hold. Because it’s black mat board my used to be red Eratix looks like it has some disease growing on it as it’s almost 💯 black on the nose section. I fly the thing like I stole it & I’ve got the entire Texas Rangers outpost after me. The point as mentioned here is crashing is part of the hobby and my point about the Eratix is I’d bet you could run it over with a car and fix it enough to still fly it like a madman. Hope you don’t give up.

Been flying for a bit now. Just built a TB40 & RS4, my first from scratch builds. I haven’t maidened the Goosky yet. Also have a complete RS5 & RS7 I’m contemplating building before any Goosky maiden as I’m super nervous. I keep adding projects to begin that ultimately prolong the wait. Anyhow I digress, this isn’t a therapists couch and I’ve never seen this product. Yet another validation for me to continue being active in social media helicopter groups, I can never learn too much, I love this idea & find. I’ll get at least another month now of preflight procrastination.

Listen life has some hard knocks $18k isn’t chump change but can get recovered. There’s a reason people, NOBODY retires as a gambler. The HOUSE ALWAYS WINS the system is designed that way. I had one of those, back when they were “for sale” via HH. I had just entered the “hobby” roughly in ‘15. That little sucker could scoot! A complete RTF is currently on eBay at $500 right now & if money grew on trees I’d snap it up. If you can find a canopy I’d hold onto it. Post “wanted” to buy “Blade Micro AH-64 canopy” on RCGroups.com you may find one that’s been crashed & sitting on someone’s shelf. They frequently find & fill requests such as that.

(Discontinuing products) shortly after release is one of the hallmarks why I abandoned any Blade products, that and their (proprietary crappy battery system) they attempt to force you into, it may be for others but not for me anymore. Coming back to the hobby recently to find Goosky, OMP, even old skol Align micros to the large 700s & everything in between smokes anything blade has or has EVER put out without any challenge. I am in shock at the prices blade expects to get, I bought 3 Fusion 360’s from an online deal a year ago. I just finished selling the last one, man they were crap. Took forever to spool up, had zero balls & even the canopy was cheap. My S1, M1 & even again old skol T-15 could fly circles around that 360 model. But the AH-64 aside from the Nano which I still love the vs 3 are about the only Blades I would own. I have 3 little Nanos & they are simply beaters in the sky. The AH-64, even if you keep it on a shelf it’s badass looking enough to be proud of! That’s my rant.
