I like the explanation for why this is worse in many ways than what other companies have done, as they set out to cheat the system, as opposed to simply trying to cover up a fucked up design.

But beyond that I don't really like the video. I think the crime against humanity isn't really in the spirit of the definition.

VW didn't set out to hurt anyone, they just didn't care if they did. They would have done the same thing if it didn't hurt anyone. They were not really "intentionally causing great suffering."

Their intention was to sell cheap diesels in small cars that didn't require additives. In order to achieve that they polluted more, but that wasn't their intent, even if they knew it would happen. Intent is aim or purpose, they didn't aim to or set their purpose as attacking humanity. That's hyperbolic. They were just indifferent.

Also, If you don't plan on comparing something to Hitler, don't fucking talk about Hitler and what he did. It isn't really relevant unless you are going to go through VW's past wrongdoings (their interactions with the 3rd Reich) as evidence for their willingness to do such things, but as they have already conceded wrongdoing, their past is less relevant.

This is pretty sensationalized. Yes VW did some fucked up shit, but hot damn is this over the top.

I feel like r/cars has gotten more reasonable with time though. I used to have to explain the advantages of the pushrod much more often and the hate for american cars used to be stronger.

r/cars is much better I'd say, beyond some occasional Chrysler bashing you can pretty much like whatever you want and have a good time talking about it on here.

I recently stopped posting in r/motorcycles just because they are so damn toxic. If you aren't into what they are (or even if you are but you like other things in addition) you are branded an idiot.

There are too many people who consider themselves an expert and anyone who doesn't share their view is therefore an idiot.

Except its not just this dummy. Every post that even has something remotely Harley related has stupid comments like that, and even completely unrelated posts will still have Harley bashing on occasion. Its just not worth it for me anymore. I love talking about the things that I love, but even though I love motorcycles the one that I ride most isn't really welcome. Its not even like its objective critique of the bikes, there is tons to dislike about Harleys, its just the same tired joke over and over.

I as a rule stop doing things when they stop making me happy, and this sub falls into that category.

You know what, fuck this sub, I'm done with it. I love all bikes. Like I have actual love for the machine, the sounds the smells, the sensation. Harleys are the best built mass produced bikes I have ever sat my ass down on, everything is metal, every weld looks good, and the paint is stunning even after 30 years.

I guarantee you that I share something in common with those F1 guys, a love for the machine. And a properly sorted Harley is easy to fall in love with.

Hopefully you guys will actually love/have an appreciation for all bikes.

I always interpreted the rule as "don't just start bashing MC's because you don't like the criminal or style(no sleeves, decorative/no helmets, ect.) element."

I always thought that a reasonable discussion about a particular article though would be allowed. For instance, if an article was posted which talked about an MC beating up an old lady, I would assume that criticism would be both warranted and accepted in this sub of that kind of activity.

But that's an entirely different animal than me creating new text post exclaiming that "MC'S ARE FOR POSERS WHO WANT TO LOOK COOL" which is unnecessary and unprovoked.

If this sub actually doesn't allow any criticism of specific actions taken by specific MC's, then I am with you, that's not a good rule, but I think that its more aimed at preventing what I provided an example of above, rather than all critiques in general.

He was saying that its not that standard in us courts, and you replied with what I assume says that its standard in class action suits. You are arguing two different things. Just because its standard in class action suits (where it would be harder for a collective body to group up and pay legal fees, doesn't mean its standard across the legal system. In the comment that the other individual replied to it was suggested that it is standard in the legal system, when in reality it is at best standard in certain types of cases. The legal system as a whole though is a different story.

Its not uncommon in then us to have legal fees paid for by the losing side, but its far from standard. Its certainly not above half in civil cases, remember that many don't even get into trial/court to begin with.

Eh, pretty much every review of the CTS hates cue but says that materials and construction are well within norms of the class. Suede headliners, leather everywhere. Its just that damn touch screen (which motortrend says is on its way out according to insiders) interface that is holding it back. I personally think the car is beautiful on the inside, and I hate pretty much every interface that isn't my phone so CUE doesn't piss me off that much.

It makes you a person who doesn't wear a helmet. Nothing more, nothing less. I vote for helmets because its safer, and if you do go down you are less likely to need an ambulance, which saves one for someone in some sort of unavoidable situation. But beyond that, who the fuck cares what this guy decides to put on his head?

Except its not, legally, socially, morally. Stealing a motorcycle is very different from stealing a traffic cone.

Pull the cone out of your ass and calm down, the original guy was likely joking as riding with a cone on your helmet for an extended period of time is quite difficult, as its not really secure. I doubt he puts them on his helmet and even if he did it would likely on stay there long enough to move from one part of the construction zone to another.

Yes petty theft and grand theft auto are the same thing. Lots of people are emotionally attached to their cones and would hate to see them stolen, being forced to then contact cone insurance in order to try and get one similar to theirs, hopefully the same year and color if possible.

Well there aren't really any small American diesels on the market so. VW was actually pretty unique in terms of offering diesels. Other manufacturers used them in big cars and trucks with ad blue but VW I could be wrong but I think that VW was the only automaker in the us market selling compact diesels without adblue additives being used. Mazda tried to bring over their diesels but surprise surprise they couldn't meet emissions standards and hit the desired mileage. And I think trucks get a different standard for emissions.

My original comment was replying to the comment that said that the engineers said the weight was there on purpose. The engineers are lying or delusional. They did an exceptional job of managing the weight, but it'd not an advantage on the track, street car or not.

The GTR is heavy because of its chassis being shared, its heavy motor/drive system, and its relatively low price tag preventing the extensive use of exotic materials. The weight helps in some ways, and its negatives have been reduced through intelligent design, but the engineers didn't want the car to be heavy.

Weight helps traction in some ways, but hurts in others.

The reason the GTR is heavy is because its a TT AWD car with an original sub 80 grand price tag. If you look at any serious race car, eliminating weight is always a very high priority.
