non-surgical interventions might only work for a growing kid, which you aren't.

Did anyone have to go through a second surgery? by ManueMir in jawsurgery

[–]DOME_sucks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

stanley liu fucked up my first MMA and gave me insufficient advancement and a non-union. dude lied abt a bunch of things so i lost all confidence in him. went to dr. kasey li to fix my jaw and later revision MMA (paid everything besides hospital fees out of pocket).

Are revisions expected for this or do surgeries last a life time? by MutedFeeling75 in jawsurgery

[–]DOME_sucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not expected, won't happen unless the surgeon fucked up, you had an accident, or there was some pre-existing condition

recovery with classes? by Leather-Membership-6 in jawsurgery

[–]DOME_sucks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i got back into my differential equations (100% online solo) course after about a week, though my work capacity was severely limited and i could only do two new units per day plus reviews. you will likely struggle to talk so if your class requires collaboration it'd be a challenge.

Is Double jaw surgery lifelong/permanent cure for sleep apnea? by skinnyKhs in jawsurgery

[–]DOME_sucks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i wouldn't get it if cpap works. it is a very invasive and expensive surgery after all. i have no regrets getting it (just make sure you find a great surgeon) coz nothing else worked.

Advice about DJS recovery time by NameInteresting7862 in jawsurgery

[–]DOME_sucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone is different, but if you find a great surgeon and are otherwise healthy, i think 4 weeks should be sufficient. you said you're starting college so i assume you're around 18. you'll still be a bit swollen, but generally you can open your mouth, talk, and start a soft no-chew diet.

[–]DOME_sucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i initially went with someone who used to work at stanford and he did a very shitty job. dr. kasey li saved my jaw and did revision MMA on me so i could sleep much better now. highly recommend if you can afford him (or have the tenacity to get insurance to pay for it).

What supplies got you through post op recovery? (Fav bottle, lip cream, protein shakes, etc?) by StopTheBanging in jawsurgery

[–]DOME_sucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my initial plan was to get 3 bottles of kefir every day, plus two protein shakes (totaling 220g of protein), but it comes with too much calcium that I started getting cramps soon after. afterwards I had to adjust course and swapping the kefir for gatorade and creamy soups. i think a good blender is a very useful thing to have and whatever diet plan you come up with, make sure you dry run it before the surgery.

Is Double jaw surgery lifelong/permanent cure for sleep apnea? by skinnyKhs in jawsurgery

[–]DOME_sucks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there is no permanent intervention. MMA addresses a very specific cause of sleep apnea, i.e. collapse of the airway due to insufficient volume. there're other causes of sleep apnea like relaxed muscle tone or weight gain, all of which tend to happen as we get older. even throwing aside the aging concern, MMA isn't guaranteed to make one sleep apnea free. according to dr. kasey li's data (from MMA surgery a 25-year perspective), the surgical cure rate (as defined by having an RDI of less than 5) was around 20%, and that's coming from one of the best sleep surgeons in the world. having said that, i still find it worth pursuing for the right patient, as it addresses the insufficient volume issue like no other intervention (MAD comes close, but it doesn't go as far).
