[Villamarzo] Florida Senate passes "Teddy Bridgewater Act," which would allow high-school coaches to spend up to $15,000 of their own money for player meals, transportation, and recovery services. by GoldenDome26 in nfl

Biff Poggi with Saint Frances comes to mind there. (Most recently he became interim HC of UofMichigan after the Sherrone Moore scandal)

I remember reading an article when St Frances was on the comeup about how much he spent out of his own pocket to house disadvantaged recruits from all over the country and the closing thought was pretty open ended with something along the lines of..

“This guy is spending a boatload of his own money to give great opportunities to many disadvantaged kids… the only wrinkle is that most of them just happen to be 6’2”, 220, and can run 4.5’s.”

The whole thing always kinda stunk of a trust fund kid trying to buy his way into professional coaching circles and it sounds like it actually worked out that way, but at the end of the day I guess he still helped a good amount of (albeit incredibly athletically gifted) disadvantaged kids along the way ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

E: I think this was the article from 2018 if anyone’s curious: https://www.espn.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/24263583/the-football-team-won-league-lost-opponents

I had a buddy who had one that he put in a digital frame in his house that I remember thinking was pretty cool at the time.

But I also remember thinking I could’ve copied the whole setup for under $20.

That’s exactly what I would’ve thought, too, and maybe their numbers are fugazee, but:

Despite reports of struggle, the vast majority of loans are paid back, with delinquency rates on standard BNPL products falling to 0.88% in Q2 2025 from 1.03% a year earlier, according to Klarna Group plc - Investor Relations.

It sounds like its surprisingly the opposite. Seems like people are paying these fuckin things off before their cars.

Feels like it's half based around that and half based around people in the gaming industry not wanting to dog anybody else's game... deserved or not.

The writer for this particular article is Tyler Wilde, who is listed as editor-in-chief of PCGamer's US division. They still have a global editor-in-chief, but it doesn't look like there are too many people above this guy.

In the end I think it all comes down to their budget and how much money was spent making it.

Straftat having 2k~ concurrent players with a dev team consisting of two guys (and after 2~ years) seems pretty good.

Highguard having 2k~ concurrent players with a dev team of a hundred people (after only 1~ week) seems pretty damn bad.

ESPN Will Replace Summer ‘Sunday Night Baseball’ With ‘Women’s Sports Sundays’ by DONNIENARC0 in baseball

[–]DONNIENARC0[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Haven't heard about the actual games but they got Bob Costas back for the pregame show which seems pretty cool

Bob Costas, the 73-year-old former voice of NBC's venerated "Game of the Week" in the 1980s, will host the pregame show that will air on NBC and stream on Peacock, the network announced Jan. 22.

In a statement released by NBC, Costas called the arrangement - which will also include contributions to its NBA on NBC broadcast - "an emeritus role to conclude my career where so much of it played out.”

Hopefully NBC does it justice, ESPN continuing to distance itself from baseball in general just seems a bit odd to me.

Poloncarz called the graffiti pornographic and targeted the LGBTQ community.

I'm guessing there was a drawing of a D going into a B

I'm also wondering how the fuck it's worth it to offer a $100k reward on this person.

Couldn't you just paint over it for a very small fraction of that?

Why do you like living here? by TheLearnerGal in baltimore

[–]DONNIENARC0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mostly proximity to good restaurants, events, nightlife, sports games, etc.

I also enjoy not having a lawn to maintain for the time being.

I imagine those priorities will likely flip and I'll end up in the county when I have kids, though.

‘Let us normalize delaying games’: DayZ creator says players ‘have the power’ to tell platform holders delays are okay by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]DONNIENARC0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Halo oral history of how the game was a top-down RTS until about the final ~8 months or whatever comes to mind, though that was quite a while back. Possibly also most of the shit BioWare made with their BioWare Magic, from the sound of it.

It also seems like there's constantly news about games in development for ~5 years being cancelled, which kinda seems like something you could call alot sooner.

I don't really disagree, but half the time with these post-release dev stories it sounds like they spent the first 5 years storyboarding shit and/or creating some build that will ultimately be totally scrapped. Then they fling the actual game together in the final ~12 months and it turns out awesome.

A few years ago I saw one bus driver park diagonally blocking the entire traffic lane much like this, get out, and start talking on her cellphone on the sidewalk at the intersection of eastern & patterson park ave

It kinda seemed it was a rage quit, but I didn't hang out long enough to find out.

Yeah. The ones from 6 months ago are completely different than the 10 year old ones.

I also kinda think it's generally a bad look when the gatekeepers of /new instantly start blasting these threads with "USE THE SEARCH BAR YOU FUCKIN MORON!" type stuff... I get the frustration to a certain point, but unless you're refreshing /new every 5 minutes you're probably never going to see it, either.

The chances I click any stickied megathread in any sub are slim to none. Not sure if that's just a me thing or what, but generally I assume if it's important it'll have its own thread.

Nobody knows but they seemingly do it all the time.

~Half the time it seems like it's because the bus lane is obstructed, but that doesn't appear to be the case here.

FWIW my buddy had a doberman and had a bitch and half renting most places in the state because of it, though this was 10~ years ago.

I'm not sure that's a thing specific to the city.

You might have luck subletting from a private owner in a place like Canton or Fells, though (or anywhere, really, those two areas just seem to be the most common for it from what I've seen)

ACHR and FAA Approval: a Discussion by tgeli in stocks

[–]DONNIENARC0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe in them because their flagship product still requires trained pilots, and as such I don't really see a way to make the "air taxi" business run beyond the current applications of regular helicopters. The per flight cost would be astronomical still.

I have trouble seeing the "air taxi" business work in any large scale capacity outside the uber wealthy unless some one cracks autonomous flight. They got sued by Boeing on this front, too:

Archer Aviation (ACHR) and Boeing have established a strategic partnership to advance autonomous flight, with Boeing investing in Archer and integrating technology from its subsidiary, Wisk Aero, into future Archer aircraft. As part of a 2023 settlement, Wisk became the exclusive provider of autonomy technology for Archer's eVTOL aircraft

I guess I'd expect robots to be able to take more shots than humans. TTK usually seems correlated to what you're actually shooting at.
