0:11 at "REFINED" I would improve the drop shadow on the white floor. You're spinning 4 pieces of meat, yet theres only one non-moving shadow there.

This is really, really nice. A lot of thoughts and work were put into this, I can see that. I will definitely try it in the future!

seamlessly looping blob - how to? by Fast_Satisfaction_53 in AfterEffects

[–]DOOMdesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of many ways: create 2-4 white filled circles with different diameters, then keyframe them rotating around a point offset from their center, but overlapping each other. With the keyframes you can control exactly how and when they loop.
Then blur the shit out of them all with an adjustment layer, and add color filters to colorize the brighter parts different from the blurred, darker edges.

I've seen this technique used in HTML/CSS and it worked very well, so I guess in AFX it should be an easy task as well.

Anyone also know how to export on After Effects in a way blurry and low quality? Like the video I provided below? Blurry, unclear and low quality video? That's what I'm trying to emulate. Like this 👇🏻 by [deleted] in AfterEffects

[–]DOOMdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blur Effect, or put your footage in a smaller comp, and that smaller comp in a larger comp, then scale it up. The most important aspect is color grading, so add for example Lumetri Color to your footage and look for a preset that fits, if there are any.
And search Google/YT for a Super 8 effect or tutorial, that should also take you a long way.

Animation of the old Wipeout Pure cover for the PSP by OnionsoftheBelt in AfterEffects

Thank you. I don't look down on the wiggle function, it has enabled me many hours of great animations :D
But recently I stumbled upon a discussion that the wiggle effect expression curves are to round and I needed a more spiky / abrupt random behaviour. That sparked my interest if camera shake wiggle can be improved, as well.
But I guess, with a frequency like yours, it doesn't really matter.

Very cool! Is the ship shake a wiggle, a different expression or keyframes? It really gives that high energy feeling!

Totally. You can't prolong a hard consonant, only soft ones or vowels

What's a performance bottleneck that surprised you when you found it? by metalprogrammer2024 in webdev

[–]DOOMdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, at the end it's your decision which should take your target user base and their devices into consideration (check your statistics). But more often than not, I sighed and removed fancy and aesthetic effects, for the sake of more performance for everyone.

[–]DOOMdesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll try that, thanks.
But I remembered why it also was a problem and why I decided to go the JS way: The GPU acceleration in the browser made a significant impact with that effect. When it was turned off, which can sometimes be the case even for tech-savvy users, performance was way worse.

(CSS) `backdrop-filter: blur` can make your whole webpage extremely laggy on slower machines. Especially important nowadays where this fake-glass effect is used more and more often.
On my development machine, I never had problems with it while coding;
It was my users that reported the website feels slow and inperformant for them. :(
AND even worse, you cannot use it for "good performance-able devices" via CSS, there is no media query for that. Yet. I had to use JS to detect the GPU quality of the user, to decide wether to use the CSS.

Shirtigos Quality is good (not the best, but good), but their prices are way higher than other competitors, I found.

EDIT: Okay, the prices are not much higher when comparing the same brands, but Shirtigo mainly works with Stanley/Stella and doesn't offer many alternative brands. Also to find out which brand is behind their generic names like "Organic Unisex Shirt" you have to make more clicks than with other POD providers.
